Outlands (BC)- In Shattrath City is there any advantage to allying with the Aldors vs the Scryers? For your reference: http://wowvault.ign.com/View.php?view=Guides.Detail&id=171

Thanks!

Gaining rep with either Aldor or Scryers takes time and money, and the things you get will be pretty outdated once you enter Northrend.
IMO u should rather save the cash and don't spend any money on gaining rep with those faction and just venture into Northrend as soon as you get lvl 68.

Those factions was sorta an endgame faction to gain rep with and most peple wasn't revered/exhalted untill months playing at lvl 70.

Hope this clears things up a bit.

Bottom line I don't need to worry about it. :) What was the purpose of gaining revered/exhalted with these factions? Did it give you access to specific instances?

Thanks!

The only reason to gain rep with them at this point is to get access to some profession recipes they offer. They both offer several recipes.

Not instances, but two tiers of shoulder "enchants" and some patterns and items that depending on your class are preferred.

I think the same exact shoulder buffs are available in Northrend though. I'm not bothering to grind any rep in BC with my DK, that's for sure. The only reason I'll spend any time there at all is for leveling my mining and use the ore to level my BS and JC skills. (at least you can freely farm in BC now!)

It was actually shoulder enchants + a few crafting recipes, which all are really outdated by the time you get 80. Now you get better shoulder enchants from another faction in Storms Peak (lvl 77+ zone) and it requires only a week with dailies (quest you can repeat every day) to get, or even less if you are human. These dailes take less than an hour and give you better enchants.

Getting to exhalted with aldor/scryers was months of grinding...

And then what? Any good rumors out there as you figure Wow is such a cash cow, they would be working on a follow on of some kind?

Oh, I'm sure Blizzard has something to take its place but the Warcraft setting is part of what makes WoW so compelling and fun and interesting. That's why I think it will be difficult for them to move away from WoW - they could just keep adding on expansions, as they already get more than their needed profit from subs.

As far as rumors, I haven't heard anything, not even about another WoW expansion.

edit: on another note, I started my druid on December 16 and off and on have a /played time of ~3 days. I'm at level 31 now and am really enjoying the game (my last toon was a priest to 17 back in '04). The only thing that bugs me is being new and trying to pick up on "WoWspeak". Literally it gives me a damn headache trying to read a lot of the stuff on the WoW forums. I have a feeling a lot of it is aimed at PvP (which I have yet to try) but if I read a thread about strategies for a feral druid, I give up about a paragraph in.

Speaking of a DK mining, at what level do professions start with those 150-200? I assume you are not starting from scratch.

Bill....:apple:

Thanks Bill. Wowwiki is a great source for WoW.

You may laugh but as a 69 I went into Steamvault with a group of 67-70s and we got our butts kicked by the first boss.

Hydromancer Thespia
Thespia is a naga with two water elemental bodyguards. She herself can cast a lightning cloud that does substantial nature damage to anyone under it and has an 'enveloping winds' spell that stuns the target for five seconds.

We tried 7 or 8 times and "almost" killed her. ;) Granted she is a 72 elite but those lightning bolts were killers. Me and the other healer tried to stay out of range, but somehow I got zapped repeatedly moving close enough to heal. We had two people healing and could not stay alive long enough keep our tank going. I need to read up on the best technique to beat this boss. I assume the lightning zone follows her around versus staying at her starting point.

I've noticed something peculiar, I've still got several zones to go in TBC and I'm already on the verge of 70. After finishing Zangar Marsh and not knowing much about Outland zones, I decided to head North into Blade's Edge Mountains. Now most (all?) of the quests in Terokkar are green! It would be easy to bail on TBC and move up Northrend, but I enjoy the quests so I'm hesitant to bail before seeing Nagrand and Shadowmoon.

I've heard a lot of references to "dailes" in the guild. Looking forward to doing them. Maybe Blizzard has gotten the message that months of grinding to achieve status in not enjoyed by most players? "They nerfed WoW!!" :D

The experience tables have been adjusted to make the 60-70 range much faster. You're right on track. :)

Unfortunately, that tends to obsolete much of the Outlands if you want to be perfectly efficient in your leveling or get to the end-game raiding as fast as possible. If those are your goals, bail for Northrend. If you are willing to spend a bit more time in Outland, there are some fun quests in Nagrand, SMV, and Netherstorm. Just skip Hemet Nesingwary's quests in Nagrand; unless you're a skinner they're way too grindy to be worthwhile.

The Aldor/Scryer rep grind is now pretty pointless; they only give access to some gear (obsoleted by Northrend gear), shoulder enchants (obsoleted by the Sons of Hodir enchants in Northrend), and they bump up some of the gear gained on the Isle of Quel'Danas (a rep grind that is now pointless as the gear is obsoleted by Northrend gear).

Oh, I think they do give tabards, if you collect those. :)

It's worth a trip to Northrend when you hit 70 just to upgrade your tradeskills, even if you don't want to leave Outlands just yet. You can level your Mining and Herbalism well past the 375 level on Outland resources.

The dailies do turn into a bit of a grind after you've done them multiple times, but Blizzard really has taken the ball and run with it regarding those daily repeatable quests. I've been too busy with other things (IRL ) to really sit down and find out where all the daily quests are in Northrend, but I bet there's more than the 25 max that you can do in a day.

Plus, they gain a lot more variety in Northrend, as they often have you riding "vehicles" with their own special spells and abilities that help you complete the quest. I don't want to spoil anything for you, but a lot of them are so far removed from the usual "X amount of Y slain" quests that were found in Burning Crusade, that I have to convince myself I'm still playing WoW. :D

You get first aid started at 275 so you just have to make heavy runecloth bandages, but primary professions start at 0. Sorry, but if you want mining, skinning, or herbing you get to run around the starter areas for a while looking for copper, peacebloom or wolves until you level up.

It would drive me nuts to see a node that I couldn't mine while leveling my DK, so I held off leveling until I got my mining up to 300. I was able to get my blacksmithing up to just over 300 in the process, so now I can start on the fel iron stuff while leveling in Zangar and Terrokar.

Yes, leveling mining through the thorium level really does suck as badly as you imagined it would.

I did the same thing with my DK. I lvled his herbs (to go with inscription) from 1-300 b4 I did serious lvling in outlands. It worked out well and didn't take too long to get there.

Sounds like excellent advice as I just hit 375 Mining yesterday. :)

The cooking and fishing dailies are great for leveling your cooking and fishing skills.

I've been completely neglegent on my cooking skills although I do have a fishing up towards 270. This was for a hunter's pet I no longer have to feed if I don't want to. ;)

Should I get serious about cooking? I don't know if I could even go back and get it leveled up easily.

I'm trying to level my Pally up to 300 Armorsmith and it sucks big time. 12 Thorium among other things just to make 1 item (or 8 if you want to turn out endless thorium bracers)! You can spend hours and hours harvesting thorium. I've been doing it mostly in Slithius.

That is for inscription I assume? Is there a trainer for that (where?) or do you get it automatically as a DK?

I always thought the crater was the best place for thorium. I hope you are using the gatherer addon.

Once you hit 300 BS, it's very easy to level till you get near 375. Most of the 300 - 375 BS recipes in tBC are bought from the different faction quartermasters.

After grinding my way to the 270s or so in Blacksmithing I finally threw in the towel and switched to herbalism. Grinding blacksmithing is so expensive and time consuming it was like each time I got a new recipe and saw the requirements a little bit of my soul was crushed.

So I dumped it and spent two days levelling up herbalism instead. It was actually fun to have my Lvl 80 healadin wandering around the Lvl 20 zones. You see some guy getting his butt kicked after too big a pull? Walk over, kill every damn creature in the area with a few swings, tip your hat and walk away. It's like being John Wayne!

In WotLK, I can cook buff food that will give great stats for 1 hour (or less if you die :) ).

Cooking is a very easy skill to level (The AH is your friend and having a fishing skill makes it even easier). I highly recommend leveling your cooking on at least one character.

You get some decent buffs from the food, but to be honest I've never felt the draw and at lvl 80 my cooking skill is just high enough to make the gingerbread cookies for Santa. What's that, 5 points in Cooking? maybe I have 10 because you get some when you make the cookies?

It's never been an issue.
