I installed Quest Helper and did not like the window as I'm having clutter issues with my WoW screen. I should have waited to see if it went away during combat, but I did not. Maybe I'll try it again and verify. Thanks for the info.

Ah...I found an old screenie...

This is what your UI used to look like in the beginning...

This what your UI should look like now...

Hmmm...Questhelper doesn't add any clutter to my screen. At least no more than the standard UI. It mainly comes into play with keeping track of quest items and objectives as well as showing you on your map where all the quests are.

Oh, for Pete's sake, as my Dad likes to say.

WoW isn't going to cost you your life.

I am a professional, a husband and a dad, not necessarily in that order. I am a partner in the firm I work at and have a good career. I'm a regular at my youngest daughter's basketball games and I've never missed my older daughter's dance recitals.

And I play WoW.

Do I play as much as other people on my server? No.
Do I progress like the raid junkies? No.
Do I have time to commit to regular raids? No.

But, do I have fun playing the game? Yes.

I log on once or twice a week on weekday evenings for an hour or two after my youngest is in bed, but I'm always off by 10:30 or so. On the weekends, I pretty regularly play from 7:00 am to 10:00 am on Saturdays before everyone starts to get up (I've never been able to sleep in) and I play for a couple hours Sundays when the kids are doing their homework.

In exchange, I watch very little TV (sorry South Park and Sunday football, but I gotta go with my priorities).

And that's it. No other changes required and I have a Lvl 73 Healadin on Sentinels (recently respecced from Ret to make it easier to get PUGs for the new instances). If you watch two hours of TV a day, you spend more time in front of the tube than I do playing WoW.

So don't get all dramatic about WoW unless you're going to get equally dramatic about other leisure activities people waste a lot of time at (I'm looking at you, ESPN).

The World's Going To End, Run For Your Lives

After re-reading a lot of the previous entries, I believe this thread has reached it burn-out point. Time to move on....

Bill....:apple:

What resolution do you run WoW at? If you're having clutter issues, you can, depending on your eyesight, use the 'UI Scale' slider in the Video or Interface options. Make it on the smaller end so you can fit more stuff on screen without blocking the view.

Look up TitanPanel for a neat bar that keeps all important info at the top of your screen neatly. Cartographer3 is a very nice map addon too.

Is there anyone on Caelestraz here?

Thanks for the suggestion. I do have TitanPanel. I assume for other mods they must be TitanPanel compatible to coordinate displays?

:) Please tell us about your WoW tragedy. :D

On a serious note, I realize there are some seriously addicted/compulsive WoW players out there. One of my wife's closest friends with husband and kids fits everything around here WoW playing. It does not help she is an officer in one of the largest if not largest Horde guilds in existance (2000+) players. She's tied up most nights from about 7pm till the wee hours of the morning...

Huntn,

Did you every try the free version of Carbonite from curse.com and was it what you were looking for ?

I'm DLing it now.

I installed Quest Helper and it did not seem all the helpful, but it could have been operator ignorance/error. It showed me a list of current quests, but when I click on them, nothing in particular happened. No window, no map, no info. I need to read over the documentation again.

Just looked through the documentation and can't find a readme. Anyone using Quest Helper can tell me how to interact with it for questing? Thanks. :)

I'll give Carbonite a go and see how it is. Is there a way to hide or show the Carbonite window? I see there is a lite and a paid version of carbonite. Is there a compelling reason to pay a monthly subscription for it?

Thanks! :)

I would see if you like the free version before considering the payed version.

You essentially have three windows that can be moved / resized.

1) Quest list showing up to 6 quest and the sort priority is defaulted to the distance you are from the quest (the closer quest are near the top). If you mouse over the quest list, you can get a quick summary of the quest.

2) A rectangular mini-map that replaces the Blizzard shift-M mini-map. When you click on the circular button next to a quest in the quest list, an arrow and other info appears on the map. The map also indicates your coordinates, current speed, and time to destination at the current speed.

3) A small direction arrow window (like a compass needle) that points to where you should go.

The main fullscreen Blizzard map is replaced by a fullscreen carbonite map. The Carbonite map shows the location of all questgivers by putting a small scroll on the map indicating the location of all the questgivers in a zone. If you mouseover a scroll, you can see the complete chain of quest that the questgiver has. Carbonite also shows you the complete map of a zone even if you haven't been there. Unexplored areas are shaded showing where you have not been. Carbonite shares quest / map info between people running Carbonite (you can turn off the sharing if you want) and can display the info on the map making it easier to find people to quest with.

To configure it, I usually

1) Shift-M to hide the blizzard rectangular mini-map and then I move the carbonite mini map down to the lower right on the screen.
2) Move the quest list to the right side of the screen next to the Blizzard action bars and above the Carbonite mini-map.
3) Move the small direction arrow to the top center of my screen.
4) I right click the upper bar part of each of the three windows and check hide during combat.

Plutonius, thank you. Now I just figured out Quest Helper and it's pretty good. All the info is on the map. I'll try Carbonite soon and make a comparison.

Ok Carbonite vs Quest Helper- I like both. I like that Quest Helper uses WoW's map to show stuff. I like that Carbonite has the ability to toggle maps on and off (because I definitely don't want a minimap showing all of the time) but it's seems a bit more processor intensive, however I've seen nothing to suggest it adversely effects game performance. I'm probably going to stick with Quest Helper, but it's just a personal choice that does not mean I think it's better than Carbonite.

I hate to say this but in the Outlands, Hellfire Penninsula I've been stomped to death more times than I care to admit by that big roving golumn. Normally you are out fighting some critter and if you are unlucky he approaches without you noticing or making a roar until he is on you. If you let him get too close, you can run, but you're done! :)

I just made it over to Zangar Marsh. Having fun with the quests. It's really refreshing to get off Hellfire Penn. WoW have become very solo friendly. Don't mind that I'm only one expansion behind. :)

Are you only running your paladin in tBC ? Wait till you get to Nagrand. I think you will like it.

Insane is not in the title of this thread for nothing. ;) I'm currently leveling 4 characters and eventually may make it 5 if I get Death Knight capabilities. I really do like the change of pace of playing diff classes.

Both my Paladin and Hunter are roaming the Outlands. I've also got a Warlock and Priest about L40 (both) working in the classic areas. Looking forward to the new areas. I figure I'll be up to speed before the next expansion. 8)

What is the deal with First Aid? I have a L46 Warlock who had First Aid about 201. The best bandage I can make is a silk bandage. Trainers offer nothing. I was fortunate to discover through the help of my guild, that there is a Mageweave Bandage book that for Alliance can be purchased from Deneb Walker in Stromguard (Arathi Highlands) and to use it you are required to be at 210 First Aid.

Ok here is the rub, I did a Scarlet Monestary run and got all of the silk so I have about 120 silk. To get from 201 to 209 making a silk bandage still is labeled as green, but I've used all 120 silk and can't get the darn ticker to show 210. To get from 209 to 210 I've used probably 40 silk. What's the deal? Could there be something I'm missing? :(

Check the AH for the book and cloth. Just buy it if you can't find it and can't wait.
