I am thinking of giving wow another shot. Anyone have any friend invites to give that will give me some free trial time. I would just like to try it again for a few days before I "commit". I have a few low level characters on some servers if memory serves (it has been a couple of years). Thanks for any help.

If you go to worldofwarcraft.com (Blizzard site) you can get a free trial account. With all the changes and the very fast leveling now, I would not worry about your low level characters.

Damn this thread is still going?

Warcraft is awesome. Can't wait till the live action movie comes out.

They should make a Warcraft IV too. This time with multi-touch control.

i got over WoW late last year, tried Warhammer online under boot camp, waste of money, played it 2 or 3 times, just couldnt get into it... will check out that game that was linked and report back, any questions on WAR, ask ;)

LOTRO looks like the expansion got good reviews. Maybe that made the game better. Last time I tried it it was like as WoW knockoff but with less features. and choppy syncing. It's actually DX10.

Thanks. I managed to figure this out. :)

Any Wow Armorsmith's reading?

At about skill level 271 I made some Earthforged Leggings and to my horror this blue item is BOP (bind on pickup) so as soon as it's made, it's soul bound.

What the heck does this do to a profitable profession? If you can't sell your goods, it's a lot of work just to equip yourself. However at the higher levels you can make yourself things like the Breast Plate of Kings. Are there any examples of high level armor that you can sell for profit?

Is this how all professions are- once you start churning out blue stuff of higher it's no longer sale-able? If you're looking to make gold, it appears like you'd be better off just selling the mats.

I'm leveling blacksmithing and mining on the DK now. I got hit with a couple BoP 5 level phases myself, but at least I'm up through fel iron and getting into Adamantite items now. (level 330+)

Now that the new expansion is out, everything that applied to BS before is obsolete. You're going to find that the only old items that are worth anything are the enchanters rods and then items that disenchant into valuable mats (like illusion dust).

The things that you'll be looking forward to making once you level are the titansteel stuff and eternium belt buckles. Otherwise you'll be enjoying the extra sockets you can put on your own equipment. I also get the toughness enhancement from my mining level. (I'm at 390 now)

My prior mains are suffering a bit for lack of attention, but honestly I really like my DK better than my shadow priest and my rogue. I think I was meant to be a plate wearer.

A thread on blacksmithing that might be worth looking at:

Actually I've quite successful selling things like Thorium Boots at the auction house. Now I'm not making a ton of money, around 2-5 gold per sale which does add up. Still working my way up, currently about 300 as an armorsmith. It's a way to make some money.

It was actually shoulder enchants + a few crafting recipes, which all are really outdated by the time you get 80. Now you get better shoulder enchants from another faction in Storms Peak (lvl 77+ zone) and it requires only a week with dailies (quest you can repeat every day) to get, or even less if you are human. These dailes take less than an hour and give you better enchants.

Getting to exhalted with aldor/scryers was months of grinding...

Incorrect.

The Sons of Hodir enchant at Honored (a 8 day grind from friendly if you're not human, 1 day if you're human) is identical in quality to the Aldor/Scryer enchants at Exalted. To get the Exalted enchants for Sons of Hodir, it's a much longer grind.

Although, with the recent change in 3.0.8 to allow the turn-in of Relics of Ulduar, the rep grind is much quicker if you're willing to put in more total hours. Not gonna tell you where to farm them effectively though. :D :p

WoW is the only game my girlfriend and I play together.

Is she an internet girlfriend? Sorry, I couldn't resist. :D

I seriously don't understand this game. An old friend of mine was apparently addicted for a year or two back in high school. Thankfully he grew up and now he's a cop. Perhaps it's me, but I just can't get into the whole fantasy thing.

Do not feed the troll.

It's you. :D Seriously fantasy/magic/LotR type stuff either appeals to you or it doesn't. I read Lord of the Rings in Junior High and two times since. And I've read the entire Harry Potter series. I guess the genre appeals to me. :)

I read LOTR in HS and 5 times total, read HP most of them twice, got hooked on WoW for over two years.

But I still prefer reality to spending every spare moment in a computer game. Very happy I quit, though like any addiction it still strikes every now and then. Thank goodness it's a pain in the ass to install the 50 disks or I'd probably lapse.

All the people that I know that play this idiotic game, have no lives and are the future examples of the 40+ year old virgins.
Have fun.

It's pretty narrowminded to come to that conclusion about a game that 11 mill people are playing.

I think were people get into trouble is when they make raiding commitments or feel the need to spend all of their time raiding. One thing since I've restarted, I have been mostly solo and I have no interest in raiding. I do love 5 party instances and most likely will do some 10 party raids. However I feel no pressure to keep up which is a good thing. And although I'm in a guild that raids, I've made no commitments, not that they would even want me as my highest level toon is 71 and my lowest is about 20 and I'm leveling 6 different toons, a little here and a little there.

I agree. The vast majority of people playing this game are using it as a leisure activity and a highly social one at that.

Any Ret Pallys reading this? I have a L71 Ret Pally. I've always tried to get gear with "int" but was recently told as a Ret Pally I don't need to worry about "int" and I should instead focus on strength and agility. Would you agree with that? I was thinking "int" becuase in a pinch I can heal, but I realize I'm no substitute for a dedicated healer...

Have you gone to www.worldofwarcraft.com ? The class forums have a lot of complaining but there are some pretty good threads for each class. You can also google elitist jerks and go to their website. They go into a very math detailed analysis of each class (spell rotations, talents, gear, item enchants, gems, etc.). It takes awhile to read and understand it but nothing is better for maxing out your character.

Edit: Note - You would be amazed at the number of players not playing their characters to even 1/2 their potential (even after playing for years). There is really no way of knowing this unless you talk with other players and read the sites like the class forums and elitist jerks.

The classes forums are effectively useless, people asking the same ridiculous questions over and over again. EJ are much better but many of the threads are full of mindless discussion and it can be hard to filter out the useful information from the verbose monologues that pervade those forums.

Agree with Sauron here. Stay away from the crying and continuous repeat posts on the same topic and stick with EJ. Also if can do a search on "Ret Pally's" there are a few specialized sites around. Also for Tanking there is "Maintankadin" - http://maintankadin.failsafedesign.com/ .

Bill...:apple:

I respecced my pally to holy when I hit 80, but I levelled as a ret.

The advice you're getting is correct. You want strength and agility and anything that gives you +crit (i.e. for rings and trinkets, if you have to make a choice, take +crit over +haste or +AP). As a ret pally you really want to be maximizing your chance of critting because that is where you get the truly amazing damage output. You also want to use slow 2H weapons, not a sword and shield. Crits are multiples of the maximum damage your weapon can do, not a multiple of your DPS, so the bigger that top number the bigger your crits. Also, a slow 2H favours Crusader Strike and Seal of Command, which crit a certain number of times per minute - meaning that those slower swings are each more likely to have a crit on them, so your DPS goes up over using a slower weapon where the crits are spread out over a bunch of smaller damage hits. Unless you're a blood elf - i think seal of blood is based on a % chance of crit per swing so then you want more swings (I think - my toon is a Draenei, so I've never needed to look that up).

Gear like that and soon you'll be one-shotting your way through the clothies in Alterac Valley.

(It's probably worth spending some time on the forums over at elitist jerks. They go waaayyyyy to deep into theorycrafting, but read a few of the posts and you'll get an idea of how to gear your specc.)
