"It sucked the life out of me!"

Amen to that.

tanking is infinitely more difficult than dps, or healing.

ROFLWAFFLE™, don't flatter yourself. Tanking/DPS/Healing aren't difficult tasks, it's the SITUATIONS that are difficult. I did all three in my guild, and on three tree Freya when I was DK DPS'ing and maintaining control of all the melee DPS, that was far and away more difficult then Warrior tanking that fight, they don't even come close. Tanking– especially main-tanking is infinitely less difficult (for the most part) then many other jobs in game. (for progression raiding of course).

^ That. The truth is, the game is pretty well balanced.

People just like to rag on other classes, and over-estimate the importance of their own class.

Sure, some of them are OP for a few patches, but it all evens out over time.

I couldn't agree more! I don't know which is more prevalent, arrogance or ignorance. Regardless, there seems to be a huge lack of humility and too much pride among many players. A big thing for me was to find a friendly, laid back, mature lvling guild to avoid people like that. There are many serious lvling and raiding guilds that are very hard core, do not tolerate mistakes, have a lot of drama and only want players who know the game inside and out. That's great but that's not me.

When I started I had no idea what I was doing. Even now I feel like I know just barely enough. I started with a human warrior and it sounds like they don't lvl the greatest but oh well. I am having fun and plan to buy dual spec when I get 50 talent points. Will probably do Protection and Arms or Fury. Sounds like Protection is not the most glamorous, especially if you are into dps, but will be sought out for tanking. My guild allows two alts so I think I may choose two of either rogue, pally or hunter, not sure yet. Maybe even try to go for the sky with as much dps as I can get, just to try it!

The biggest thing for me is I want to have fun playing the game, not get too serious and so I tend to associate with like minded players. For example, some of my higher lvl guildies may be doing a heroic raid one night and the next day helping a lower guildie run the Deadmines and have fun doing it. I'm only at 55 but when I get a little tired of lvling I have fun going through the old stuff with new guildies or guildies lvling an alt.

Birds of a feather flock together.
;)

Actually overall, that sounds quite awful. ;)

I second that and remember it's just a game. Every so often you run into ******s with little tolerance for error. As I have been known to make errors, I do my best to avoid them.

DON'T DO IT. Your free time will thank you later.

For me WoW has replaced my past-time if cinema; big and small screen. I haven't lost any more time than what I spent watching movies but I have to say I do think of the amount of time I spend on WoW.

I suppose that's my way of rationalizing it.
;)

WoW is kind of nice in that once you're done leveling your toons, you can leave them sitting potentially forever.

I'll log on once in a while to check on my Auction House sales, which pretty much satisfies my real world eBay addiction, and log on a couple days a week specifically to raid with friends.

You might not believe this, but last week after running the daily Heroic dungeons (daily) for about a month, I hit a wall! Waiting to see if my interest comes back.

I've noticed I'm so damn comfortable with this game, environment, and mechanics, every other MMO I've tried has just not satisfied me. What's with that? Lack of innovation, or just good ole brain washing? :)

That usually indicates that you need to play less (take a break) or try something new in the game (i.e. PvP - start with some battlegrounds)). I suggested to you awhile back that you should try Wintergrasp. Have you given Wintergrasp a try yet ?

Hi, what kind of Mac can my 12 year old son play WoW on without any lag?! Help!

Hi!

I'd like to buy a refurbished model. We just have an hp laptop right now, was thinking about getting him a desktop PC, but would rather invest in a Mac. Can someone recommend to me which specifications the Mac should have so that my son does not experience any lag whatsoever. Is an iMac what we need? How many GB, which graphic card, etc, etc.? He'll be wanting to play the new Wow when it comes out, too.
His Birthday is on November 16th, so I need to decide soon, get it ordered, and set up in time... Thanks for all your much needed help and advice!!! : )

I'm not sure if you can ever get NO lag whatsoever, and performance is highly variable depending on the game's video setting and what you're doing in-game. You'll need at least 4GB of RAM to avoid disk lag as much as possible.

I'd avoid the Mini for its slower hard disk and look at an iMac and up.

As to video cards, the 9400 is acceptable with some settings turned down. It may not work for someone finicky about performance. Alternatively, you could get an iMac with a better NVidia card or ATI 4850.

Of course, you can go absolutely crazy with a Mac Pro and a high-end card. That's probably overkill, but nothing exceeds like excess.

All of this is from reading various threads here; my Mac Pro + 13 GB RAM + 3870 runs WoW just fine, only lagging occasionally in Dalaran. No doubt the regulars can give more finely calibrated opinions. :)

As to a refurbished model, it may be more difficult to get anything but the low-end graphics. A cursory search yielded not much availability for anything but the 9400.

I have not but have been considering it. The problem is that long time ago, BGs did not really appeal to me as a long term activity. Maybe Wintergrasp is better. I'll talk to my guild about it too. Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm interested in starting WoW but have never played the game before. Can anyone point me in the direction of some decent sites, guides about what the game is about and how to play?

Thanks

You could start right here at MacRumors and look over the World of Warcraft guide. Check out the Blizzard Wow links section which include the basics. Also there are tons of links online. I think a good starting place is to figure out what side (Alliance or Horde) and class you want to play. Take a look at this Blizzard Class Basics link. From there you can scroll down the MacRumors WoW guide and many of the class sections include links to class guides. Or just google a class, example search on: "wow priest guide".

If you've never played before, WoW does a most excellent job of easing you into quests, questing, game mechanics. Primarily I've played Alliance because I prefer attractive toons, and until Blood Elves showed up on the Horde side, they were all about ugly!! :p Personally I love Night Elves and my most favorite toon is a female Night Elf (they are hot) however, they start in Teldrassil, a remote area on an island off the coast of Kilmdore (actually a giant tree growing out of the ocean), with not as many players. However, if you like the magical woods, then moving to the North woods of Darkshore, then down to Ashenvale, Teldrassil is your spot to start! That area feels very magical, just what fantasy RPGs are all about. And if you decide Darkshore is too remote for you or there are not enough players in those areas, you can take a boat directly to Stormwind City from Darkshore, the capitol of the Alliance and continue in the starter zone outside of StormWind called Elywnn Forest. The other prime Alliance starter locations are human, just outside of StormWind (a temperate environment) Elves and Gnomes, up around Ironforge (a Winter environment). That is my 4 cents. :)

Guys I'm officially taking a break from WoW. First time I played for 18 months, then took a 2 year break. This last time I played for 12 months. I love the world in WoW, the joint guild activities and the comradre, but running the end-game dungeons over and over finally hit my tipping point. That has always been the problem with me and a game like this, the end-game environment. I appreciate the suggestions to try different activities, but mostly I like exploration and quests. Once it becomes a grind just for better gear, then I start to lose it. I don't know if I'll return or not.

But I'm happy to acknowledge I have no regrets. Wow is the best MMO I've ever had the pleasure of playing. :D The social factor is a powerful draw. During that previous 2 year break from WoW, I looked at several other MMOS, LOTRO, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, Everquest 2, and others, but none of them did it better than WoW. Blizzard has done a great job with phased environments, where you can actually change the world in an event, although ultimately that is temporary too.

Does that mean WoW is perfect? No! I've always wished for a world with more depth and a world that is dynamic instead of static. The world in WoW seems full of life, but once you get past the glitter, it is a world of limited dimensions. The only conversation you can get out of a quest giver is quest info. You can't chit chat about the weather or flirt with a NPC. ;) If you look at any zone, besides the outstanding environments (no one else has better environments), and impressive dungeons, you have mostly the same thing- resources on the ground to be harvested and mobs patrolling the landscape on tracks, which you engage to harvest an item, satisfy a quest related kill requirement, or just get by them. At some point the activities become too repetitive to bear, at least for me.

18 months seems to be my limit. I played one other MMO that long- Planetside, an outstanding PVP team based environment, but in the end how many times can you fight for the same facilities over and over? Boy I loved the Vanguard tank! Anyway, let the gaming continue. I'll be doing it in some shape or form, maybe it will be WoW again! :)

I've been on a break for about two months too, well I do log on once a week and do an instance with some real life friends and say hello to others :D

Earlier log on Wow was the first thing I did after i finished uni every day.

Thottbot.com, wowhead.com, wowwiki.com are all very good and informative sites.

I have leveled a number of horde characters and a few alliance and I found the leveling areas outside silvermoon, including ghostlands, to be the most entertaining while also providing great leveling gear. This is a Blood Elf area, but any Horde race/class can travel here to level.

For your first toon, to make it easy, you may want to pick up a few "gathering" professions rather than a "creating" profession, for example, skinning and herb. This will give you a steady income to buy whatever you need.

Blizzard has gone out of thier way to make leveling easier with each patch. You will level faster, get mounts earlier, and be able to skip entire areas if you want to. Its a good time to get into wow...years worth of stuff to do if you want to, just remember to temper your time...schedule yourself if you have to. Family first.

Sounds like a sensible approach. Maybe come back for Cataclysm, when everything has changed. I do miss the questing game; it's one reason I have a ton of alts and Cataclysm will restart that for a while at least. I almost wish they had a Classic WoW server with all the fixes but at the old, slower leveling rate so I don't feel like I'm hurtling to the endgame.

In any case, the reason we play these games is for fun. Follow the fun, in WoW or elsewhere is your call.

Regardless, the Infinite WoW Thread will be here for you. :)

I haven't played WoW in a loooong time. I started out playing alliance in vanilla, then switched to horde around BC and have played that ever since. I think when my new uMBP comes in I'll give it a go just to test the computer out if anything. Will probably go with my lvl 60 druid up, or my lvl 70 lock. Those are the only two high level characters I have on the alliance side.

Of course I still have some friends horde side on a different server, and I have a lvl 80 shaman there, so it is a tough pick, but I think I may wanna just do a fresh start with some classes I haven't played with in a looooong time. And druids are nice in that they are pretty awesome in pvp and very versatile. I love healing in groups, and feral dps is just fun.

Anyone know how druids rank in healing prowess now adays compared to pallys, shamans and priests?

Glad to say I'm 4 months clean and wowber (sober and wow, clever 'aint it?). I do however, still like to talk about the game that was once so much fun.

On healing classes:

For progression raiding a good Resto Druid simply cannot be beat in my mind– if only for mana regen alone. For main tank healing (again, in progression) priests are unmatched in their ability to suppress damage (that is, not enabling it to occur in the first place.) Shaman are absolutely invaluable raid healers and can provide very powerful raid utility. And I'm afraid Paladins come in a very far last, as most of the Paladins in my guild have since re-specc'd Prot or Ret.

Hi

Just chucked in WOW, I played for several years, just found it to be very dull.

Graphics are great, other than that every holiday event is the same year in and year out, every quest is the same - Go kill 5 pigs at low level - Go kill 200 pigs at high level, boring boring boring. Tis a shame because if the quest content had more substance and you could do all the skills it could be a very very very good game.

Seems it is a chatroom with graphics and some gamplay.......
