Hi

Just chucked in WOW, I played for several years, just found it to be very dull.

Graphics are great, other than that every holiday event is the same year in and year out, every quest is the same - Go kill 5 pigs at low level - Go kill 200 pigs at high level, boring boring boring. Tis a shame because if the quest content had more substance and you could do all the skills it could be a very very very good game.

Seems it is a chatroom with graphics and some gamplay.......

And if you don't want to do the same things over and over your other option is progression raiding–*which consumes your entire life.
WoW is grossly flawed and Blizzard doesn't give a sh*t.

Anyone know how druids rank in healing prowess now adays compared to pallys, shamans and priests?
Resto druids are excellent healers in all types of play, raiding, 5 mans and PvP. They're the best multi-target healers in the game and still whilst being good enough at single-target healing to be able to fulfil that role too. They particularly excel in movement-intensive fights, where their instant-cast spells can still be used. They're very mana-efficient too and with a suitable dual-spec can switch to tanking or DPS easily. Plus they can stealth & fly. What's not to like?

Can you tell my main is a druid? Best class in the game :)

There's no reason for raiding to consume your life. Just find one of the many guilds that are happy to do things slowly (e.g. once /week rather than 4x per week). Sure, you aren't going to get any server firsts that way, but who cares? By the time you've finished one set of raid content, the next one is released.

If your wanting a quicker and easier raiding path go for ten mans, its the same content and the heroic modes can be quite challenging and the likes of Totgc 10 man. There is 3 levels of progression there with tribute to skill, mad skill and insanity, at best will take 45minute out of your week and as your more comfortable with it work up the achievements for the extra loot and eventually the cape.

Two Years since the last post of this thread, I did an insane thing... I updated my Wow client, downloading 11GBs of data to the Cataclysm Launcher, but then could not bring my self to sign back up...

Hang in there SWTOR is on the way. I'll be curious to hear your review of it. :)

Regarding WoW, it took about 15 hours (download speed 15-250kbps), I was pleasantly surprised that it appeared to be a single consolidated download. I remember in the old days, 2 years of updates would have been like 9 separate updates. Actually there were 2 downloads, one that was about 80MB, and then the big one.

I sincerely hope that you don't sign back up. I played for a LONG time, took a 9 month break, started playing again, then re-quit several months ago. I'll never go back.

I can't moderate my play time, and I know that WoW had an extremely negative effect on my life. I know better than to get myself involved in that again.

Besides the absolute control it took over me, I still maintain that I've never ever met people outside of WoW that are as terrible as those within the game. WoW plays host to the most foul, toxic, MEAN people I've ever met.

I think that applies to a lot of other online communities as well. Unfortunately.

You are smart enough to recognize this characteristic in your personality. Some call it addiction, but I think technically it may be compulsion. I can play at a controlled level that does not adversely effect my life. I'm attracted to it, I love the environment, but just don't think I can go back to that particular game. I have been looking for other outlets, such as SWTOR, Rift, thinking about Guild Wars2, and/or Planetside 2. My update of the WoW client happened after I watched a friend run around the low level human zones harvesting herbs and I remembered the good times I had there. But in the end, I stopped myself. The wife did not even have to yell at me (not that she would). :p

Now as far as mean people in Wow, I tend to think you had bad luck. I played the game for 2.5 years total and most of my social interactions were positive ones.

I am hanging in there and I will post up my opinions for sure! I have waited this long I am not giving in now, I just hope it arrives this year!

WoW patcher i think was finally decent last time i played, you could even start playing whilst it was still downloading certain things. I remember they days of installing from the DVD for an hour then doing about 4 800mb patches that took forever to download, I spent a whole day installing it once when I got a new computer. TIME TO PLAY WOW i told myself and 24 hours later i managed to log in haha!

The more I think about topics like these, the more I reflect on it from a generalized perspective. I mean, it doesn't really have to be "video games" that make you "addicted". It could be any activity that you "enjoy way too much". It's really up to the individual to conjure up the will-power and sense of responsibility to not let it ruin their life.

The problem in today's culture is that ppl like to blame video games as a "bad influence", while the heart of the problem is not really the video game, but it's the person themselves. Since it's a stigma to play WoW, it's easy to just say "WoW ruined my life" as a excuse. But take for example, how many kids get bad grades because they are more into hanging with friends and even "dating" rather than doing homework. But to them and peers, it's not as bad as video games because they have a "social life". But in reality, this "social life" often amounts to nothing because college can separate friends forever anyway, and getting bad grades can force you to skip college, drop-out, go to a lower-end college...which also can have a profound influence in your life.

This holds true for any activity that takes you away from something more "productive". You might not feel it, but that WoW kid who has no RL friends but does all his homework and is headed for Harvard, has a better chance at a good life ahead than the socialite who hangs out to midnight every day. But the former is a "geek", and the latter is "cool". Think about that! ;)

You hit the nail on the head, my friend...

One vote more to rasmasyean, coming from an WoW ex-player, started from vanilla.

Besides any social-oriented analysis, though, I can give you more reasons for NOT starting WoW. You see, the game has become really dull and repetitive, and definitely is a greed-fest for some time now. And it will not change.

Even worst than that, it failed badly to offer some space for the casual gamers (yes, wow doesn't have to be an adiction, there are plenty of casual players, not addicted to it). So, the whole game, the community and the status quo of the players DEMAND from everyone to become hard-core. Sure, you can still play casually, but then it will be no fun or rewarding at all.

WoW is over for me definitely.

Great point!

I wonder if this is from the perspective of someone who has been with the game since the beginning vs someone starting fresh, although I have not played it for the last 24 months, I understand that the difficulty is scaled way down at the sub L60 levels, and that leveling has been accelerated. As someone who played during beta, I wonder how this would change my view of the game?

I think you could say depending on the individual, the game has been repetitive from the beginning. It boils down to how much tolerance one has for basically the same quest objectives over and over in new settings? My experience indicates this is a common feature with every major MMORPG I have been exposed to. The exceptions would be primarily PVP (player vs player) combat MMOs like Planetside, which is repetitive in it's own way, although combat encounters can be highly varied, and A Tale in the Desert, which is primarily a sandbox building MMO.

I have been toying with the idea of resubscribing just so I could run a character through the low level zones again. It's that compelling to me and that scary in a sense. Some of you will recognize these sentiments, but my fantasy is a huge WoW based sandbox environment with each zone expanded 10x or so. :D

Couldn't you just use there, free to play until level 20 thing?

You wouldnt get your old account but you would be able to play all the starter zones like you talk about?

Well, that is a possibility, but as I recall the free account has limits built into it. I'll look into that again. :)

Aye it does have some limits but it may be a good way to gauge if you are ready to jump back into it

In Huntn's case I would say "why bother" ? He spends plenty of money on games so spending $15.00 to re-activate one month of playing to do the starting quest to level 60 will not break the bank :D.

I also think that he should roll a horde toon since all his play time is with alliance.

I spent about half a day last week updating my WoW client and today figured out at Battle net, you can link a free account with your established account! Went back to Teldrassil and ran a round a little with a new character. Also ran around the LOTRO starting zone. WoW is better, Teldrassil is magic, although that does not mean I'm back... :)

Hah! :p I actually spent about 5% of my time playing horde- Undead, Blood Elf, Tauren. For some reason Alliance appeals to me much more. Ironically I've found in SWTOR, the Sith are appealing to me more than the goody -two shoes Jedi, lol. Seriously, showing no mercy can get habit forming. :)

Drat you Plutonius, you have me actually thinking about installing WoW again especially since I can get both expansions for $25 (limited time only)! :p

A general question for anyone- if you were going to play this game would it be under the MacOS or Windows? Traditionally I've always played it with Mac. However, I have been there, done that before and a lot of my special feelings about the game have to do with the early days and early levels. I'll ponder some more. :p:p
