Thanks! :D This (any 5 player dungeon) beats the heck out of 4 hour dungeon crawls.

I assume you have tanked Naxx. Would you put it near the top in difficulty? I have not tanked HOL or HOS but if I can handle HTOC, I should be able to handle them on heroic?

H ToC can vary from easy to hard since the first two boss fights are random.

Naxx is not necessarily harder but is more technical to tank. You should go along as DSP to learn the fights before tanking. Tankspot has some great reference videos for tanking Naxx. (Note - Naxx has 4 wings with spider (easiest), plague, military, and construct (hardest))

H HoL is much easier overall then H HoS. I like it though when the daily is H HoS since you can avoid most of the instance and just do the event and final boss. With a good group it should only take 20 - 25 minutes.

H ToC is equivalent to tanking Naxxramas if you ask me.

I hate tanking it. I prefer facerolling DPS.

I seriously hope you're not being serious. WoW IS Facerolling except perhaps *some* classes in PVP... Tanking is no more difficult then DPS, just as healing is no more difficult then tanking. So people who think they're beasts because they're tanking Ulduar HMs or H TOC... L2P, 4srs :p

My opinion is that tanking and healing are more difficult tasks, not from a technical standard, but from a proficiency/pressure standard that becomes apparant to your party if your group is wiping too often. Poor DPSing can contribute, but the focus is on these two critical roles (tank/healer), the same as the focus is on a pitcher in baseball.

Ulduar HM's are more about synergy/DPS IMO than anything else. Extremely high Raid DPS is the most important aspect of WoW for progression raiding, it appears to be sort of structured that way in a sense. Having played all three roles, maximizing (not high DPS, but actually MAXIMIZING IT) during intense situations is the most difficult thing to do; because of the nature of CD/Proc management and the like... but again, thats just my personal opinion.

Thanks for the perspective! Would you say when you were WoW active, you had a WoW fixation/addiction/obsession (pick any)? I know people who virtually live on it as if that has become their lives.

I never thought there would be another game where people obsessed over it as much as the first everquest, back when there was something like 2 mmos. but wow has pretty much done that with thier elite equipment raids.

I wanted to try wow but most of the people I know who played it have quit. So I dont really know anyone in game which makes it boring.

i keep trying to install warhammer online and keep getting a patch error. its on day 3 of my 10 day trial and I havent even logged in due to patch errors. giving it one last try then maybe I will jump to the wow crowd.

Lol. Congratulations on the understatement of the year. "obsession" or "addiction" don't even come close. Realm firsts are srsbns, I would consistently raid 5-6 hours a day, 6-7 days a week during progression. 10 hours days for stuff like Knock, Knock, Knock on Wood... yea, I'm glad to be rid of that horrible chapter in my life, I'm now back to reading novels and my occasional forum troll :p

My experience is that it is pretty easy to make friends on WoW. There are some who have suggested that the Horde is a more mature group and the Alliance is a bunch of 12 year olds. That's an exaggeration IMO. There are lots of mature peeps on the Alliance side.

When I restarted playing WoW, in Dec08, the classic areas seemed decently populated, enough to find someone working on the same level quests. One huge advantage of joining a guild is that hopefully you will have people available to help you on some of the hard quests. Just don't over do it with the help requests. General chat is another way to find people who may find your quest.

You're right, people say that of horde all the time, but in reality, it's been shown via Blizzard's own statistics, that Alliance players on the whole are older.

I don't know how old you are, but I suspect you can now vouch that anything in excess is bad. If your temperament does not allow participation in moderation, it's better to steer clear. If you feel like talking about it, what was the breaking point? I have a friend whose married with kids and spends an unhealthy amount of time immersed in WoW.

The breaking point for me was when one of my family members got really sick. I'm not tooting my own horn when I say this because well... it's not something I'm proud of, but I was consistently 7k DPS Pre 3.2 on fights WITHOUT bias (eg. KT HM etc). I was about top 3 DPS on my entire server, all these achievements and reality hit me–and I realized, I had NO achievements from WoW that really mattered. Luckily, pre-wow I spent a LOT of time with my friends and family so they granted me that period in my life when WoW became my life, so I didn't lose any relationships. I just got to thinking, if someone I loved died tomorrow, would the fact that I've 8 manned 25 man Obsidian Sanctum with a drake up mean ANYTHING? And the answer was indeed no. Its a process, and some people I know are still addicted, but oddly enough, a TON of my old WoW buddies have either quit or become extremely casual players (something I'm afraid I'm too competitive and serious to do, I'd boot lower then 3k DPS out of heroics :-O ) I think about WoW every so often and still talk to some guildies from time to time over AIM– but giving all my gold away and deleting my toon was one of the best decisions I ever made.

Do not take this as an assault on WoW. I ENVY the casual gamers who can spend reasonable amounts of time in-game and have fun while doing it, but for people like me... when WoW becomes more of a job then a hobby, or you spend more time playing WoW during the day then you do sleeping (guilty on several occasions :(:() it's time to stop. POWER to the casual players! You make the game fantastic!

Well firstly Wizard 101 appears to be Windows only. But as for WoW, just install and play.

Addicted WoW people should read this quote twice! For myself, I realized when I quit WoW the last time (June 2006) after 18 months of playing as a "hardcore-casual" player, that compared to living, nothing you accomplish in WoW really does matter. Not only that, but when WoW ends, so does your kick-ass toon. You know, the one you devoted an unmentionable amount of time developing to be the best, or in my case, just adequate... poof, gone!

For comparison, if you learn to play a guitar, you can play guitar!, and you can take that with you. When this game ceases to exist, you'll be able to say one thing, "I had one heck of a good time." or "It sucked the life out of me!" ;) That's it...

I love your avatar btw hunt!

Thanks! :)

What kind of a Mac do you have? If Wizard101 is a PC game, you will have to install Bootcamp/Windows to play, but only if it is an adequate Mac (MacBookPro, MacPro, possibly MacBook).

We started raiding 10 mans strictly as 1 1/2 months after ulduar was released. So we are all pretty geared in 10 man item level gear.

With the recent release we cleared all of the bosses in 10 man toc in about 2hrs. We tried the heroic 10 man but as of now we don't have the gear to step foot into that place. Our game plane is to give the hard mode a try in about 1month to 1 1/2 months again. heck what is the point of clearing something so quick. You'll get bored of the games.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that wow is for casual players now. The guys in our guild dps around 4k-3k depending on the fight of course. Even for fresh level 80s. You can gear yourself up with reg toc and HTOC (better than 10 man ulduar gear). The only thing you'll need from other dungeons or badges would be +hit gear.

good luck.

AppleIntelRock, I really respect how you actually took a step back from the game, looked at it, and asked yourself if it's really all worth it. Similarly, I did the same. When I started play in December of 2005, I got into it really quick. It went so far that it almost killed my 3 year relationship with my girlfriend (we're still together - almost 8 years now :D). Luckily, it didn't affect my school work at the time and I was still able to maintain good grades. I did the same as you, took a step back and asked if it was all worth it to be ingame for a majority of the day, and realized that it was time to take a break.

I've been on and off since then and right now, I'm still playing, but much more casual than before. Get on, do the fishing/cooking/PvP dailies, do my 4day cloth cooldowns when they're up, BG/Arena a bit with my brother and cousins, participate in WG if it's up, then I'm off. I really can't stand raiding anymore. Heroics are more tolerable, but I only prefer the quick ones (VH, AN, ToC). But yeah, that's pretty much all I do in-game now.

So who else is doing the daily Brewfest quest to get

http://db.mmo-champion.com/i/48663/tankard-o-terror/ ?

I did it the other night and got some kind of a tankard, but I think it was a trinket that calls some tankard wielding lady. :) How long does Brewfest quest go on? And, I kinda got dragged along and then I got booted from my server once so the question is: where do you go to repeat?

Initially I got the brewfest quest in Dalaran, then went to the fair outside of IF and turned it in. Then went to Karanos up on the hill across from the Inn and got the BRD quest. Then we went into the instance, I got booted from the server, something about clicking on a crate or one of those borrers, and we ended up in a room full of dwarves where we did the quest.

I'm currently doing the Brewfest holiday.

That tankard o' terror actually dropped yesterday, but I lost it. It's selling for about 1.5k on our server and there's about 10 of them up there already.

I'm still debating whether I wanna spend 200 tokens to join the Brew of the Month club now or do the Disturbing the Peace achievement and get the Brewfest clothing (total is about 350 tokens).

I plan to do Direbrew everyday until the end to get my chances at the kodo mount. The only achievement I need are the brew of the month one, the mount one, and the disturbing the peace one. So closeeee...

tanking is infinitely more difficult than dps, or healing.

I play a warrior (dual specced prot & arms), a shaman (dual specced resto & enhance), a death knight (dual specced Blood tank & frost dps), a druid (dual specced balance & resto), etc. You get the idea. I play ever role, and often times jump from instance to instance taking on whatever role is needed at the time.

Yea, the game is pretty easy - but dps is stupidly simple (whack a target until it's dead, repeat) and healing is playing whack a mole (stare at party health and respond accordingly, moving out of the green clouds as necessary), tanking you actually need to pay attention to all of the mobs and maintain your threat on them, as well as compensate for stupid team members who don't know (or care) that the target marked with a skull dies first and instead blow all of their CD's trying to kill the Square.

The level of difficulty tanking is probably highest with a warrior, then druid/DK are close, then Paladin is just ridiculously easy. YMMV.

Just got one for my shaman last night, need to get him a 2nd one :D

Right on dude! :D
