Apple does not need large cooling fans in their Mac. They are happy just to let it burn slowly at a 100 degrees.

I would bet good money Apple will beat those cpu performance however they have a long, long way to go before they can get close to an Nvidia 3090 on the graphic side.

Its success is going to rely on NATIVE software from the likes of Adobe, Microsoft and others. The iPad versions of these apps are not going to cut it. Emulated software is not going to cut it either. It will take native App support for this push to ARM to be successful.
FUD. Adobe and Microsoft have already announced their software is running natively on Apple Silicon and all current MacOS apps will work on it day one either through the Universal app program or Rosetta 2, which looks to be far more advanced than Rosetta was. Apple actually did an announcement at WWDC where all of this was clearly revealed. Though AS computers will be capable of running iOS apps via Mac Catalyst these computers will not be depending on that, it is simply a potential bonus.

Intel today announced the launch of its new 11th-generation Tiger Lake chips that are designed for use in laptops. The new chips included integrated Xe graphics, Thunderbolt 4, USB 4, PCIe Gen 4, and WiFi 6 support.
It’s whether Apple Silicon will support all these things at launch is what I am worried about. They have said they will continue to support TB, but they also released USB-C only MacBooks while the MBPs came with TB.
 
There's no confirmation they've dropped AMD for graphics at all. The dev units used integrated graphics simply because it's not important to compile apps. Nothing about the dev device should be considered for production - it's just an iPad chip running macOS so developers can compile and test basic functionality of apps.

My understanding is they have removed AMD drivers from the Apple Silicon builds of Big Sur... maybe my understanding is wrong. Sure would make life difficult for eGPUs on TB3/4 as well.

Not to mention, you have folks like Max over at MaxTech that non-stop talk about how great Apple's graphics are going to be and how they are pursuing games (while trying to terminate one of the biggest gaming engines, the irony) and that they won't allow anything that isn't on chip based on his reading of developer documentation and presentations.

I don't know that I believe him myself, he seems to be jumping to conclusions from very brief documents.. somehow he turned a couple slides and vague presentations into about an hours worth of video content.

But still, there is not going to be any competition between a current gen Nvidia chip and whatever Apple builds into upcoming A-series chips..... if they block eGPUs and don't have options for built in graphics, I don't care how good their CPUs are.

Glad you mentioned FUD. In forty years of Apple FUD has never, ever had one iota of negative influence on the company. FUD is the domain of anonymous fools.

No confirmation? The ketnore slides at WWDC stated that everything was going to be based on Apple Breat Implants.
 
I would reiterate that any CPU where all the cores are created equal is not a real apples to apples contender to Apple’s upcoming A14 family of processors, especially if we’re talking mobile PCs (laptops).

You need something with big performance cores and small efficiency cores, and an OS that fully leverage that.

Intel promise for 2021 in that regard is Alder Lake. By that time we’ll know everything about the AS Macbook and the AS Macbook Pro 14” probably. And they may sport (as per Bloomberg rumors) a 8 big cores + 4 small cores configuration.

Intel's road-maps are not secret - nor how badly Intel has consistently missed meeting those road-maps. The latter is likely why Apple is moving to their own CPU/GPU hardware, just as they moved to Intel when PowerPC consistently failed to meet their own road-maps.

To be fair, Apple does not use AMD CPUs. MR still is reporting on AMD GPUs (at least those used or expected to be used in Macs).

I expect Intel-related news will become less and less as Apple moves away from their products.

That is why i’ll buy an intel nuc or the new Asus Zenbook and i’ll buy an Arm Mac mini for just Mac Os and ..mm Logic , thats it. No need for Apple for gaming or 3d apps... .This transition will be a STRONG GIFT to Microsoft and Windows.

Apple still uses Intel processors in their Macs and will continue to for an announced 2 more years; I am somewhat confident we have not seen the last Mac refresh with Intel processors. That said, Apple does not use AMD processors. So is it really a surprise that MacRumors would continue to report on Intel processors more frequently than AMD processors?

This transition will take awhile and probably have some bumps along the way just as other transitions have. There will be a lot of FUD posted here at MacRumors because, well, that's what people do. Readers have the option of getting angry about misinformation or opting to do a moments research to find where the truth lays. I enjoy the angry posts until I remember their vote counts the same as mine, then I just feel fear, uncertainty, and despair. Ah, FUD-it.
 
Hopefully Apple stay with Intel chips.
Apple has a history of comparing various processors running their OS's in their labs. This comparison of some ARM related examples has taken on legendary dimensions instead of being tested as real world Apple computers.

Lets wait and see which way Apple goes. Nothing wrong with considering everything for Apple consumers given price vs performance. :)
 
The consumer benefits of this Apple transition remain to be seen. I think there will be some sort of deficit of apps working on the Apple silicon. At least, for the first year or so. I’m not talking about the iPhone/iPad apps that will clearly work from the get-go. There are many other apps that currently only work on the x86 chip architecture. I guess, we’re going to have to wait and see how it all pans out.
