Let's see, there's revolutionary, evolutionary, incremental, and...what comes after incremental? Whatever it is, this update is about three levels below that.

And no word about new MacPro's.... ? Pfff well, if Apple stops with producing MacPro's then I'm done with Apple. Simply put, I've no choice then since I need powerpc's. I prefer OSX but like I said, if Apple doesn't come with a new MacPro then I'll figure out a PC workstation instead and conclude that Apple is truly not a manufactury building really powerfull PC's...

Let's hope that Apple will suprize me in march....

If you want Apple to update the processor in the Mac Pro you have to accept it will be a two year old processor. There are no skylake or kaby lake processors for the Mac Pro. So do you really want Apple to now update to an already outdated processor for marginal gains at best? The Mac Pro needs a lot of attention but the processor isn't its problem right now.

I'm convinced that the Apple Mac Pro will soon be EOL'd due to lack of sales or more importantly the reason, lack of commitment. Mac Pro's on eBay will continue to rise in price. They are actually more valuable, flexible, productive, expandable without gimmicks than any of the new PRO that Apple has released. :(
Apple still doesn't have stable drivers for the Radeon 7950, the top of the line graphics card that they sold as an upgrade. Their solution was to just discontinue a portion of the affected machines, to just make it go away slowly.
Apple should start marketing its products at the CES, because they are turning into that kind of company.
Tim Cook has no vision for pro users, and possibly less respect for them than Steve Jobs did.
The only thing I can see from this is from zen processor. Other than that it's game over.

I thought about that too since my MBP is showing its age and I have a nice 4K display. I don't think the current Mini can do 4K though right?
Unfortunately, I don't believe it does :/ Might be worth waiting in that case. Honestly though, this thing is doing what I need it to, so no complaints so far.

iMacs haven't changed prices In years.
  1. Different parts of the world have price increases due to a strong US Dollar
  2. Don't forget Apple going all in on the touchbar. So expect a $300-$400 keyboard to be included with all new iMacs, whether you want it or not

Does this announcement's timeline differ from the Intel roadmaps we've been using thus far?

No it follows their historic product roll-out.

Sounds like no real performance gain for anything that doesn't make heavy use of 3D or 4K video?

This was pointed out last year amongst all the Apple haters demanding the new chip.

Yes it will be a minor improvement for the MBP, but the Mini should be good with the improvemewnt in video.

Definitely, the LG 5k I'm on right now also has the wide color gamut, and it's certainly noticeable. It's the best picture I've ever seen easily.

And your LG 5K display is even better than the one used in the iMac 5K, supporting 10 bits per color rather than 8 bits per color.

Sigh, to be honest, my mid 2012 Macbook Air is absolutely sufficient for my needs. Guess by the time I'll upgrade, Apple will be making their own ARM chips and getting decent performance out of it.

After seeing some of the performance reviews of the Kaby Lake i7700k, it saved me about $350 by not having to upgrade the 6700k.

Have fun with that.

yeah, I will :) Thanks!

My current MacBook Pro is the last one, I'm not into the new model for so many reasons.

So, show me the Xeon that would provide more power than the one currently in the Mac Pro.

And what do you consider "Powerful Specs"? The iMac is a MIDRANGE All-In-One. As such, it has some heat-dissipation constraints that dictate the CPU "power".

Do I think there ought to be a product between the iMac and the Mac Pro? Yes; but I don't think there is as large a market for that product as you think, and at this point, Apple is content to let the Hackintosh Community fill-in that (much smaller than you think) gap.

Apple's not stupid. If they saw that the Hackintoshes were becoming more of "a thing", they might consider filling that market niche with either an "iMac Pro", or a slightly less-powerful Mac Pro model.

Yeah. Have fun with THAT POS.

Oh, yeah. And Windows 10...

Mwuahahahahahaha!!!

at least it's more powerful than the new Apple POS, I will keep my current MacBook Pro for the first year then if everything works, not coming back again.

Apple made me waits for a whole year for nothing.

Intel wants to cast doubt that Apple is switching their Mac line to ARM in 2017 / 2018. Late 2016 Microsoft demo'd full Windows 10 with x86 (32bit) backwards compatibility running on an ARM chip and OS X's kernel already supports ARM, and Apple happens to cook up their own ARM chips in house already for iPhones and iPads.

Okays now that's what I'm waiting for: the new Dell XPS 15 :)

The new version of that notebook should be great! I priced out a current gen fully loaded with i7/32GB mem/1TB nvme ssd/4K display/4 years of pro support for just under $3,200. The current MacBook Pro i7/16GB/512GB with apple care is about the same price makes me sad. That $300 premium for the touch bar really shows.

does this include that single port 5k video signal or whatever it is everyone has been waiting for about 3 years now? according to some processor review sites these new chips don't really perform to their claims. slightly lower power consumption and marginal if any improvement in overclocking ability and same performance at the same clock rate.

Yeah it's more powerful for less money, without the support it will cost you 2900$ fully loaded.
and you can also get the Precision 15 5000 Series (5510) which is based on the current XPS 15 design for more power (Xeon processor, two SSDs...) and it will still cheaper than the new MacBook Pro with all the ports.

It's wise to wait until they adapt the new Kaby Lake processors, won't take so long for Dell I think.

You say Mac mini, but are they really going to release a newer model this year? I do hope so, and it better be a quad core machine this time.

There's one more chip......but.....

Ha Ha Ha! Classic! Good analogy...maybe true....

The new Macs are already obsolete less than two months with an announcement like this. Then again, Apple couldn't wait any longer. Expect updates in March for the MacBook Pro. Apple should have just said, we are waiting on Kaby Lake, give us until March, it will be worth it. Then again, who am I to talk, I am not even in the market for a new Mac. But for those who just spent 4 grand, this probably leaves a bit of a bad taste, since buyers in March will be getting a better deal just for waiting a bit longer.

No...macbook pro will probably not get an update in March, but probably the iMac. That would put a very bad taste in newly bought MacBook pros buyers over the Holidays, especially paying the high prices for the top-of-the line toy. Does not make business sense, but hey...apple can do what they want I guess.

Oh...I remember when iPad 3 was updated to iPad 4 just months after iPad 3 came out. I still have a bad taste about that one...but...still use my iPad 3 :)

And people wonder why processors are being "delayed." Lol
