Side note but does anyone think there would be a keynote coming up explaining what the new mbp willl be like? like with the macbook air? (im new to apple, I don't have an apple but I really want one)

Why does anybody have to get fired? Intel has been leading the industry in chip development for years without skipping a beat. Nobody deserves to lose their job after one mistake in years.

Yes, and then I take the appropriate action to fix the problem so it doesn't happen again. Firing some of the smartest chip engineers in the world isn't the answer.

It was you wasn't it? This is all your fault! ;)

I guess I can wait, because I wasn't planning to get it until early summer, but it's just cool to see what the mbps will be like. Soooo this definitely wasn't what I was expecting,...

Just remember that your timing was good in the first place. Lion should be here around June. You won't have to upgrade.

So do you think they would actually wait till summer to release the new mbps because of lion?

Anyone think Apple will ever use anything but Core 2 Duo on the Airs?

I highly doubt I will replace my uMBP with another one when the time comes. I absolutely love the Air form factor and weight but hoping in 1.5-2 years time we will have a backlit keyboard, lower prices for SSD and a move away from these ancient core 2 duos...

Intel designs their new iX CPUs to only work with Intel chipsets. Intel then manufactures their own faulty chipset for the iX CPUs.

Serves them right.

Let other manufacturers make chipsets you monopolistic ******s.

I don't keep up with all this chip stuff, and I don't understand much of it.
I REALLY want to buy a new iMac (currently using a G5 bought in Feb 2005)
I'm tempted to buy an i5 refurb, but I've convinced myself to wait for the next revision and buy that.

What does this news mean for someone like me?

It means that whenever the iMac was scheduled to be updated / revised, that date probably got pushed back by a couple of months. But that'll be the same for all PC manufacturers.

If you need an iMac, buy it otherwise wait until the updates are released.

Do you guys know if the new macbook pro might be a redesign? Or do you think they will stick with the same design for 2011?

You'd fire QA people, not the engineers. The bug-hunters are the ones who let it slip through.

QA people are engineers too.

Let me re-phrase - you would -not- fire the chipset designers. You'd fire the QA team responsible for letting that slip through.

Except in the real world stuff happens and no-one will get fired, which is correct. Does anyone think that whoever was responsible for the "sticking Toyota accelerator pedal" got fired?

The article mentions desktop chipsets in reference to the iMac. This makes me wonder if the iMacs actually use desktop CPUs, motherboards and GPUs as I was under the impression that the iMacs used to use laptop components.

I'd be glad if anyone could shed some light on this for me?

Thanks

Still have to wait for lion though :'( If I get my new laptop with snow leopard then do i need to pay full price for lion

Really? You will rather wait several months for a laptop you're spending ~2k for in order to save on software that's going to cost you a whopping 29.99?

EDIT: Yes you will have to pay full price.
