Funny thing is, they're right... Apple has gone from the clean desktop to the cluttered desktop. This is what you get when you remove the insides of a computer and put it on the outside all for the sake of saying you make the world's thinnest/lightest laptop or computer.

Of course as I have said before... these commercials... whether done by Apple or someone else has never sold anyone on buying a computer. If it did, they would probably also buy the Brooklyn Bridge or heavily invest in swamp land.

Last time I was in an Apple store, an employee met with me about my AirPods Pro defect. At one point another employee brought her a keychain of dongles to connect it to the Mac that looked just like that picture.

Of course that employee did - right tool(s) for the right job.

There are so many potential combinations of Mac computers and peripherals that people use and might need help with, that it would be foolish for the Apple Store employees in your example (and in any Apple Store) not to be prepared to help any and all customers that come in for help.

Got a rMP, got 1 (Multi)Dongle that I leave at home most of the time.

What I do carry is a dualended USB-stick (USB-A/C).

BIIIIIIIIIIG Problem indeed.

Mind you I'm also NOT complaining bout the "slow" Intel chip being throttled or the "broken" butterfly-KBD (which I actually like).

That’s a pretty poor career move for Justin Long, betraying the company that made him a rich and famous pop culture icon. It’s like the “can you hear me now?” Verizon guy who is now the spokesman for Sprint. They’re scummy ad campaigns, and it makes both the companies and the actors look bad.

Intel is continuing its anti-Apple ad campaign, today sharing a tweet that calls out the lack of ports on M1 Macs. In a photo, actor Justin Long sits on a couch with a Windows PC and holds up a handful of Apple dongles.

Apple's Macs have long been derided for their lack of ports and the need to use dongles for various accessories and displays. Since 2016, Macs have included only USB-C ports, with Apple having done away with HDMI ports, USB-A ports, and SD card readers in its notebook lineup. That's set to change in 2021, though, with rumors suggesting Apple will introduce new MacBook Pro models that once again feature an SD card reader and an HDMI port.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who shared Apple's future port plans in January, said that in the future, "most users may not need to purchase additional dongles."

The ad follows several anti-M1 Mac videos that Intel shared yesterday starring Justin Long, who used to be in the well-known "I'm a Mac" Apple ads. In the videos, Long promotes Intel-based PCs, highlighting their gaming capabilities, touchscreens, and other features.

Intel's ads come as Apple is moving away from Intel chips in its Mac lineup. Apple in November released the M1 chip in the MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac mini, and there are more Apple silicon chips on the way. Over the course of the next two years, Apple plans to transition away from Intel chips entirely.

The Justin Long ads are not the first anti-Apple ads that Intel has shared. In February, Intel began a Twitter-based campaign attempting to point out the shortcomings of M1 Macs. Intel appears to be feeling threatened by Apple's chip options. M1 chips received a huge amount of attention at launch due to their impressive speed and efficiency, which Intel chips are unable to match.

Apple has even faster chips on the way, and there will be little for Intel to call out once MacBook Pro models with next-generation Apple silicon chips and a range of ports are available.

It's a fair comment.

But good thing Apple is putting HDMI and SD card reader on the upcoming MacBooks.
Can’t wait to see how they are gonna go about calling addition of HDMI and SD slot in 2022 “a leap forward” or “true progress” or “innovation like no other” :D

I've got it! Apple's comeback ad campaign when they release the M1X/M2 processors based hardware would be to have The Prodigy's "Smack my b*tch up" song playing in the background BUT with the more politically correct slogan of "Smack your chip up"!!! We all know Apples next set of chips will truly smoke Intel's.

Meanwhile their actual competition, AMD, is kicking their ass in.

Not to mention the new MBPs are supposed to bring back a lot of the ports. Probably because they don’t need very large batteries now since they’re not using Intel, so there is a lot more room inside.

the one dongle apple really pushes on people is the ssd dongle. :)

Because it's either pay $400 to "upgrade" from 256gb to 1TB or buy an external 1tb ssd for just north of $100.

I own zero dongles and an M1 MacBook Air. I get along just fine. How many peripherals are folks hooking up to with wires, these days, anyhow?
Quite a few things actually. In my office, my CalDigit hub handles everything for me. RJ45, SD-Card, Display Port cable, TimeMachine drive, and USB-3 memory sticks for the map updates for my car.
I also connect my Camera using USB-C to download images and charge the camera at the same.

Yes, I have some Dongles but they are small and cheap. A long way from all the SCSI adapters and terminators that I used to have to carry around with me.

Can I get a count on how many apple fanboys are now mad at Intel.
Uh, as someone who has used Intel Macs for 14 years and now sees how pitiful Intel's offerings are compared to what Apple can produce on its own, I'm pretty much over Intel. I think everyone is. Everyone that isn't hung up on some other non-issue.

I had one of those CalDigits. It was a great product, but I returned it because I have the opposite problem. I plug into a monitor with ThunderBolt... and that's it. Everything else is wireless, including my TimeMachine backups, etc. Perhaps if I were a photographer, I can see an SD reader! But printers are wireless, networking is wireless, backups can be wireless. AirPlay. Game controllers are wireless. File transfers are done with DropBox, airdrop, email, etc.

If folks need the ports (some obviously do), I hope they're included in the future, but I also hope they will have similarly spec'd laptops with 2-4 Thunderbolts for those like me who get along fine without.

Good for Intel. Maybe they can shame some sense into Apple for the stupid things Apple does.
I'll bite. What percent of MacBook users: 1. ever use a dongle, 2. sometimes use a dongle, or 3. regularly use dongles? Once we know that, then we can discuss whether or not Apple's port decisions are wise. We cannot base this off MacRumors readers/commenters. It has to be a sampling from the general MacBook user population.

The lack of ports have nothing to do with the M1 vs Intel debate, that's purely Apple being dumb and not listening to it's customers. Alternatively, if Apple want to not have so many ports then they could try innovating and lead the way to making peripherals be more (locally) wireless - kind of like what they're doing with earpods etc.
Some wires will always be needed (ethernet, conference room monitors etc.) but even that dongle could connect with the Mac wirelessly. Man, wouldn't that be wonderful...

I kinda hate Intel as a company, so watching them flail about now, knowing that their competition with Apple is going to get even more lopsided when the updated Pros and iMacs come out, brings extreme joy to my heart.

Just like someone criticising their ex out of jealousy because they’re now seeing someone who has a Ferrari

I'd like to think that Apple could come up with something very clever to rebut these ads. But they're likely way too busy working away on 3nm processors while the only innovation Intel can apparently manage is zingers about dongles.

Lol Intel says go PC,but in fact PC is their biggest problem right now where their ass is getting kicked by AMD..😄

So,

Intel makes chips. Not computers, not their peripherals, not their displays, not their software. Just chips. And yet, they bash Apple, who design their own chips, peripherals, displays and software? I would understand if Intel compared their chips to the Apple M1. I would even understand if HP, Lenovo, Dell or Asus compared their laptops to Apple's.

But this? This is just pathetic. Intel just designs one single part of a multicomponent machine. It's not just the freakin' CPU that makes the whole experience great, it's the entire package. And Intel has nothing to do with it.

Really, really pathetic. This brand deserves to go down, just like Samsung. Just for the sake of this ridiculous mentality of bashing others instead of highlighting the qualities of their products.
