Nice try. Nope, my purchases of computers or other products need no justification to others. Just responding to your ill-informed claims of Apple products being inferior:

"inferior storage, wifi, storage, screens. but somehow silicon, which is hardly 'in front' of everything else makes up for all that LMAO."

Try to stay on topic rather than sling insults at others.
i could say the same to you. you have yet to counterpoint my argument. instead you just keep changing your mind to nonsense. you spin more than linda blair in the exorcist!

I, too, wish that Apple would get back into the WiFi router market with some really compelling offering.
You really want all 3rd party products to disappear from the store?
Yes every time Apple comes out with a product they remove all the competition from the store. :D

i could say the same to you. you have yet to counterpoint my argument. instead you just keep changing your mind to nonsense. you spin more than linda blair in the exorcist!

More insults instead of substantiating your claim.

You claimed "Apple was always behind."
My counterpoint: I responded with Apple leading with Apple Silicon, and explained why Apple was no longer in the WiFi router market.

You shifted and then brought up Apple storage, screens, etc. being inferior.
My counteroint: I responded with the computer I actually own and use pointing out storage, memory, ethernet, TB-4 ports, and 5K display are hardly inferior.

You then shifted to trying insult me rather than take issue with what I said.
My counterpoint: I pointed that out and asked again to explain how the two Apple products I referenced are inferior.

And you now punt with another insult, rather than take issue with my response to your claim.

Your certainly excel with insults.

So you didn't see the GUNDAM-themed router from ASUS yet?

But hold on! There is a whole series... 😮😄

Oh and what about the ASUS ROG wireless AX11000 tri-band Wi-Fi 6 gaming router?

Christ. Does anyone make good, modern routers for adults?

no. there's a market for everyone. if people don't like the way some of the fancy routers look, stop wasting time and seek out wifi 6 / 6e routers & mesh solutions that are tame, elegant boxes. they exist.
But they really don’t. I wanted to set up a tri-band WiFi 6 mesh network where both the fronthaul and backhaul 5GHz network channels were capable of 160MHz bandwidth. The only option (and I’ve looked and I’ve yet to find another) is to use three of those awful-looking ASUS tri-band gaming routers (and that means the square ones with eight antennas) and to configure them using Asus’ AIMesh feature.

mmm but they really do.

"I’ve looked and I’ve yet to find another"

no you didnt

"and that means the square ones with eight antennas"

for the love of god:

asus. not something with "8 antennas"

netgear orbi. no antennas poking out either.

also no poking out antennas

netgear boxes. mesh. no poking out antennas.

"but they really dont"

yeah. they do. no, you didnt search a whole lot.

"For the love of god" I'm not sure what all the snark is for but, yes, yes I did search. A whole lot. You evidently didn't bother to read my entire post because you left out the key part ("both the fronthaul and backhaul 5GHz network channels were capable of 160MHz bandwidth") when you quoted it. So, regarding the systems you linked:

XenWifi XT8: "Unfortunately, however, the XT8’s front-haul doesn’t support 160MHz channels."

Netgear Orbi RBK852: "Tri-band Wi-Fi 6 but no support for 160MHz channel width"

Amplify Alien:
(in other words, this one doesn't have two WiFi 6 bands, much less two 160MHz bands. FWIW, if a band is 160MHz, it's by definition at least WiFi 6)

Netgear Nighthawk MK83:

Not even a single 160MHz channel, much less two.

So, to repeat, I've yet to find a mesh system that supports 160MHz-wide WiFi 6 (not 6E) fronthaul and backhaul channels unless it has antennas sticking out all over the place. If someone manages to locate one, I'd love to hear about it.

you totally missed the memo. most consumers are all on wifi. now more than ever. phones, laptops and tablets, all wifi. most console users just use wifi now too.
since wifi ac/ax it's become 'almost' as reliable as ethernet.
i would still use ethernet when available, but it's become easier to troubleshoot wifi than wired connections tooWi
The vast majority of electronics are not compatible with ethernet. But consumers should have the option of both. I am personally increasingly disappointed at how copper/RJ45 10GbE at the enthusiast level has been underutilized and so often completely absent on most of these (hideous) routers.

A mix of 6GHz Wi-Fi + 10GbE would be the ultimate home-network setup, but has been out of reach for consumers for far too long.
Wired for me. I have every room in my house wired for anything fixed in place ( TV, ATV, MB pro, etc)

I choose ethernet. Always superior stability & speed.

I’m sure that works great when hooked up to your iPhone.
Not iPhone because of the lame, low-speed port. But I've connected a USB-C Ethernet adapter to my Android phone and used it as a wired Hotspot to my router to use as a failover when my cable goes out. It works. Can't do that with iPhone, though...

the *details* of what you *specifically* wanted is frankly irrelevant.

because what you responded to, and the only thing i was commenting on (responding to) was that there were *NO* wifi 6 or 6e routers on the market that didnt look like "ridiculous gaming routers with lots of antennas".

i pointed out all of the devices that are literal boxes with no antennas. i accomplished what was talked about.

i wasnt here, or ever started a discussion over some specific specs you care about.

Old is old, 802.11 AC doesn’t perform as well as 802.11 AX (Wi-Fi 6). 6E is still quite new as there aren’t that many products that even suppport that in common consumer goods like TVs for example. Incorporating Wi-Fi 7 will be even further delayed it seems using 6E as a model.
what would make you think wifi 7 won't be delayed and why shouldn't companies skip wifi 6E altogether? I didn't notice much difference of AC vs 6 however my NYC apartment did suffer from congestion and 6E would've been perfect

For the love of everything wireless, PLEASE APPLE step back into the router game!

Mesh Extreme unit
Mesh Express extenders
HomeKit hub
HomePod built in
Hey Siri

I would totally be interested if they release an Apple TV/HomePod combined unit with a built-in router.

anyone with a NAS will happily use and *need* more than 1gbps transfer rates.

Need might be a bit strong and if you really need the performance there with a NAS that can provide it, you're getting to the point of wanting wired connection for the stability, latency and extra bandwidth you're going to get anyway. Depending on your use case, a good chunk of the time a gigabit is actually sufficient even for a NAS use case.

At this point Eero filled that ease of use gap and is easy to set up though it requires a mobile app.

On Prime day I ordered a wifi6 three pack to replace my airports. I turned off the wifi on the Extreme and put the eero in bridge mode so I still manage the network on the Extreme, but I have a faster and more reliable mesh wifi network now.

Also Amazon Eero WiFi routers appear to be pretty good. I have an Eero 6+ for backup. And the price is right. Excellent performance, too.

My problem with Eero is that they used to blackhole traffic to BSD jails which was a PITA. Once I figured out that was going on and realised it was a known issue that Eero just won't route the packets properly and didn't care to fix it, I packed them up and went back to my Airport Extreme base stations.
