Exactly. What about the processors? Why is Intel avoiding discussion of the one part of those machines they have any involvement in? Because it‘s damage control. You can make the claim you have about Macs for another year, and the industry for probably another few years, but Intel fears that the inevitable has finally happened and x86 is in decline.
[most] people do not buy processors. They buy computers hence an add about computers. When did you see the last ad about a processor from any company (including Apple)? Never? Why is Apple not making the ads about processors? Are their processors that bad or something?

I think we all know what this ad is supposed to do. (it's debatable whether it will be successful)

But what kind of conversations must be happening behind-the-scenes at Intel? What prompted the making of these commercials in the first place?

I'd love to be a fly on the wall in a room full of Intel engineers and marketers.

:)

I find it amusing everyone talks about "gaming" and how bad it is in the Apple ecosystem. When Apples revenue from gaming was reported to be multiple times the revenue of all the other gaming companies combined.

I actually loved our MP6,1s: they rocked from the day I got them till they got replaced by MP7,1s. Yes it was a long wait for the MP7,1 - but the "trashcan" was far better than some people out here make it out to be. We sold our MP6,1s second hand for a nice amount to an architect who was replacing his MP5,1s (wanted to upgrade to a more cerent macOS version). Dude even sent me an email afterward asking if I had any more of them as he found the MP6,1s rocked too and wanted more of them.

I hate the touchbar - to me the touchbar is far, far worse than the butterfly keyboard - Apple's (free) replacement program gives you a butterfly keyboard that actually is OK to use and doesn't seem to get anymore debris inside the keyboard now.
Then you must be sadistic.
Mac Pro is by every metric objectively trash.
Change the GPU? Nope apple patented design. With no aftermarket upgrade.
CPU? Yes indeed by the grace.
storage? Only ONE ssd alot.

how about HDD or more SSD storage? Well you are **** out of luck

a modern GPU? Dock on tables
One extra SSD? Dock on table
Extra HDD? Dock on table

there is a good reason why they abandoned it.
At least Corsair made their solution water cooled and you can change the GPU
3 M.2 pcie SSD and one HDD spot.

Intel is coming across desperate. It makes them look worse not better.

However, they're correct about not being able to game on the Mac, and needing several devices to do what you need.

At least it isn't a child trying to explain why the tablet he was handed is better, although not sure if the "moderator" would know much of what they're looking at with those machines either. I've been a lifelong PC builder and am now looking forward to getting a Mac because of the seamless ecosystem and intuitiveness...but that's just me.

they're not wrong about not being able to game, and needing several devices.

I guess it depends on the game. Seems there's actually a lot of gaming happening on Apple devices.

And needing multiple devices isn't really a problem if each device is tailored for a specific purpose.

Would someone rather read books on a 10 ounce iPad Mini? Or a three pound 14" Dell 2-in-1 laptop with your fingers mashing the keys on the keyboard folded around the back?

;)

Don’t you have phones?
I’m sorry but candy crush and guess the right word is not really games people talk about.

come back when Dark souls, Nioh, shadow die twice, Doom eternal, Gears of war, Stellaris, StarCraft 2, LoL, Counter strike, beat saber etc. games running in 4K ray tracing and ultra settings can run on that phone Of yours. Or on our M1 Mac (never going to happen without external GPU support) and normal macs without melting the computer or using boot camp

Aple devices are poor man's gaming computers.

I guess I’m just confused on how they’d be allowed to be a foundry after they keep up this pathetic marketing strategy. It’s one thing if your products are actually superior like the old Mac vs PC ads back in the day, but when you have to stretch like this it just comes off sad.

The old Macs were so superior that Apple eventually had to turn them into PCs and make sure they could run inferior Windows.

Aple devices are poor man's gaming computers.

How do you misspell the most important word in that sentence? On an Apple enthusiast forum? 🤣

But yes... Macs aren't good for playing AAA PC games. What's new.

I doubt any of those "real users, not actors" would trade their Macs for any of the "Intel" products featured in this commercial.

:p

I fail to understand how can it be a positive thing to have soldered RAM?
You can have 8 or 16GB locked in. so will developers producen 8GB optimized programs? Effectively you argue for making ether 16 or 8GB the standard.

why can’t we have solders 8/16GB ram and one slot to put in more ram if needed in 10 years?

why not have soldered SSD memory but also one M.2 a lot we could use to upgrade the storage with 500GB more or even 4TB sticks in 5 years?

why not have the ability to upgrade instead of scrap/sell to buy a new one?
While I have upgraded the RAM and HDD/SSD in my iMac and MBP in the past many family and friends do not. It’s a comfort thing and even then will only consider it as a last resort. Most average consumers balance needs now and up to 3-5 years out and present budget. While there is a small percentage in comparison (including me) who would not hesitate to open up an iMac or MacBook to upgrade RAM and SSD it’s simply not the majority of consumers. I understand it’s not something we want to hear and would prefer the option but if it happens I would welcome the surprise from Apple. I am not loosing sleep over it as upgrading any component is not done frequently. The reason I upgraded my HDD to an SSD was related to speed and the RAM was related to a balance of curiosity and cost.

The real question and solution is for Apple to bring the cost of upgrading during the purchase phase to make it more affordable and in-line with reality and this is the big issue as most people upgrade these components post purchase due to cost either more affordable from third party or betting the future will bring cheaper pricing. External SSD prices have come down a lot in recent months and years that ot does not make sense to hedge all ones bet on the internal SSD. I use a combination of cloud (not iCloud), NAS and external SSD.

oh come on that ad is so fake people are so fake, acting so bad, yes there apple only people like that and it’s for good reason because they can rely on them more than they can any other company for many different facets.
while upgrading computers would be great and i love the ability when I can do that, most people don’t even know or care and even the ones that do it’s not a deal breaker, people have moved on from this years and years ago and it’s also part of the upgrade cycle too, we know it anyway and we’ve all moved on.

Haha. What a load of arse. Those reaction shots are edited in. Those sound bites are all so very convenient as well. I'd be surprised if 20 percent of this ad is raw.

Obviously Apple computers can do better. More games (I don't care, but many do). Maybe a touch screen. But Ram isn't gonna change due to M series chips and 2 in 1s don't work so far. Maybe in the future they will, but they are still clunky. And of course the biggest issue is that they run windows and you lose the eco system.

Aple devices are poor man's gaming computers.

Chalk me up as another person who has no time or patience for full AAA games then. Currently playing the following games: Grimvalor on iPad, world of demons on Apple Arcade, slay the spire on iPad. Great for filling in small pockets of spare time here and there, especially useful for killing time during boring zoom meetings, and it doesn’t require me to sit down to set aside hours or tether me to a desk.

I also have a switch lite and while I have purchased a few games, it seems that something changed in between the years that I switched to a Mac and threw my entire library of windows games and I find that I no longer have the patience or the interest in them.

I think the market for desktop gaming is really overrated and overstated, and I think the main reason why it keeps getting brought up is because it’s something that Macs technically can’t do well, but then you look at the user base and realise it’s not something the majority need or miss.

You presume I didn't buy the MP6,1s with the right amount of stuff in them already. They were indeed custom built, and I've never had any need to upgrade anything in them till they got replaced by the MP7,1s - in fact the CPU and GPU in the MP6,1 were maxed out, there was plenty of RAM and well storage: that's why we have a few synology boxes in the basement.
Same goes for the MP7,1s: they're unlikely to need an upgrade in the coming years, they'll do what they do till they get replaced (and honestly: I'm looking forward to an Apple Silicon box to replace them with - if the M1 mac mini could have more RAM, I might have considered one of those already to be fair

The need for upgrading after I bought it isn't a need of mine. What I do see a a huge problem with the MP7,1s: heat.

but why have a synology NAS in the basement when you can have it on the computer? Not better to use that for backup? Cheaper and easier

and the MP6.1 you maxed out was stuck with an outdated GPU for 5+ years.
I don’t know if you can have a red when that option didn’t exist. You could have used any. You never needed to do you job faster?
Replace the D600/700 SLI with dual 980ti? The 1080? 2080 or 2060 and 3080? apple l quite even that esr

Then why upgrade to the MP7.1?

Why do you see a heat problem with the MP7.1? Could easily swap the GPU with something else. Or change the stock cooling fans with more efficient ones. Or just water cool to for a quieter and cooler work station? Now you can adapt it for your
