I've been considering whether it's worth going back to a non-pro iPhone. I like the red phones, and have gotten a pro in the past few years. I like the dynamic island but I don't see it as necessary, but the battery life is not all-day for me.

Not sure if I'd miss ProMotion.

Is it worth £250 for me? Not sure...

Multiple rumors have suggested that the next-generation iPhone 15 models will adopt the Wi-Fi 6E standard that Apple has already introduced in the iPad Pro and MacBook Pro, and now a leaked document appears to confirm Apple's plans.

Article Link: Internal Apple Document From Leaker 'Unknownz21' Confirms Wi-Fi 6E Will Be Limited to iPhone 15 Pro Models

So looks like the Ultra will be just for the Titanium and data-heavy users will need to downgrade to the Pro model... Apple: You're choosing it wrong.

/s

I take all this sort of sht with an Apple rounded-corner spoon of salt.

Also, dynamic shiteland is stupid because it intrudes FURTHER into the screen than the diminutive notch.... seriously, who the actual fk came up with that absolute....

Oh wait... I've seen this before.... in three years, apple will migrate the "tardland" to the top edge of the screen and claim they reinvented water.

6E range becomes quite limiting, and it is worse with 7. You really need a mesh with backhaul system to enjoy the benefits, so that you are more often close to a strong signal. You'll need to be within a few meters of the router to enjoy the best that Wifi 7 speed increases offer. And forget going through walls and enjoying those increases.

There are additional benefits other than 6Ghz Spectrum support on WiFi 6E.

so it looks like the ‘Pro’ iPhones are going to be the hardware guinea pigs from now on. Fine by me. First adopters pay the price by being hardware beta testers. Better to wait a generation to get a more refined product
I'm more than happy to be the beta tester. I'll report back to the forums in September.

Bro we know it will be Wi-Fi6E even the kid will know because latest apple devices like iPad Pro M2 and Mac M2 2023 have it so I can easily guess the iPhone will have Wi-Fi6E

It’s not just about speed. 6Ghz is a less used frequency range, so it’s less likely to suffer interference. Having 6Ghz available as well as the other frequencies guarantees a more stable and reliable connection.
So once 100 million iPhone 15 Pro phones are using 6Ghz and every other home has a 6E router using 6Ghz, is it still a less used frequency range or does it become congested also? Then what?

Apple wants to have the consumers purchase only the Pro models. Apple seriously needs to consider moving the regular dollar iPhone lineup in the Spring event. Save the Fall event just for the Pro models exclusively.
Doesn’t make sense though, from an iOS release standpoint. If you release iOS in the spring, then it’s lost its “Shiny new” factor with the Pro phones. And if you don’t, you lose the benefit of any new features included with non-pro (e.g. Satellite communications, crash detection on iPhone 14).

Yeah, I just read up on it, crazy speeds, it will definitely kill ethernet at this rate, and it will undoubtedly give 5G some competition.
It's unlikely that any wireless technology is going to surpass (or "kill") Ethernet any time soon when it comes to latency and sustained, consistent throughput. Also, while walls and other barriers will attenuate wireless signals, cables can be made to go through them when it comes to optimally interconnecting nodes.

Why is everyone so upset??

They need to differentiate between the regular and pro models. And this is a perfect example of something they can justify to limit to the pro model.

I’m a pro user and even I don’t care that much about wifi 6e. Let alone average users.

Unsurprising as the new HomePod features just Wi-Fi 4. Maybe iPhone 15 (non-pro) will feature up to Wi-Fi 5.
HomePod doesn't need anything more than basic WiFi. just streaming musinc, it doesn't need that bandwidth.
Same with phone, i wouldn't see any use with WiFi 6 either.

Is it just me or does the existence of the “Pro” model backfire for other people, too?

Its high price tag makes it completely uninteresting. And it’s existence makes the other iPhone lame by comparison and absolutely not worth getting.

So you end up just not buying an iPhone at all.

IDK, I don’t feel that way about the Mac lineup. I was fine with it when it was just a Plus and regular iPhone. But the “Pro” iPhones really rub me the wrong way. They just make the entire iPhone brand seem icky.
that was Steve Job's philosophy.
Apple is moving away from that, it is unfortunate.
His idea was to have one or 2 in pro and consumer catogery.

It’s pathetic. No new buttons and wifi for the 2023 iPhone unless you buy the ridiculously priced one. I hope they go broke.
Agree, WiFi 5 GHz in my phone is soo slow, i need ethernet port on my phone to stream 8K movies now.

99% of the people complaining here won't even notice any difference if i hand them a phone with WiFi 6/7.

As an average user (when it comes to the phones), I don't care about paying a premium for all of the camera updates. Instead, I'm looking for the newly released features to be in a phone I buy. When I see that they "differentiate" their lineup by making the iPhone 14 practically the same as the 13, then I just tell myself to wait yet another year to buy a phone that has the majority of features I'm interested in (especially as concerns OS UI functions, connectivity, and speed).

If Apple made a version of their phone that, for an up-charge over the base model, provided their most recent OS innovations and updated the chips but didn't include all of the camera upgrades (which is where the greatest expense lies anyway), that would make this whole breakdown of "pro" vs "average" user less of a sore issue with some people.

Agreed, I refuse to pay that much for a phone, and now that they seem to be increasingly nerfing the non-pro iPhones I'm feeling like I'll just be upgrading much less frequently. Reality is progress has slowed so much you aren't really missing much with a 2-3 generation old iPhone these days anyway.
Absolutely not true. I yearly upgrade not only for the camera, but especially for the modems. The signal quality improves substantially with each modem upgrade, especially with the 5G modems (the current iPhone 14 modem is the Qualcomm X65). The upcoming X70 modem, to appear next week in the Samsung S23 and in the iPhone 15 has even much better performance both with better signal reach and with lower power use.

Especially in NYC with the skyscrapers and subways and 2 level below ground parking garages, the better modem with the better transceive support amplifier chips makes a substantial year-to-year difference.

Me, I think they should add the tip-out legs, so your iPhad can also serve as a coffee table. :D

Apple never got it. They teased us momentarily with the mini. There are many of us that prefer a smaller form factor, but want all of the pro features. If only they were "Brave Enough" to make that phone even once. They'd get a true representation of exactly how much of their market wants that.

If we had a third ecosystem that had similar functionality, I don't doubt many of us would have left by now.

It just means we'll all just keep waiting until we get all of the features that we want in a form factor that's palatable.

As it is, I suspect my 13 mini may be it until it's unsupported....I'd update every year (again, where's the iPhone upgrade program for Canada????) if there was a form factor that slid into my front pocket.
