does anyone actually purchase tv and movies on iTunes? it seems insane to me with netflix and hulu and even less legit sites to be paying a premium for this stuff
I own about 300 iTunes movies and tv shows. 99% of those came w my blurays and I sold many of the codes that I didn't care for as well to recoup bluray costs.

Netflix and Hulu don't have a lot of newer content. Hell, HBO, stars etc have a lot of newer content much earlier vs the streaming channels. The new Star Wars is on starz or fx app I think for example.

Why do I even read this forum? The comments here are just awful.
This forum has a mix of every tech type individual which is good. If you only want positive Apple posts then you need to create your own personal offline forum. Lol.

I love Apple and these past few years have been a disappointed one after the next. Tech for me has no loyalty without backing up w innovation and price points. I don't mind paying the Apple tax if it's better than others but lately this has not been happening. Look at M$ their conference was the one truly innovative.

My new tech hardware ideals are buying straight from software manufacturers. Be it ms/Apple/Google/Amazon. Quality is just miles better and last much more than third party crap that fails too quickly like hp (never again)

Can you watch the Tv shows right from the app from an iPhone? Without a TV and without an Apple TV?

Or is it just a companion app to the Apple TV?

$10 billion per year in R&D and Apple gives us a TV guide. I'm overwhelmed by all of this innovation.

No one doubts you are a bit overwhelmed by all this. Might we suggest a good cleanse of the toxins in your system. Oh, and you forgot to include some quip about "courage."

What many people are missing is that the TV app is the birth of a video counterpart to AppleMusic. As Apple fleshes it out, it'll replace the Videos app and iTunes for TV shows and movies.

This finally ends the longstanding awakward situation where a bloated iTunes does everything and has had most of its functions — but not all of them — replaced by other apps.

That's what I was noticing also. Definitely the next step for them. Proper Apple TV.

^This. It really sucks as I have a large library of all my ripped DVDs and BluRays that won't show up in it.
I've taken to using a 1tb iCloud subscription in place of Apple Music, simply because I want access to videos more than music whilst I'm out and about. It'd be nice if they treated videos on iTunes like music on iTunes, with the same kind of discovery too. But they've opted for a strange stance with videos.

Ultimately I hope Apple just merge all their services into one, or at least make an additional £20/mo "complete" package that grants you Apple Music, storage for videos, access SOME TV shows and films like Amazon Prime.

Oh good, another stock app I will never use.

But you still had to share. Wouldn't it have been better to get your weekly "courage" sarcasm post done, instead of wasting your time on this weak hearted stab at Apple?

Yeah i am a bit confused. I have developer account. Iphone 7 Plus and Ipad Pro 9.7 both upgraded to this beta. Both still have the video app in the same spot and no tv app.... hmm.

Apple "We are more committed than ever to the Mac".... and we get a TV guide missing the two largest content companies Netflix and Amazon.... WTF?

I am a loyal Apple user but I'm not sure they are as committed as they say.

Apple cant force either Amazon or Netflix to join up.

I own over 500 purchased HD movies on iTunes and perhaps a couple of hundred purchased HD full TV Show Seasons. Yes, people do actually still like owning content and also not being confined to a streaming service's time schedule of releases. Plus I love iTunes extras and movie commentaries. Can't get that on netflix.

Therefore, count me as excited for this new TV app, especially if shows your iTunes library plus the integrated store. As someone mentioned in this thread, I do hope this a harbinger for simplified iTunes with a branched out Movies and TV Shows store.
