does anyone actually purchase tv and movies on iTunes? it seems insane to me with netflix and hulu and even less legit sites to be paying a premium for this stuff

Yes of course. No one has everything itunes does. Not by a long shot.

Apple gives us an app to discover new content yet we still can't discover the new Mac Pro update.

How's that working out for you, being clever?

I own over 500 purchased HD movies on iTunes and perhaps a couple of hundred purchased HD full TV Show Seasons. Yes, people do actually still like owning content and also not being confined to a streaming service's time schedule of releases. Plus I love iTunes extras and movie commentaries. Can't get that on netflix.

Therefore, count me as excited for this new TV app, especially if shows your iTunes library plus the integrated store. As someone mentioned in this thread, I do hope this a harbinger for simplified iTunes with a branched out Movies and TV Shows store.

Does you collection include iTunes movies purchased from third party sources?

Nope, 100% iTunes. I don't rip because I got rid of practially my entire DVD and blu-ray collection a long time ago (except for a couple dozen DVDs and blu-rays because that were never released digitally). Went (almost) entirely digital and haven't looked back.

So the TV app half works on my iPhone but is blank on my iPad Pro. My iTunes purchases show on my iPhone but is blank on the iPad. Everytime I restart my device it moves the Videos app back to the last page. The Connect my apps doesn't work on either device though.

Well that app went into my " Stuff" folder. All it was, was a new app for purchases only and a store. Whoopee! I'll stick with "Videos" which so far does the same, and let's me access Home Sharing (albeit not very well). The TV app doesn't offer HS.

Btw, if you have to re-log into Home Sharing like I did, you have to do it via Music pane (in Settings), as it seems to be gone from the Video pane.

I use Xfinity and Amazon prime I need Apple with that and then I'll use it… Oh and also I need a high video quality for my HDTV. It's exciting if they can do everything they promise, but they will need cooperation from a lot of people.

The TV app is DOA with no Netflix imo.

I disagree, but I do think Apple needs to be a bit bolder in their approach. The new app should become the default home screen on tvOS. Then just tell people to get on board or risk watching someone else do so and become succesfull.

In the long run Netflix succeeds or loses based on their content anyhow. So they should just embrace this and continue to focus on original content.

Or for "some people liked this rumour about Apple that might not be true at all but could be so great if they'd only focus on things that are more important than the iTunes store which is a bloated, incoherent program that amazon rips apart by search algorithms that actually work and tagged content that actually makes sense as compared to iTunes"

This comment might be useful for you:

What many people are missing is that the TV app is the birth of a video counterpart to AppleMusic. As Apple fleshes it out, it'll replace the Videos app and iTunes for TV shows and movies.

This finally ends the longstanding awakward situation where a bloated iTunes does everything and has had most of its functions — but not all of them — replaced by other apps.

How about adding a dictionary which can deal with typos and misspelled words

This article should help with what they're trying to achieve dictionary wise (as well as other areas that this tech will improve, such as Siri):

how about making bluetooth more stable

They are on the Bluetooth SIG: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_Special_Interest_Group. They don't have the power to do what they want with the standard.

The W1 chip also does a lot of good work and is aimed at doing exactly what you want by improving the Bluetooth experience.

I love Apple. I hate what it has become.

Apple is exactly the same as it has been for a long time. They do things their own way. Still aiming for thin, still aiming for a wireless future, still trying to vertically integrate. Still generally pricey compared to competitors spec for spec, but when you throw in the other things like Apple Store support, respect for privacy, build quality etc, I am happy to pay it.

And things that have improved over the last few years - things like charitable contribution, larger spend on green initiatives and addition of (IMO) important things like ResearchKit.

No, but they can make a deal for us! Otherwise we use other apps and the idea of one app blows up

Now I just need my Apple TV to record like a TiVo...that would be perfect!

The only deal Apple can make is for them to buy Netflix. Not happening.

At its October 27 Mac-centric event, Apple announced a new "TV" app, which is designed to serve as a sort of TV guide, helping users discover new content and find TV shows and movies to watch. The TV app is meant to work across multiple devices, including iOS devices and the Apple TV, and as of today the TV app is available in the iOS 10.2 beta.

Apple's new TV app works hand-in-hand with features like Siri Live Tune-In and Single Sign-On, simplifying the television-watching experience.

In addition to a Library section that displays all the iTunes content a user has purchased, the TV app also features a "Watch Now" section that houses a collection of TV shows and movies from iTunes and other television apps a user has installed on an Apple TV or iOS device.

An Up Next feature keeps track of TV shows and movies across devices so you can pick up where you were watching, whether in the middle of a movie or the next episode of a TV show, and there are lists of curated and trending TV shows and movies.

A dedicated store lets users purchase content from iTunes or from other sources like HBO Go. The Store section also lets users sign in with their TV provider to find content available through an authenticated cable subscription.

Apple's release notes state that the TV app isn't yet fully functional, and it does not appear to be available in the tvOS 10.1 beta just yet. Apple has said the TV app will see an official release in December.

No TV APP here in the UK !!

Deleting. Can't see any of the 98% of tv shows and Movies that are non-apple store on my mac mini server. This plus the latest round of unimaginative hardware at mega premium prices = time to look at the non-apple competition.

What do you mean? For shows you stream illegally? Maybe you can download the channel apps without having to sign up so it will let you see the shows schedule? which is what you want to do no? To let you know when a show you watch airs?

No, I don't want to see a schedule. I get to watch TV for about 30 minutes per day and that is usually over multiple sessions and at variable times. Netflix is my go to streaming service. I don't watch scheduled programming. "TV" is a very broad term these days and I consider YouTube to be part of my tv usage.

I don't stream illegally. You don't seem to have the SJW approach of some people here but I still can't understand why this is the first point you made. Or why it came up at all. For what it's worth I cut my cable in 2003 and reallocated that money to physical DVD rentals. There were even a few years when I didn't have Internet or tv service at all and I watched plenty of tv. Not that anyone wants to hear this but you brought up the topic. I'd guess about half of the people in my office do stream illegally and I don't make a point of setting them straight nor do I see why anyone else should.

Interesting how it kicked out the videos app from my Apple folder. I had to put it back in. Now I have to be careful when I search for TV since I also have the xfinity TV app.

It IS the videos app with a new appdelegate. Same id and everything. The "videos" app is now a new version of the same app, with the original appdelegate. They just compile twice with different #ifdef's triggered, looks like.

Yes I do. Because there are somethings that are not on netflix or not in UK. Babylon 5 is what i own in full on iTunes.

Huh? Not on my devices, and it says in the release notes for beta 2 it isn't ready yet. Am I missing something?

I don't have it either on my 6s, but my ATV4 isn't on the PB. Maybe both devices need to be on the beta?
