Actually, I did because my work paid for mine in order to test it out and see if it was something we'd recommend to our employees.

Sure, it's pretty ugly by Apple standards, and you have to wonder how they let that slip through as acceptable to print the Apple logo on the back of it. But you know what? It's really functional! I've owned at least 4 other "battery cases" for my iPhones in the past, and all of them had design flaws or problems. I had a couple of them literally fall apart on me, with pieces separating from each other inside them. None of them used the Lightning port to charge them. So I always had to have a mini-USB charger handy to recharge them, even if I already had an Apple charger around for the phone itself. And they always had poor integration with the iPhone. (The phone would think it was on a charger every time it was plugged in to the battery case. It had no knowledge what the true remaining battery life was.)

With the "hideously ugly" Apple case, you get one that's designed well enough so there's a soft fabric on the inside, so your phone never gets scratched up taking it out of the case or putting it back in. The whole outside is a non-slip rubber material, making it far less likely to drop it by accident. It uses your regular Lightning charger and cable, and the phone gives you a new battery display screen showing both the charge levels of the phone and the case battery.

I'd buy it again if something happened to this one. It gets the job done -- and hey, it's no more ugly than an Otterbox Defender.

people actually bought that hideous battery case?

They completely changed the typing sound effects too. I liked the short lock click that they had in beta 4. The door closing is kind of novel. I wish they would give the option to change this.
I liked the previous lock sound too, it mirrored that on the preferences panel in macOS - if you are going to have continuity, then have it.

I also liked the haptic tap on locking, I hope it comes back.

Does anyone know what "panic" was being cause with the Smart Battery Case? Have been using the case since beta 1 and have not experienced an issue.
Not even just a touch of nervousness or a sense of impending doom?

Me too. I'd rather have the Airdrop and the huge Night Shift buttons on the separate page.
I'm surprised the AirPlay buttons are not up next to the antenna buttons and the brightness slider is not directly above the night shift button.

This so much!!!

It's like they are trying to include everything in there, noooo, it should be quick and easy access for most common tasks, not another settings app.

it was confusing before, and offense, people would slide the wrong slider.

I've always had hard time with bring up the control center from the bottom especially when the keyboard is on. They need to do something about it.

Up, Up, Down, Down, Shake iphone Left, Right, Left, Right. Yes! Music successfully paused
Lol this is what happens when they stuff in so many thing in a small device makes me wanna have a physical play/pause buttons.

Has this finally fixed the static/popping/skipping in the Music app? I;ve had it on every beta, no matter what the output (headhphones/speaker/wired carplay). Rewind in the song and the skip isnt in the same spot. Roll back to iOS 9 and its gone entirely. Its been bugging the hell outta me.

> The biggest change is a new lock sound

smh

Was anyone experiencing issues with the Smart Battery Case before? The one I use has worked just fine throughout the betas.

Mine was messed up. All kinds of error messages and bizarre charging/discharging issued.

Sorry, is it me or is this now awkward the way the dock is displaying the blurs?

I don't like the new output icon. My first reaction to that icon was "oh, what's Airdrop doing here?", and after checking the current Airdrop icon it's obvious why I got that reaction. They've just colored the triangle and repurposed the icon for something completely different. Ok, also the amount of waves is different, but still at a quick glance the icons are too similar. Maybe I'll get used to it after using it for a while, but right now I'm not too excited about the idea of added cognitive load here.

That's a matter of perspective. Sure, there may be some elements purely design related that third parties may have been able to address at little or no cost, and without Apple's interference (e.g. lining the case, not having it fall apart).

But for use of the lightning port, and having a better on screen display, that's more a case of Apple not necessarily working as openly with third parties as they might.

Apple today released new versions of iOS 10 to both developers and public beta testers, and as with any major beta update, there are several small changes and tweaks that have been implemented as Apple works to refine the operating system ahead of its release this fall.

Today's update, available as an over-the-air download for those who installed the first four betas or the beta configuration profile, features a new Lock screen sound, tweaks to the Control Center and widgets screen, and more.

We've rounded up some of the biggest changes in beta five in the video below, so make sure to check it out to get a quick look at what's changed. We're also listing all of the changes in the post below.

Smart Battery Case - The iPhone 6 and 6s should now work properly with Apple's Smart Battery Case. According to the iOS 10 release notes, the case will no longer cause devices to panic.

Photos - Apple plans to reprocess facial recognition data in beta 5, so all named, favorited, and merged face data will be reset.

Lock sound - There's a new sound when locking the iPhone. It sounds like a door closing.

New Output icon - The output icon seen in the Control Center, the Music app, and other locations in iOS has been slightly tweaked. It is no longer represented by headphones and instead resembles a triangle with sound waves.

Settings - The "Home" section in the Settings app has been removed on the iPhone, as it served no purpose, but it remains available on the iPad.

Widgets - The new widgets panel, accessible by swiping to the right, now displays the date on all devices.

Who proofed the script for the voiceover?

"Number" of changes, not amount. You're counting them not weighing them.

"One in particular" not "one in specific." You would say "one specifically is…"

Well, I've just disabled keyboard clicks again. I always found them annoying but in the early betas they've been nice and muted, just giving a slight audible feedback for keyboard presses. Far too loud and annoying again now. :(

You don't even know what you're talking about. It was not in developer notes that this sensor would suddenly be activated and if there was ever any moisture, the sensor will be activated forever.
I've been using developer betas for a while and I also only said "I wish Apple gave the option..."
so saying "go back to 9.3.4 is not a legitimate answer.
Actually, he does. I'd argue you don't. Betas have broken stuff in them. Apple betas in particular, really.

If you can't handle your phone being broken in annoying ways, don't use dev betas. It says pretty explicitly they're intended for development machines only so that you can prepare your apps for a new version of the OS. If you decide to go against that recommendation, you don't really have a right to complain. The official release comes out when the software is finished and sounds more your speed.

Liking iOS 10 so far.
But I still find it odd that Night Shift gets so much prime screen real estate in control center.
I'd prefer it be 1/2 or even 1/4 the size then add some other shortcuts (a couple example that come to mind:
Remove the settings app icon from the homescreen and put a shortcut here instead.
Share the space with brightness/sound controls
Show the WiFi name & bluetooth device(s) connected to.

Really almost anything would be more useful to me, if Night-Shift needs that much space, maybe it should be moved to the second page where music controls presently are. I set my Night-shift settings then don't touch it after that, but perhaps it is a more prominent need for other people to quickly see and access it?

Is it me or the Music sound quality got better?

Well, maybe it's just that I washed my ears... haha... No, but seriously, I had the feeling today that music on my earpods sounded better. Strange...
