But I have been wondering about the dark mode, why, what are the savings or the advantages without oled screens?

Here is another scenario:
Apple releases 3 iPhones :
-iPhone 7 with 4.7 inch ips and 2001x1125 res or 1704x960, starting at 16gb.
-iPhone 7 plus with 5.5 inch ips , 2208x1242 res, dual camera, 3gb, starting at 32gb.
-iPhone 7 pro with smartconnector , dual camera and 5.8 inch oled and 2560x1440 res, and in-screen homebutton, 4gb, with split-screen . For a lot of $$$$$, starting at 64gb.

For a lot of $$$$$ is not an option. There has to be a reasonable price. even for Apple.

Quite.

For reading, the best thing is still black text on a lighter background, but Ive had to make iOS garishly white. What we need is a nice olive background as a default for the background, so it doesn't glare. White works for real paper, but not for computer screens.

I believe studies show white text on black background stress the eyes less as less light enters the eyes allowing for less work for the eyes to focus.

Dark mode on Mac is weak. I think what most want (and what I have done myself with jailbreak tweaks) is have white backgrounds be darker and still have visible fonts with little to no contrast. (Ex. Black back background with 30% gray front)

I'm not jailbroken now, but I do use the zoom accessibility function on iOS to dim my screen more than you normally can as a solution. I know what I mentioned before might sound tough, but I sure hope it comes to Mac and iOS.

Yes, but they want to get their asp' s up. With the introduction of the iPhone SE and the rumors of the 32gb base, they have to do something else . They will try to " seduce" us with different mem configs for each of the three and give you the idea that with only 50 bucks more, you get a much better deal. The pro and the 32gb configs are ideal for doing this or they could just drop the plus model and go straightaway for a pro.

For example(just an example to show what I mean, people, don' t get hung up on the prices)

A 16gb iPhone 7 for 649, a 64 for 749, 128gb for 849 and 256 gb for 949.
A 32 gb iPhone 7 plus will be 799 us, and a 128gb 7 plus will be 899, 256gb will be 999
They could introduce a 32gb iPhone 7 pro at 849 us , 128gb will be 949 and a 256 gb 1049.

You want an iPhone 7, 64 gb is too much, 16 gb too little. So a 64gb will be 749, but for 50 us more you can get a 32gb 7+ , So you start considering 7 plus. Then you realize that for 50 us more than the 32gb plus, you can get a 32gb pro.
You start considering this.... Etc, etc. it is like the iPad Air 2 and the iPad Pro. The same will happen with the iPhone.
It is just like buying a car with accessories, etc.

Dark mode is being saved for iOS 11 can't release too many new things at once and we would have seen betas testing already. It's a nice thought but Apples not ready yet.

Awesome feature to bring into the phone's eco system. The split screen feature..hmm not too sure about that but why not? I hope this year's WWDC isn't a bunch of convenient additions and portray it as a huge hoopla.

That looks nice. Didn't really give much thought into a dark mode setting for iPhone but now WANT IT!!!!
GET IT DONE TIM AND MY WALLET IS YOURS!!!!!

iOS upgrades are free though. You can give me your wallet, if you want to give it to someone that badly. :p

Yes, dark mode would look awesome.

I agree. The option to turn it on an off would be great. Users could turn it on when on a plane or other dark place. I would assume this will save the battery as the iPhone does not have to display the bright screen.

No betas??? Hasn't even been announced yet lol!!!

Why do haters come hate on a Mac site. You ALL have the option to switch if YOU don't like what Apple has to offer. You all act like you're being FORCED to be here. The internet sometimes.....

matte black iphone with glowing oled apple logo able to show variety of colours for different notifications.
Coloured led notifications are one of my favourite Android features, I wish Apple would implement something like this in a near future.
Hopefully not the whole Apple logo:D

if apple introduces split screen I imagine it will be on the Plus only. Split screen on my 9.7 inch iPad is not that great for a while like someone said. Not sure how useful it will be on a 5.5 screen.

Tim Cook: We've revolutionized darkness. Never before has there been a screen so dark and contrasty. Here's Jony Ivy to tell you about the passion and creativity behind Dark Mode in an 18 minute video.

Tim Cook: Dark Mode will be available this September with the release of iOS 10.
*Dark mode only available on iPhone 7 Plus Pro and iPad Pro.

I don't really know exactly how OLED's work, I know they turn off to show black.. But the interface won't be deep black, more like grey-ish. Does that saves power anyways?

Why tap three buttons when you can just tap one? Plus Airplane Mode turns off GPS.
It does not turn off gps... And you can't tap one as that is not an option in control center. If you want to turn off just the cellular radio on an iPad, you can easily do that with airplane mode and turning back on wifi and Bluetooth.

split screen on an iPhone ? ok.... kind of still small device, as it makes more sense on 9.7-inch display.

Split-screen would still be useful if u can do any apps, not just the ones Apple wants u to split view.

actually didn't realise i wanted this until now. I love the dark mode in OSX and iOS really could look slick and more manly with this on. Most people i know turn the screen brightness all the way down and i think in part it's due to iOS looking so darn bright.

Wow! I am so excited about this! I mean, dark mode? I think only Apple could have thought of this..this is why I only ever use Apple products..they just feel revolutionary! First they had a light mode and at night, it hits my eyes because its all so white..I guess it really also shows how diverse Apple is becoming as a company. Reducing the white and bringing in the dark..so easy on the eyes!

I really didn't realise I wanted it till now. Till Apple told me I can have it. I really wish Apple would stop innovating so quickly as it makes it harder to keep up with all the change and empties my bank account all the time.

I hope this puts to rest once and for all the argument about which is better, iOS or Android.
