Does this include active iOS devices that can't install it? Like my iPad 3 retina?

no your IPAD3 will not update to OS 10 at first it was on list to update then Apple must had too many problems cause the programmers not doing their job with testing so it got pull for OS 10 the OS 9 will be the last OS for that device then if the App that one uses needs the most current OS you will be out of luck. i was not to happy about this. $1000 product no good after 3-4 years. lol

Yeah this is honestly not impressive anymore. Not when Apple is forcing you to update. But that's business strategy like everything else.

Yes because the average consumer obviously complains here on MacRumors about every single update.

same with the average developer. lol

Have you ever met a person who tried to resist? They tend to be angry with Apple with all the Upgrade Now alerts. Then they give in.

I'm worried. I don't want to install iOS 11, because I know performance on my 6S will degrade, but I don't want to deal with this pop-up either for the remainder of time I'm using this handset. If the next iPhone is 7S, then that's going to be at least another year.

I believe those alerts can be disabled through iCloud.

You can delete the download in the iCloud & Storage menu in settings, but it will redownload itself sooner or later. The internet says you also have to turn off automatic downloads in the App Store settings too.

I wish I could downgrade back to iOS 9 on my iPad Mini.

iOS 10 made it almost unusable at times, especially Safari.

It is now so laggy, and the screen goes totally white when scrolling in Safari. The recent updates made the lagginess slightly better, but the iPad Mini was much more solid on older iOS 8 and 9.

I really wish we knew WHY the performance of iOS degrades so much when you go +2 iOS versions on your hardware.

It's not like they're adding tons and tons of new background services for each release (I wouldn't think).

iOS 10.2 is pretty stable. Why wouldn't you upgrade? curious

only supports IPAD4 and up they had IPAD3 on release and like i said the programmers were not doing their job with good testing so they came back a day later and changed the list removed IPAD3 that's what i mean by OS cycling out if you ever owned the first few products you will know that once they hit a point then the OS will not update per system requirements the fact is yes the product will work and yes Apple will support the OS just try find some App's still using that OS or can run with that OS good luck. the fact is i let updates get test by the lab rats so i don't update until after i see no apparent problems then i update have for many years works great however with the past 2 yrs things have changed at Apple as mentioned above by others about forcing updates now what does that sound like? think. windows yep the same ole crap windows pulls update in middle of night with out asking one. this happen to my iphone6 plus when i have auto set to NO yep so one thinking as if it's like my mac just restore to previous backup with previous OS system well IPHONE does not work that way after 2 hours and consulting with Apple... geez

I'd expect it to be higher with the constant pop up spam! Which you can't stop
I smash it down on my iPad minis without even thinking about it anymore. I have no plans to upgrade them to iOS 10 anytime soon.

It amuses me sometimes when people complain of 'planned obsolescence' in the context of iOS updates. It's entirely obvious that, over time, all software places a larger burden on the hardware on which it runs. It gets more complex. Features are added. Graphical fidelity improves.

If this were not the case, none of you heroes would now need a 50Ghz Swan Lake i8 and 512GB of DDR12 in your MacBook Pro.

I don't think iOS 10 is buggy, but makes everything so slow on my iPad Mini. To be fair though, I hardly use my Mini now due to how bad Safari is on it. So, I guess I might not be using it enough to see bugs.

Which iPad mini do you have? I'm assuming a 2 or 3. I had a mini 2 at one point and found using safari on it painful even when it was brand new and running iOS 7. The 1 GB of ram never really seemed up to the task of web browsing at 2048x1536.

hmm, i wonder what caused this 13% to update...
We were forced to update by Apple and various vendors otherwise I'd still be on iOS 8.4.1.
My bank, car insurance, Apple Store app, stopped working in iOS 8. Then I had to install a hack so my Mac Pro 1,1 could run El Capitan and I was force to buy another video card.
Yeah right apple, no cost to updating to iOS 10.

This constantly downloading in the background and then pop-up showing that an update is available for install with NO options to say NO.
It has become a routine already: Pop-up > lock phone > unlock phone > pop-up disappears > Go to settings, General, Storage & iCloud Usage, Manage Storage > Delete iOS 10.whatever > Restart phone to get rid of the little red circle with the number in settings icon.
How many times do I have to do this before Apple understands that the update is NOT WANTED?!
This is like having someone constantly breaking into your house to poop on the floor and then asks you do you want the poop to be thrown up to the fan.

I know you're not asking me but I have the first retina mini that came out...whatever number that was, and a one year old mini 4 running 9.3.5. Initially when I first got the mini 4 it ran smoothly and handled even ad infested web pages easily. At some point as iOS 9 was being upgraded it started bogging down just like my old mini that is still in use, also running 9.3.5, I think. Now I often get the "A problem occurred. This webpage was reloaded" notice on most sites. It crashes a fair amount on different apps.

My SE has an earlier version of iOS 10. It doesn't have a lot of crashes but the camera app lags and it runs kind of choppy compared to how smoothly it ran on the last version of iOS 9. I need to get it update to the latest version of 10 and see if that helps.

My iPhone 7 Plus is on the latest iOS 10 and I've had a couple of app crashes on it so far but overall it doesn't seem to lag or struggle yet.

At this point I really am torn between Nougat on my HTC 10 and iOS 10 on my iPhone 7. They have their pros and cons. I like a few key features better on iOS: iMessage, news app, the alarm interface.

Well said...all of it. Especially agree with Slide to Unlock. I can learn to live with things being different on my iPhone but I do not like anything about iOS 10 for my iPad minis.

It's worth complaining to your local consumer advocate, legal office and to Apple. In my opinion, software updates, that make a device not work properly, and which can not be rolled back, is effectively the same as purchasing a faulty product or one that has broken due to manufacturer fault. You should expect a replacement or refund.

Odd, I can't remember ever having such a problem free experience with iOS. Even the later betas of iOS 10 were better than any version of iOS 9. And don't even get me started on iOS 8...

Exactly. iOS 10 is rock solid for me since beta 5 or so.
Really bad were iOS 7 then 8 and then 9 i think.

Have you ever met a person who tried to resist? They tend to be angry with Apple with all the Upgrade Now alerts. Then they give in.

I believe those alerts can be disabled through iCloud.

Perhaps because your device bugs the crap out of you until you update it? That might be a factor. If you could just permanently ignore them that would be one thing.

Most people I know who've updated either did it accidentally or because they got pissed off at the aggravating daily reminders. Hardly an achievement for Apple to crow about.

What's the percentage of people that updated because they got tired of being harassed to update everyday?

Yup, they'll make it sound like everyone is soooo happy to be on iOS10 when in actuality some are strong armed into it. Sort of reminds of a dictatorship where EVERYONE will be at the parade and will be happy to see their glorious leader.

From what i know, that is false. You can delete the update in storage options and the damn thing will just redownload itself. Apple doesnt realize some of us dont want to upgrade, and redownloading it CONSTANTLY eats our capped wifi at home. It will ask if i want to upgrade i say no then it asks if i want to do it at 3am while im sleeping. Ive fallen for that one personally and am annoyed with it.

I mean, I'm not surprised, considering they harass you with spam alerts to force you to upgrade.

Most likely because they all got fed off of the huge splash screen telling them to update NOW every time they unlocked their devices, and then having to input their pins just to get rid of it after clicking 'no' and 'update later' and 'are you sure?' 5000 times.....

I think iOS10 is one of their buggiest releases so far.

Yeah, Apple should have a 'don't remind me again' option.
While one can disable via iCloud, it shouldn't have to resort to that.
So much for user experience.

Yeah, it asks you daily... and if you say NO it has a follow up question to do it at night. Maybe Apple could get that adoption number higher if IOS asked you EVERY 20 MINUTES instead. They tout it as an achievement, but they make it almost impossible to NOT upgrade. And yes, many do it accidentally. Or dare i say "tricked" into it like when App store wants to upgrade to a new OSX by making it look like a software update.

Make a (bleep)ing COMPUTER !!!! THAT would be an achievement for the Apple executives.

Mine is the iPad Mini 2. It behaves as if it has RAM issues, although it was great on the latest iOS 9.

It has worked great before. But, iOS 10 ruined it. Hopefully an update will fix it.

DON'T DO IT! I remember iOS 8 running great on my mini 2, don't upgrade to 10, I bet you will regret it.
