Terrible. Apple really is doomed. Steve honestly would never have let this happen. This isn't the first time. Bring back Scott Forstall.

iPhone 6s 128GB DFU'ed on first attempt using OTA (1.1GB); iTunes restored to 9.3.5 everything intact. Trying the 10.0.1 update that iTunes says is available (2.3GB) though iTunes keeps popping up with an 'Unable to connect to iCloud Music Library" which is a bit disconcerting.

iPad Mini 3 updated smoothly OTA however.

Remember the time when there were 80% fewer devices out there? Yeah, those times coincide. Perfect software never happens.
numbers don't matter, there were already millions of iOS devices before this update even existed. Ther have been other more stable releases where the numbers of devices was already huge. Once the sample gets to that point it becomes more or less the same in terms of % expecting an issue.

Strange because many of us did the GM upgrade from the PB and used OTA and there was no problem. It will be interesting to see what the RCA shows.
actually had this problem on my 6s updating to the gm via itunes, tried 3 times til i decided to go back to ios 9

Some of us are complacent because we have never had an issue with OTA. This is my first time ever having any issues with an iOS device update. So that is why we "risk" it. And the option isn't always available. For me, I am away from my computer, I never had an issue as I mentioned, so I bit and took the risk...

I remember I had my first iPhone before I had my first computer. Nowadays that is less common but it is still something they would need to consider... Especially from those consumers who aren't tech savvy, and have no idea how to reboot and restore their products.

I definitely agree this is going to be a headache for the everyday consumer. Hopefully they can get it resolved before it reaches the masses. I'm just surprised to see so many people on here no updating through iTunes.

Downloaded iTunes onto my work PC and tried and update route before I tried the restore route. iTunes downloaded 10.0.1 and I just had to update luckily so I didn't lose any data.

shut up theres clearly a problem too many users reporting it noob

Yeah, that was my point. Update problems and iOS are pretty familiar to see in the same sentence now. Wait to update and let the superfans get bricked.

How the mighty have fallen...

Why would you do a big update on your office? lol
I don't even do small ones outside my apt.

Haha. It is funny, were in tech so everyone of course is excited. It's scary, because people need their phones to take calls. and I know with ATT to forward you need to call and spend 20minutes with them to forward then drop the forward later. just makes it a little messy.

5S 64Gb OTA - no issue installing the update - good luck for the bricked ones ... " How can you have any pudding if you don't eat your meat!"

I'm currently upgrading both my iPhone 6s and iPad Pro (9.7"), and they both are requiring connecting to iTunes. I've connected the iPad and iTunes informed me there is a problem that will require a software download OR if that doesn't work - a factory reset.... this isn't looking promising!!

Update: connecting the iPad to my computer and re-installing iOS 10 from there seems to have worked.... now for the iPhone.

iPad (Air 2) updated fine over WiFi. iPhone (6S) needs a restore. No great disaster, though. Certainly not "bricked" because it can be restored with a visit to iTunes.

In all my years of being a Fan Boi I've never had a device bricked because of an update...well that ended today 9-13-16

IPad Pro Bricked

NOTES
What's happening?
The OTA update version might be corrupted. The update will download completely, verify prior to install, go into the Apple update screen, then crash into the "Plug into iTunes" screen. The update bar went as far as about 75% - 80%.

Who is affected?
So far, only iPad Pros, iPhone 6S / S+ and iPhone SEs have complained of corrupt installs. All of those who have complained used OTA updates, so it may affect more.

What do I do?
1.) DO NOT USE OTA UPDATES - it's the most common culprit in the bunch. Avoid it like the plague.
2.) IF YOU ARE UPDATING, USE USB + iTUNES. Those who have been successful have used the iTunes download. Slower, but working.
3.) IF YOU ARE BRICKED - Plug into iTunes and use "Update" to clear out your problem. You don't need to do a full restore, thankfully. I've done a simple update and everything worked swimmingly.

Yes both my iPhone 6s and my iPad Pro 9.7" are both requiring me to plug into iTunes after trying the OTA update. Wish I had know this was happening. Will see how it goes trying to get things back.
