Yes, this is the perfect time and place to argue semantics.
Why would you do a big update on your office? lolDon't say "SOME" phones are bricking. Everyone who did the OTA update in my office has it bricked. There is currently a line for lighting cable/itunes use.
edit: my pro won't restore through iTunes. off to Apple store.
If it can be restored, it's obviously not "bricked."
Problem wasn't there with the GM beta
OTA update on my iPad Pro 9.7 from 9.3.5 put it into recovery...I wonder how many of us did not update to iOS 9.3.5 and if that us the cause?
I'm bricked and have clicked "update" on iTunes several times.it does nothing for a while then the same message pops up again.am i forced to click restore?anyone please help
Even if it's temporary, it renders the device unusable. And it most certainly is bricked if someone doesn't have access to a computer to do a restore.
Some of us are complacent because we have never had an issue with OTA. This is my first time ever having any issues with an iOS device update. So that is why we "risk" it. And the option isn't always available. For me, I am away from my computer, I never had an issue as I mentioned, so I bit and took the risk...I know the OTA option is available, but why would you try it knowing the risk and knowing that a better option is available? Also, I sure hope all of you are backing up your devices before trying to install..
Step 1: Plug in device
Step 2: Back up to iTunes
Step 3: While still connected to iTunes, check for updates
Step 4: Install

NOTES
What's happening?
The OTA update version might be corrupted. The update will download completely, verify prior to install, go into the Apple update screen, then crash into the "Plug into iTunes" screen. The update bar went as far as about 75% - 80%.
Who is affected?
So far, only iPad Pros, iPhone 6S / S+ and iPhone SEs have complained of corrupt installs. All of those who have complained used OTA updates, so it may affect more.
What do I do?
1.) DO NOT USE OTA UPDATES - it's the most common culprit in the bunch. Avoid it like the plague.
2.) IF YOU ARE UPDATING, USE USB + iTUNES. Those who have been successful have used the iTunes download. Slower, but working.
3.) IF YOU ARE BRICKED - Plug into iTunes and use "Update" to clear out your problem. You don't need to do a full restore, thankfully. I've done a simple update and everything worked swimmingly.
What is it with this company??? They've done enough beta testing so what do they they do to cause this and why do they release an update they should have tested so thoroughly that this should not happen. One feels this is now a company that just doesn't give a damn as long as those tills keep giving them those coins!
