Apple said "Make backup before install news software version" why the people don't do it???

If the install is 7 to 8, 8 to 9 and 9 to 10 make backup... between 9 to 9.1 is not necessary....

Or making clean install...

You are install different version software...

Not that doesnt surprise me - Android really is a mess right now and...wait, what?

But I thought that only Apple, that designs both hardware AND software can make both work perfectly together!

Don't say "SOME" phones are bricking. Everyone who did the OTA update in my office has it bricked. There is currently a line for lighting cable/itunes use.

edit: my pro won't restore through iTunes. off to Apple store.
Why would you do a big update on your office? lol
I don't even do small ones outside my apt.

Strange because many of us did the GM upgrade from the PB and used OTA and there was no problem. It will be interesting to see what the RCA shows.

I think it is safe to say 6s devices and iPad pro devices were the only ones with this issue. None of my friends with iPhone 6 or iPad air devices had this issue.

I'm bricked and have clicked "update" on iTunes several times.it does nothing for a while then the same message pops up again.am i forced to click restore?anyone please help

I keep hitting update rather than restore. Might be failing because of server overload. I refuse to hit restore. For now.

I used to have issue doing iTunes update with 9.3 onwards with iPad Pro 9.7".

But today I updated my iPad Pro and iPhone 6s+ using iTunes and it went smoothly.

I would recommend those using iPad Pro to update using iTunes instead of OTA

I know the OTA option is available, but why would you try it knowing the risk and knowing that a better option is available? Also, I sure hope all of you are backing up your devices before trying to install..

Step 1: Plug in device
Step 2: Back up to iTunes
Step 3: While still connected to iTunes, check for updates
Step 4: Install
Some of us are complacent because we have never had an issue with OTA. This is my first time ever having any issues with an iOS device update. So that is why we "risk" it. And the option isn't always available. For me, I am away from my computer, I never had an issue as I mentioned, so I bit and took the risk...

I remember I had my first iPhone before I had my first computer. Nowadays that is less common but it is still something they would need to consider... Especially from those consumers who aren't tech savvy, and have no idea how to reboot and restore their products.

Step 3 worked thanks for the update....

Copied this from another user in the other thread:

NOTES
What's happening?
The OTA update version might be corrupted. The update will download completely, verify prior to install, go into the Apple update screen, then crash into the "Plug into iTunes" screen. The update bar went as far as about 75% - 80%.

Who is affected?
So far, only iPad Pros, iPhone 6S / S+ and iPhone SEs have complained of corrupt installs. All of those who have complained used OTA updates, so it may affect more.

What do I do?
1.) DO NOT USE OTA UPDATES - it's the most common culprit in the bunch. Avoid it like the plague.
2.) IF YOU ARE UPDATING, USE USB + iTUNES. Those who have been successful have used the iTunes download. Slower, but working.
3.) IF YOU ARE BRICKED - Plug into iTunes and use "Update" to clear out your problem. You don't need to do a full restore, thankfully. I've done a simple update and everything worked swimmingly.

What is it with this company??? They've done enough beta testing so what do they they do to cause this and why do they release an update they should have tested so thoroughly that this should not happen. One feels this is now a company that just doesn't give a damn as long as those tills keep giving them those coins!

The odd thing is, the betas and the GM release were great. I'm running the GM from last week and have had no problems whatsoever.

meh on the restore. It's not a biggie. Not like your phone is really bricked. If you can restore your device from a computer and backup from the cloud you're fine.

But...

I feel for the people doing it at work and don't have access to their personal itunes in the office. If they're in restore they're also without a phone now going into rush hour(s). That's gonna sting pretty hard. Especially with kids, events, and such after work.

Had this happen to me yesterday twice going from 9.3.5 on a brand new out-of-the-box iPad Pro 12.9 using the iOS10 Beta Profile. Managed to upgrade it later doing an Xcode+iTunes update using the IPSW.

So for you it's everyone, but for many others, no issue. Everyone in your office still doesn't make up a single percentage of total iPhone users.

I'm on my sixth and final OTA run for office phones, and not a single one has had an issue. I expected one, but think i may be proven wrong.
