after seeing this issue, i updated iTunes, made a backup and performed the update through iTunes, no issues.

My iPad Pro 12.9 updated OTA with zero issues. Took about 40 minutes start to finish. It would appear as though they resolved the scrolling refresh issue with Safari on the iPad Pro with this update - yay!

So far my efforts to restore my iPhone 6 have failed with the message:
The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error has occurred (12).
:-(((

Look at music! Go to songs, they are arranged by Artist instead of Alphabetically by songs. This is driving me nuts.

I updated OTA to 10.0.1 without any issues from 9.3.5 a week ago with the Developer Beta Profile on my 6s.

No issues.

This may be mumbo jumbo or people being stupid.

Definitely not mumbo jumbo. My 6s+ downloaded the update over the air, it looked normal while updating, then I see the connect to iTunes message. Nothing odd about my phone. No jailbreaks. It was on 9.3.5 when I started.

iOS 10.0.1 download via iTunes to restore recovery mode 6s crashed out at 1.8GB of 2.1GB. Now restarting at 0.9MB a second on a 40Mbit fibre link...

This is not good Apple.

Nailed me on the update. Oh well. Will have to wait until I get home where I have access to iTunes to do the restore. So no iPhone for a few hours.

Ah, but I can try to do the update on my iPad now. Won't it be funny if the update bricks that device as well?

P!SS poor response for those who have had their devices disabled.

Seems that's your response to everyone replying to you. I feel like maybe you need someone to hold your hand through this traumatizing event. Or maybe just curl up in a ball and cry? That's about the only other thing I can think of to help you. God's speed, Sir.

Same happened with my wife's 6s, however, the restore and reload of iOS 10 worked the second time no problem. Had no issues with our other devices.

im not backed up (I'm super upset but obviously its my own fault) but my iTunes wasn't up to date so I'm updating that first then i will plug it back in and see what happens?before resorting to restore
If you download iTunes 12.5.1, it should tell you the update failed and it'll ask you if you want to update, restore, or cancel. Select the update button. My wife was able to get iOS 10 this way AND keep all of her settings using update rather than restore.

My wife had a iPhone running 9.3.5 that bricked using over the air and the above steps got her up and running.

This happens every year doesn't it?

Well at least it's better than having an exploding phone.

I thought mine had bricked (6+) as I just got a black screen after installation, but I did a 2-button hard reset, the Apple logo appeared and after the progress bar finished, it booted into iOS 10. Was nervous there for a few... whew.

some of my IOS devices got stuck in recovery while updating to gm. Just try updating from iTunes, nothing will be lost.

Turn off Purify and any other VPN you might be using before trying an OTA update.

I'd been having issues with OTA installs sending my phone into recovery mode on iOS 9 updates. An Apple tech noticed I had Purify on my phone and suggested it might be preventing Apple from signing the security certificate, thus sending the phone into recovery mode.

I've been uninstalling Purify prior to updating and my problems have disappeared. Easy update today about an hour after release.

Millions? LOL

Actually this could be possible to calculate using numbers of devices, which can update and then take a number of adoption rate of iOS 9 for a first few hours and compare it to iOS 10 with a certain % error of course. Considering how many devices are iOS 10 capable and high adoption rate among many users, I don't think the number will be low. Or do you have any evidence it is much less?

You got lucky, when I did that I just got the plug into iTunes graphic.

My 6s Plus got bricked as part of the update. When I connected to iTunes it wants to "upgrade" to iOS 9.2.5, which I assume will fail. It looks like I'll need to do a restore.

I really wish Apple would test their releases.

I noticed there was an iTunes update. After updating iTunes it's now downloading the 10.0.1 update. Hopefully I can upgrade to that without having to restore.

So are we just admitting that the word 'bricked' has lost all meaning?

Forget the comments, it's even being used wrong in the article itself.
Yep, it apparently is now a suitable replacement for "temporarily inconvenienced". I remember when "bricked" meant it will never work again and you might as well disassemble it to recycle the parts. The followup phrase used back then to explain it to those with the quizzical looks was, "it has essentially turned into a lump of clay."
