Been at the apple store an hour already. This cost me business today, this prevented me from communicating with my child's daycare, this prevented me from trading stocks, this prevented me from transferring money, this prevented me from responding to important emails, Apple needs to remember there are real world people dependent on these phones. Not to mention the medical apps doctors and patients use to track medications etc. This isn't just someone sitting at home in front of an iMac who runs into an issue updating. This is people without a macbook or iMac, at work, in the field, on a plane, wherever they are, and it's a major problem.

Started updating my iPhone 6s Plus, then launched it on iPad Pro and iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2. Feeling all hyped up to show the family members some new stuff and then... See the recovery info on iPad Pro which updated first... Then the same on 6s Plus...

First thought... oh **** - I just "bricked" all the devices in our household:-D

To much luck - iPhone 6 and iPad Air 2 finished the updates and my mom continued with her stuff as usual...

To cut the story short: just successfully finished update of my 6s Plus using iTunes. iPad Pro was first which was recovered.

Glad that all ended up fine. Will be more careful next time. Maybe:-D

p.s. Don't worry everybody. Use updated iTunes (if you have one!). No data should be lost.
p.s.2 I found out that people experience the same problems during iOS 10 beta updates... No good Apple, no good...

Hm, I tried updating iTunes to 12.5.1 through MAS but it seems like it didn't.. It still displays 12.4 and when I press "Check for updates" and get taken to the updates tab, nothing shows up.. Does anyone else have this? Tried rebooting my Mac aswell with no success.

My 6s bricked and it will not allow me to restore from an iTunes download (I have the latest iTunes update). Looks like I have to full restore now because of Apple's inadequacy. Absolutely ridiculous. I might go Android next time I get a phone based on all of these issues Apple is having lately.

100% agreed

No need to restore from a backup. Fire up iTunes, connect your phone to your computer and you'll get prompted to update your phone, along with the option to restore from a backup in case the update goes wrong. That's what I did, twice actually (the OTA update failed, as did my first attempt to update via iTunes).

I am so tired of their damn apologies. Do it right the first time! Somethings gotta give over there.

shocking. im shocked /sarc. Apple is incapabale these days of releasing an OS update without fubar issues left and right.
hold on to your hats folks, its going to be a long and sucky turn around. Ive lived through ot with Apple, msft, ibm. Their focus and capabilities are completely fractured.

You are such an apologist... It is disgusting.

I love you people who label random folks on the internet based off of a sentence or two. I'm not saying the update issue isn't a problem, but blowing up a forum with child-like whining isn't necessary. And, if I were an apologist in any way, I would find that less disgusting than someone who can't get through a little tech issue without crying and moaning like someone just killed their mother.

This is why I do any major updates through iTunes, plus it doesn't keep the junk files from previous versions of iOS if you do this. I only OTA x.x.1 updates, but anything major, such as an x.1 or a jump from 9.x.x to 10.0, i do through iTunes.

Both my 6S Plus and Pro 9.7 got stuck on the iTunes screen and after a few tries I was able to update properly with iTunes and everything is smooth now. It was a scary 2 hours though.

Updated to iOS 10 and it went to version 10.0.1... iPhone 6 in the Bahamas works fine... Took a while to download and install but is working fine...

So much fun, my and my grandfather's iPhone SEs are knocked out. #mostAdvancedOperatingSystem
OTA update from the latest iOS. ATM trying to fix it through iTunes 5 hours remaining.

Then you should obviously update your phone at a time when it's not needed for those things. You didn't have to update the second the update was available.

Just updated my 6+ and 12" iPad Pro with no problems but it was connected with USB to new iTunes. I never, ever, never, ever, never, ever, never, ever, never, ever update the OS OTA. It's an accident waiting to happen.

Careful the Cult of Apple will label you as nothing more than a whiner. And it looks like that party has started.

Yes, that's what did it. Spending time working on Emojis.

Amazing what people believe.

Do you think that's what I think is the reason? Sarcasm. It's most likely something to do with Apple's CDN or servers in general or editing the GM with some untested code as it has been done in the past. Of course people in QA do not develop emojis, I was sarcastically commenting on the general approach the company is taking - i.e. more fails similar to this one, no focus on quality hardware etc. Better now?

If your phone is really this important, why did you do a major software update before it was tested at all?

I agree, its a terrible situation, but you should be smarter than that. The issue was fixed within an hour or two of release, maybe wait next time to make sure this doesn't happen?
