Just curious - what iPhone are you using?

I'm on an iPhone 6+ with AT&T...

It seemed stuck with a full progress bar from having finished installing when I started this post. Then the screen changed to just black with the backlight still on. Tapped the home button just now. Suddenly there's another Apple on the screen and another progress bar... will update momentarily to say what happens...

And it's done. Going into Settings > Software Update says I have iOS 10.0.1. Kind of odd. What happened to iOS 10.0.0?

Same, 6+ on AT&T.

You get stickers earlier than everyone else :D

I'm pretty sure one of them is a gold star.

aww yiss!

AppleInsider has spoken with Apple regarding the matter and was told that support personnel were already looking into the problem. We were told that the problem may be related to a timed-out download as a result of ISP issues in conjunction with Apple software distribution system loads.

there you go... probably not a software issue.

So, the verification process said there was no problem. So, is that step just BS screen to make use feel better about the OTA update file?

Apologies if this has already been discussed, but it appears that for some people pressing "update" in iTunes after the "brick" seems to fix the issue, for others it doesn't. Any idea why that is?
Might the latest iTunes update play a role in this?

Downloaded OTA and got the 1271 restore error. I had to throw it into restore mode by holding down the home and power button and releasing the power button. Just like the old days when jailbreaking.

I ended up having to restore from scratch and my icloud restore is downloading now. Not the end of the world, just annoying.

Do you need to update to iTunes 12.5.1 first? I'm still running 12.5.0 and am getting an error message that it can't complete the update...!

My 6s got "bricked" doing the OTA update. On the iTunes logo. Looks like I am able to download the update through iTunes but it'll take some time.

My iPad Mini 4 update went OTA and went swmmingly. It has some bugs I've noticed, though, but the OS is running fine in general.

Even if it's temporary, it renders the device unusable. And it most certainly is bricked if someone doesn't have access to a computer to do a restore.

no, I'm pretty certain the history of the term bricked means that an electric component's been rendered useless to the point were it's only remaining use is as a brick to hold upon a door.

in this case, your $600 phone is not worthless. The whole apple update thing is not doubt a problem and unconvinced, but it there is a solution.

And the response:

Updated the second it was available OTA. Mistake. Took four attempts to restore and now restoring data from iCloud. Should have done it via iTunes. Second time this has happened over the history of iOS updates. :(

[doublepost=1473789127][/doublepost]Both my iPhone 6S Plus and iPad Pro 12.9" were bricked by the iOS 10 upgrade.

I am BLOWN AWAY that people here still upgrade when Apple releases something new.

Apple has been bricking devices for years now.

Keynote is finally usable after years of painful crashing.

Are people here hypnotized in some way?

What am I missing?

well upgraded perfectly on iphone 6, but top of my phone that shows carrier and batter is missing.

Apple's response is to do the update through iTunes ... if you don't own a computer how the hell can you update your iPhone or iPad through iTunes? Is that clear enough for you?

I understand that. I don't see how that's relevant, though. Just because Apple said the iPad Pro can replace your laptop doesn't mean you should throw it out the window.

Just did an OTA for my iPhone 6 Plus, and it didn't "brick", so it might only be affecting specific models, i'm guessing.

Btw iOS 10 just sucks, Apple totally dropped the ball with this update, it's filled with gimmicks. Looking forward to a proper update in iOS 11.

It's gimmicky and pointless but it grows on you.

We're stuck with this UI for probably 2 years.

My wife hit update at 10:01 AM PDT this morning and her phone was bricked. iPhone 6s Plus that was running 9.3.5. Luckily I was able to guide her through the iTunes+USB update process over the home phone and she's up and running. She missed her morning event though so not exactly the most convenient issue. Worried to tell my other family and friends to update...

Hope your phone is backed up! Most likely will have to put into dfu mode and restore. Shouldn't be so bad if you can restore from backup.
im not backed up (I'm super upset but obviously its my own fault) but my iTunes wasn't up to date so I'm updating that first then i will plug it back in and see what happens?before resorting to restore

That doesn't sound plausible. iOS checks the hash of the downloaded firmware files before updating (or at least that's what it's supposed to do). If it allowed flashing corrupted files, that would be a huge flaw.

The new iOS 10 update, released today, appears to be causing problems for some iPad and iPhone owners who are installing it over-the-air. On the MacRumors forums, we're seeing multiple reports from users who have attempted to install iOS 10 and have had their devices put into recovery mode, requiring a restore.

ios10-800x585.jpg

It does not seem to be limited to a single device, but most reports from iPad owners are coming from those who have the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which has had trouble with new software releases in the past. Multiple iPhone models also appear to be affected, including the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6, and iPhone SE. From MacRumors forum member bit_bucket: Users who have their iOS 10 devices bricked by the update may need to do an iTunes restore if the update fails, which will erase all data. Some users have had their iPhones updated successfully through iTunes after the over-the-air update has failed and haven't needed to restore, but it has not been successful for other users. Here's the message users are receiving:In light of the installation issues some users are facing, those who are concerned about their devices being sent into recovery mode and bricked should hold off on downloading the iOS 10 update over the air for the time being until more information can be uncovered.

It appears iOS 10 installs through iTunes are not affected, so that remains a viable method for obtaining the iOS 10 update today. Ahead of installing iOS 10, either over the air or through iTunes, a backup should be made.

Update:Apple has given a statement on the issue that caused the iOS 10 update to fail over the air, and says it has now been fixed.

"We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability. The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help.
