My iPad pro 9.7 did it. So (perhaps stupidly) I am giving the OTA a second try right now. (And I do have a backup).

Update: The second OTA update on the 9.7 Pro went fine.

Happened to my co-worker today. Luckily, I have my Macbook here to restore him back to the older version. He was PISSED because he thought he lost everyday...glad he backup using iCloud often.

So I just updated one phone so far, my 6s and it worked. My wife is updating her work phone (6s) right now, and her personal phone/both our iPads I will wait until later.....one thing I noticed right out of the gate was that touch ID wasn't working at all when I tried to unlock it so I had to delete my fingerprints and start from scratch, after putting in a new fingerprint it now works. Weird. So far, though, I managed to survive the bricking....

Wow... this is ridiculous. How many Beta releases where there? How many public pre-release betas were there? Is this still Apple? Or did the Microsoft team responsible for Vista somehow found a new home on the iOS development team?

WTF is going on with Apple's quality control in their software? Ever since iOS 7, it has really gone down the toilet (7.0 was a disaster on iPads). You'd think with the public beta program, things would go more smoothly. But the iOS 9.3 launch was also plagued by bugs. Sad to see things slide so badly in the last few years.

Tim Cook and several other changes happened that's what!
I think I've mentioned it several times before, iOS is the ONLY PRODUCT APPLE ACTUALLY MAKES ITSELF! And it can't even get that right! They literally have NO excuse for the string of mess ups they make with every major iOS releases now year after year...

I seriously suggest people shut up about Android updates, especially Apple, because iOS is consistently breaking devices in every major release now.

I wouldn't worry though, my 6S has it and it's not exactly amazing, the keyboard seems to have changed and is incredibly sensitive now?

To all those who have updated to iOS 10 after restoring their bricked devices without a backup and have potentially now lost all their data, does Safari at least seem snappier?

My iPad Pro 9.7 won't restore after being plugged into iTunes using my Macbook Air. It says that the restore has failed. I've tried multiple times...

Originally quoted in this article.

For the iPad pro, I connected to iTunes (I am not able to update to latest iTunes due to corporate management of my machine). I had iTunes update my iPad. It installed 9.3.5. Attempted the OTA update and it worked this time. Everything came back normal.

For my iPhone 6s+ I did the same however it took a lot longer and when it came back it was wiped out and I had to do a full restore from iCloud backup. Have not attempted to go to 10 yet.

I have had every iPhone since the very first and this is the first time I have ever had such issues with the OTA. Based on the fact I have 10.0.1 now methinks an engineer did a switcharoo real quick and some of us got corrupt installs initially.

I wonder if OTA users are still hitting this issue now.

PS: My phone is physically too hot to touch right now now after the update and joy of all joys I get to setup apple pay on all of my cards again.

Thanks Apple, you really nailed this one.

So what do you do if you don't have a computer to connect to, to fix this?

Use an iPad Pro.

Okay has anyone seen this one yet?

Update to IOS 10 was successful. However, the "you need to agree to the news terms and conditions" thing in the iTunes store appears to present an infinite loop: I agree to the Ts and Cs, it says it's going to continue the iTunes store app update, but then gives me the "you need to agree to the new terms and conditions" message again. Lather rinse repeat.

Update: apps are updating perfectly now, without the request to approve new terms and conditions. My guess: it was a server traffic issue, and Apple wasn't receiving my acknowledged agreement to the terms and conditions.

Yep my iPad Pro failed to reboot and is now in recovery mode.

Just keeping my fingers, toes, arms, legs and hair crossed that the iPhone doesn't brick too.

GG APPLE!

EDIT: NO MY IPHONE IS KNACKERED TOO

TONIGHT'S GONNA BE FUN
My Ipad pro got bricked to recovery mode, though plugging it back to itunes put it back to previous version.

Im going to give it another go soon. It is downloading IOS 10 again.

Having a great laugh reading the iOS 10 Is Here! thread with all of the
"Oh boy! Can't wait!" & "Downloading now11!1!!1" posts,
while anyone who said: "Don't do it now. Wait until it's stabalized"
was castigated as being a "hater" and a "troll". lol

Have fun skipping over to an Apple store with your $800 paperweight giving a sob story
about how Tim said this was never gonna happen again, while the in-store Genius
just shrugs their shoulders, then gladly assists you in ordering a refurb replacement ....

That'll teach ya not to learn from history:
DO NOT DOWNLOAD iOS UPDATES THE INSTANT THEY ARE AVAILABLE
Got it now?

Update:Apple has given a statement on the issue that caused the iOS 10 update to fail over the air, and says it has now been fixed.

"We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability. The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help.

The new iOS 10 update, released today, appears to be causing problems for some iPad and iPhone owners who are installing it over-the-air. On the MacRumors forums, we're seeing multiple reports from users who have attempted to install iOS 10 and have had their devices put into recovery mode, requiring a restore.

It does not seem to be limited to a single device, but most reports from iPad owners are coming from those who have the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which has had trouble with new software releases in the past. Multiple iPhone models also appear to be affected, including the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6, and iPhone SE. From MacRumors forum member bit_bucket: Users who have their iOS 10 devices bricked by the update may need to do an iTunes restore if the update fails, which will erase all data. Some users have had their iPhones updated successfully through iTunes after the over-the-air update has failed and haven't needed to restore, but it has not been successful for other users. Here's the message users are receiving:In light of the installation issues some users are facing, those who are concerned about their devices being sent into recovery mode and bricked should hold off on downloading the iOS 10 update over the air for the time being until more information can be uncovered.

It appears iOS 10 installs through iTunes are not affected, so that remains a viable method for obtaining the iOS 10 update today. Ahead of installing iOS 10, either over the air or through iTunes, a backup should be made.

started downloading the update within minutes after it was released but it still hasn't been fully downloaded. How do I cancel the download and download a fresh copy before it bricks my phone?
