Definitely not mumbo jumbo. My 6s+ downloaded the update over the air, it looked normal while updating, then I see the connect to iTunes message. Nothing odd about my phone. No jailbreaks. It was on 9.3.5 when I started.

I think this is because the OTA update from 9.3.5 to 10.0.1 is a delta update as it has always been with OTA updates for the general public.

If you install the Developer Beta Profile (or the Public Beta Profile), I believe iOS downloads the entire firmware file, which is larger, and replaces the entire iOS filesystem with the new one.

This may be why us testers for the GM didn't run into issues.

Then you should obviously update your phone at a time when it's not needed for those things. You didn't have to update the second the update was available.
Actually, I didn't even know I was updating the second it was available and neither did a lot of people. Some of us just check for updates regularly. I didn't even know ios10 was being released today. I actually thought it was released yesterday but that's really irrelevant.

If your phone is really this important, why did you do a major software update before it was tested at all?

I agree, its a terrible situation, but you should be smarter than that. The issue was fixed within an hour or two of release, maybe wait next time to make sure this doesn't happen?

What do they have all those betas for, then?

Now that I try to restore my iPhone with iTunes, I get 'An unknown error occurred (1671)'.

Thank you very much, Apple!

The best thing all of this is, I normally do all big updates just to avoid this stuff, but now I have the rMB. Thanks Apple for ditching the only way to fix this crap!

Here:
iPad Air 2 OTA Updated without issue.
iPhone 6S OTA failed, now connected to ITunes.

This is the new Apple company.

Wait patiently for them to give the all clear for the OTA update?
I'd imagine it is a bit too late to wait for the all clear... The fact that it is legitimately available to download should be enough of an indication that Apple is fine with us proceeding with the update. I really do feel bad for the people who replaced their macbooks or laptops with a Pro and went ahead and did a OTA.

Been at the apple store an hour already. This cost me business today, this prevented me from communicating with my child's daycare, this prevented me from trading stocks, this prevented me from transferring money, this prevented me from responding to important emails, Apple needs to remember there are real world people dependent on these phones. Not to mention the medical apps doctors and patients use to track medications etc. This isn't just someone sitting at home in front of an iMac who runs into an issue updating. This is people without a macbook or iMac, at work, in the field, on a plane, wherever they are, and it's a major problem.

Makes me wonder why you would update in the middle of your day then...

Couldn't agree more. If your phone is that imperative to your business/life, perhaps updating it later that evening or a few days later would've been the smart choice.

Seems pretty common sense to NOT update when you need it for something critical. I'd never update my phone right before going to work or on a vacation or something important.

What is relevant is not to update your phone when it's needed for use because you never know what's gonna happen.

"So Tell me what is the iOS OTA update supposed to do?"...<Answer>..."Well why the F*#k doesn't it do that"
oh fanboy is here. Do u remember the same issues with Apple when Jobs was the CEO? I don't. Any time Apple does something it goes along with bugs, crashes and tons of other s**t. Now you can say Apple isn't superior to Android anymore, just deal with it.

For testing apps, code, features, extensions? Those of you that got it installed properly are getting a much less bug ridden version than us developers started with. Bugs were reported, fixed, changed, improved, ignored, etc. The update server going down or not connecting properly is not something that can easily be beta tested. I am sure millions of people all hit it at once.

Apple/iOS is still superior to Android in some areas, just as Android is still superior to iOS in some areas. And Jobs' time as CEO wasn't flawless. Remember MobileMe?

Okay quick update:

Bricked OTA. Plugged into iTunes and was offered an upgrade or restore option. Chose upgrade and 10.0.1 downloaded and installed and I now have my 6S fully functioning again with NO LOSS OF DATA. Choose upgrade do not choose restore.

So, iTunes is downloading 10.0.1 and I randomly got the error message saying it can't be updated, yet it's still downloading 10.0.1. Do I need to wait until the download is finished and keep trying to force an update or is it confused at this point?
