iOS 10 Over-the-Air Update Bricking Some iPhones and iPads [Update: Fixed]

I wish this is resolved .. When u mean over-the-air, Apple actually really Wi-fi, because u cannot download large updates over cellular, at least i couldn't 1.1Gig..

Except there are reports from several people on here that that isn't working...
They may not have updated iTunes. Update iTunes and then restore/update. (some are trying ota over and over. That won't work if you had the issue)

Well, mine finally started the update process. After starting the 4th download in iTunes, the software extraction process just started with no notice and started the update on the iPhone. It is currently in the update process.

I have no idea why it finally started the update process when it did.

iTunes is updated, but halfway through the iOS download, it all goes south. The phone errors out but the download continues. If I try again, it downloads a whole new copy. Surely someone has went through this.

im not backed up (I'm super upset but obviously its my own fault) but my iTunes wasn't up to date so I'm updating that first then i will plug it back in and see what happens?before resorting to restore
Hopefully you can fix it without having to lose your content. Guess it is a valuable lesson to always backup prior. I learned that lesson long ago after losing my data as well.

I have not updated yet(I have an iPad Pro 9.7 inch and I always update through iTunes(And then go into recovery mode to do a clean format) is updating through itunes working the last thing I want to have happen is a bricked ipad

I have had the same issue. For some reason, during the 4th download, the software extraction process began and the update on the phone started. I wish I could tell you what finally made it start, but I have no idea.

I noticed there was an iTunes update. After updating iTunes it's now downloading the 10.0.1 update. Hopefully I can upgrade to that without having to restore.

So I finally managed to update using iTunes and didn't lose anything (except 2 1/2 hours of my life).

I've been on iTunes, downloaded iOS10 five times and it keeps giving an error message. Update button simply isn't working for me.
Check the TOP right button (in itunes) with the circle and arrow pointing downwards, the iphone software may be downloading.. I did not realize it - I was seeing the error also, but the software was downloading..

It's downloading but it's on full restore now. I have a backup, so it will just take more time than normal. Plus, I just had a tooth extracted, so I won't be going anywhere at all today.

Been at the apple store an hour already. This cost me business today, this prevented me from communicating with my child's daycare, this prevented me from trading stocks, this prevented me from transferring money, this prevented me from responding to important emails, Apple needs to remember there are real world people dependent on these phones. Not to mention the medical apps doctors and patients use to track medications etc. This isn't just someone sitting at home in front of an iMac who runs into an issue updating. This is people without a macbook or iMac, at work, in the field, on a plane, wherever they are, and it's a major problem.

You should have waited to update your phone until you finished working. It's always a risk updating your phone as soon as the update drops, and you took that risk. You should have been smarter about it and just waited a day or two and updated AFTER work.
