Haha. It is funny, were in tech so everyone of course is excited. It's scary, because people need their phones to take calls. and I know with ATT to forward you need to call and spend 20minutes with them to forward then drop the forward later. just makes it a little messy.
hope you guys don't have to deal w a tech emergency then, you wouldn't know if the cellphones ring lol.
jk of course :)

oh fanboy is here. Do u remember the same issues with Apple when Jobs was the CEO? I don't. Any time Apple does something it goes along with bugs, crashes and tons of other s**t. Now you can say Apple isn't superior to Android anymore, just deal with it.
I was making a joke about how Steve might have handled the situation. It was an adaptation of the reported conversation he had with members of the MobileMe team after its issues.

I'm getting this but the update is still downloading. Do I have to cancel the download or just unplug the phone and wait until the download is complete before plugging the phone back in?

Thats what has been happening to me. Once I click update it starts the download again. Next time it does it click "Cancel" that way the download continues....has worked so far for me this way.

I am also getting a message on iTunes every few mins telling me it cannot connect to iTunes music, anyone else having this?

Even the update here in the UK keeps crashing whilst my phone is still bricked and useless. This will take hours

Right there with you. 4th attempt at downloading the update to a restore mode 6s here in the UK. Either the download crashes out, or downloads fully and iTunes ignores it, opting to set another download going in parallel to the first.

This is on a 40mbit fibre connection mind - not sure how I get the download down before iTunes decides to ignore it

I have an update for people who got a bricked phone updating OTA! (Particularly for those on the very latest release of iTunes - 12.5.1.)

KEEP TRYING TO UPDATE VIA ITUNES EVEN WHEN IT FAILS. I got like 10 failed messages but I kept trying to update and eventually it went all the way through and completed the process. My phone didn't delete anything and it works just fine now, all files in tact! Do not restore data until you've tried at least 10 or so times!
10 fail messages, it's taking 45 to 60 minutes to re-download the update. This is my 3rd time downloading....38 minutes left on the 3rd try (my first download was quick, 10 minutes).

I'm having the same problem. I've downloaded this update from iTunes three times and each time it ignores it and starts over.

Same with me here. This is ridiculous. I've spent two hours just trying to get iTunes to fix the problem. Apple has created a mess.

I wish people would stop incorrectly using the term 'bricked'. The term 'bricked' should only be used when a device is completely unservicable, ie. needs to be returned to manufacturer or sole remaining use is a paper weight.

If a device can be restored, it is not 'bricked'.
Mine may not be "bricked" as you see it, but it is effectively a paperweight for me just now as iTunes is refusing to complete the download of the update file - it keeps pausing or cutting out and eventually restarts it from the beginning - so far the furthest it got was about 700 odd MB out of the 2.31GB needed, but each time since it is lucky to get to 100MB before starting from the beginning. Why can't they manage to resume from where it got to consistently? Sometimes it does but eventually it gives me a 9006 error and wipes out any progress it made. Looks like my phone will be a paperweight until the Apple servers are under a bit less strain for me to download the file successfully. And this is on a 200M fibre connection!

It's pretty insane honestly. But, I noticed that the update progress download seemingly took less and less time each time I did it, and by the 10th time it didn't take long at all to download it and it went to the Apple screen with the progress bar and iTunes recognized my phone and all went well.

Keep the faith!

Love the way Apple just ASSUMES everybody has access to a Mac or a Pc running iTunes....

They've spent the last number of years telling us that its not necessary, with updates and set up directly on devices and the iPad pro being 'a computer'... I know many - particularly older people that i know - who ONLY have an iPad. That IS their computer. They'd be COMPLETELY screwed in this situation
This "wireless world," this "post PC era" this "vision" they keep talking about, that's why I sit back and wonder what are they talking about when they keep saying this on stage!

Getting the ITUNES error message - There was an error downloading the software for the iPhone - An unknown error occurred = 1671.. Does this mean I have to now try the RESTORE option versus Update???
OK - I didnt realize (new to the new itunes software) that the iphone software download was happening.. You have to check the button on top right - button with the arrown pointing down)... So I will wait for the iphone software download and see what happens next...

I'm on a DSL line and it's going to take long no matter what. I wish someone would come on here and tell us how to fix this?

Mine has completed the download twice and then started over again.

They aren't bricked.
Update iTunes and then update your phone via iTunes.
S hizzle happens. It not the end of the world. You're phone will be fine today.

Any chance of screen burn in on an iPad stuck in recovery mode for several hours? I don't have access to a computer right now and it will be a while before I do.

Really? I'm on my 4th download on iTunes, keeps starting over and giving me error messages.

I wish people would stop arguing about what happened and help those of us who are in a situation, so we can get it fixed. It would be most appreciated.

Nothing in life is 100% except death. When millions of customers are updating at the same time even a 0.01% failure rate will be thousands of people having issues. There is nothing anyone can do about it.

Except there are reports from several people on here that that isn't working...

The new iOS 10 update, released today, appears to be causing problems for some iPad and iPhone owners who are installing it over-the-air. On the MacRumors forums, we're seeing multiple reports from users who have attempted to install iOS 10 and have had their devices put into recovery mode, requiring a restore.

It does not seem to be limited to a single device, but most reports from iPad owners are coming from those who have the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which has had trouble with new software releases in the past. Multiple iPhone models also appear to be affected, including the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6, and iPhone SE. From MacRumors forum member bit_bucket: Users who have their iOS 10 devices bricked by the update may need to do an iTunes restore if the update fails, which will erase all data. Some users have had their iPhones updated successfully through iTunes after the over-the-air update has failed and haven't needed to restore, but it has not been successful for other users. Here's the message users are receiving:In light of the installation issues some users are facing, those who are concerned about their devices being sent into recovery mode and bricked should hold off on downloading the iOS 10 update over the air for the time being until more information can be uncovered.

It appears iOS 10 installs through iTunes are not affected, so that remains a viable method for obtaining the iOS 10 update today. Ahead of installing iOS 10, either over the air or through iTunes, a backup should be made.

Update: Apple has given a statement on the issue that caused the iOS 10 update to fail over the air, and says it has now been fixed.

"We experienced a brief issue with the software update process, affecting a small number of users during the first hour of availability. The problem was quickly resolved and we apologize to those customers. Anyone who was affected should connect to iTunes to complete the update or contact AppleCare for help.

I updated a 6s+ and 9.7in IPad Pro with no issues. It took forever to download but that's my only complaint.
