Just because Apple said the iPad Pro can replace your laptop doesn't mean you should throw it out the window.

To be honest if I was buying an iPad Pro to replace a Surface, I'd do something more interesting than throw it out a window. Something more like Frisbee it from the top of the Eiffel Tower to see how far it would go or something of that sort, get creative people.

My update eventually worked via iTunes (from a PC, after it failed for about 1 hour on my Mac). No data was lost.

Still, annoying and utterly embarrassing for Apple's test team.

Urgent -

Will connecting to iTunes do anything to fix this if I don't have a home wifi connection?

Wow, you are blown away when a device manufacturer releases an update and people, gasp, update??

No.

I am blown away that Apple clearly does not beta test like they give the impression they do.

Because without fail, Apple's updates have bricked up a lot of devices over the years.

So you would think - especially those who post in this forum would know better - hang loose for a week or so... let the total idiots be the canaries in the coalmine.

Has anyone else noticed that Apple just plain sucks now?

IUP fail; iOS10 OTA fail; Kaby Lake fail; Mac Pro fail; soldered RAM fail; headphone jack fail; MacBook keyboard fail; adapter fail...

Yes.

Agreed.

Especially the Macbook keyboard fail.

The Apple Store employees always play dumb on this one. They claim I am the only one with the problem. Yeah right.

My point is that having a backup computer when possible is a great idea.

Every single person who hit this should call AppleCare. Make them walk you through fixing it, even if you already did. Keep them on the phone for half an hour.

Every single call against a new product launch is a financial hit to Apple, and is counted directly against that product. This is the only quality measure that can't be ignored.

It's downloading but it's on full restore now. I have a backup, so it will just take more time than normal. Plus, I just had a tooth extracted, so I won't be going anywhere at all today.
so this has been an awful 4 hours now.. Finally got the iphone software extract and then it tells me it cant find the iphone and I need to RESTORE... I am unplugging and trying to Update again to see if works - its extracting the iphone software agan - seems to be moving faster than the first extract... WHAT A DAY...

My husband's phone is now showing the iTunes screen after updating but he does not have a laptop. Is there anything else he can do? Can he plug it into my laptop or Will it affect my iTunes? Thanks.

Extraction complete, I am holding my breathe but think the software is now loading to my phone.. The phone has the traditional apple with the bar underneath. Itunes says updating iPhone software :) If you dont hear from me after this post, I am a happy camper...

As a bonus, now that the update finally worked, the battery dropped from 50% to zero in about 20 minutes. I hope this will be fixed after I charge and restart.

I understand your point, but let's have fun with the old saying "toss it out the window" :D

The iPad Pro; the Surface Pro; neither are a good reason to get rid of a laptop or a desktop. (ok maybe the surface pro is if you're laptop performs slower) But that's about it. You can't use dual monitors with either device as easily as you could a laptop.

If you can replace your laptop/desktop with one of these devices then you didn't need the laptop/desktop in the first place.

This is definitely still an issue and has not been fixed. I've updated iTunes and tried to Restore and Update but both extract the software and then say iTunes could not complete the update with a different number that the end each time.

For those of you downloading each time, why don't you download the ipsw file for your OS and phone and then hold the shift key when you click Update or Restore so you can just select the file location. There is ABSOLUTELY no need to download it each time like you're doing.

how long does the update-after-bricking-and connecting to iTunes take? the initial download took a long, long time. Is this "update" download expected to be just as lengthy? mine's been working 20 minutes or so, maybe premature for me to worry. or not... ?

Didn't take as long as the OTA update. I'm sure we're fine now that it's up and running like it should :)

No. They still make the very best products. They still have the most amazing support. And Tim Cook is making mo money, mo money, and mo money for Apple and its incredible investors.

My 6s+ OTA update also failed and I'm stuck in recovery mode.

Trying to update/restore via iTunes (lastest version on windows) but it won't seem to download. Just sits there for hours, with the update in the download list but not doing anything. Anyone else had this problem?

Updated iTunes, and after backup, installed iOS 10 on 6s plus without a problem. Today must be my lucky day!
