The new iOS 10 update, released today, appears to be causing problems for some iPad and iPhone owners who are installing it over-the-air. On the MacRumors forums, we're seeing multiple reports from users who have attempted to install iOS 10 and have had their devices put into recovery mode, requiring a restore.

It does not seem to be limited to a single device, but most reports from iPad owners are coming from those who have the 9.7-inch iPad Pro, which has had trouble with new software releases in the past. Multiple iPhone models also appear to be affected. From MacRumors forum member bit_bucket: Users who have their iOS 10 devices bricked by the update may need to do an iTunes restore if the update fails, which will erase all data. Some users have had their iPhones updated successfully and haven't needed to restore, but it has failed for other users. Here's the message users are receiving:In light of the installation issues some users are facing, those who are concerned about their devices being sent into recovery mode and bricked should hold off on downloading the iOS 10 update for the time being until more information can be uncovered. A backup before installing is also recommended.

Add mine to this list! iPhone SE 64Gb on 9.3.5 . . . so what's the F*****G deal? I know apple HATE the fact that they had to make the SE (check the accessories for it) but they could have tested the bloody upgrade!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

downloading in the restore to iTunes now :(

This is what I'm staring at right now and I'm pissed. Nothing I can do until I get home and plug into iTunes?

It happens because the super-rich execs continue to get richer regardless of how poorly the customers get treated. They just don't give a monkeys that our time is wasted or data lost. Having just pranced around last week on stage taking over two hours to announce bugger all they release buggy os updates. Oh, but heh, at least when it does eventually get fixed (after we spend hours sussing out a way to fix the problem) we can play a moronic mario video game. Boy, have they got their priorities right.
Mario ain't moronic though, he's a plumber with a secret double life.

Jeezus...this is the last thing Apple needs right now. WTF is going on in Cupertino---didn't the software update problems going back to 8.0 teach them anything?

Glad I'm running the GM version of the public beta updated last week.
Problem wasn't there with the GM beta

On iPad Mini 4 I try to upgrade to iOS 10, I wait 18 minutes while upgrade download, then iPad goes into recovery mode, plug into iTunes and I wait for another download, and I end up back in iOS 9. Infinite loop. Tried four times.

No problem with iPhone 6s plus.
Update iTunes.

My 6s and iPad pro bricked but my 6 and another iPad pro updated 100% whats going on Apple as they are all the same with same apps etc. At least my wife's works for her day ahead.

iTunes now says their's a problem with restore. I'll be asking for new iPhone and iPad to get me up and going fast.

The update failed on my iPhone SE. The restore is also failing on my work computer.

Now I've no phone until I get home.

Thanks Apple.

Have 12.9 and 9.7 and the 9.7 worked flawlessly over OTA but checked on the 12.9 and is asking me to connect to iTunes so I'm keeping my fingers crossed... still in process so time will tell. No issues with my iPhone 6s + but the watch download started off at 10 hours and is now down to 1 even with some speedy wifi at home.

Update... the 12.9 had no issues after connecting to iTunes... just the OTA at least gave mine an issue.

Well I'm screwed. My iPhone got temporarily stuck through OTA update, I connected to iTunes and I'm trying to update it but no luck. Got timed out once and now an unknown error and cannot update it. Starting to panic a bit.

And great job by Apple's QA as usual - those guys should be proud of themselves over the past few years. /s

Another iPhone SE here that failed to update, people really need to stop saying 'bricked'. iTunes is currently downloading the new Software...although that's going to take another 30 minutes.
I've already downloaded the "new Software" twice and attempting to Update doesn't help. Iphone 6s.

Had to plug 6S+ into iTunes which made me upgrade iTunes and now iTunes won't connect to iCloud library. WTF??

And both iPhone 6S+ and iPad Pro 9.7 are locked up.

You bought phone to use it and right now you have just beautiful brick at home.

If you want to connect it to iTunes because the phone is telling you to do it, it just let you know that you should check your connection because it doesn`t look like that you are connected. Servers are down, so... I am glad that I am not alone.

Isn`t it ironic that company that has billions in banks is facing such a problem....
