Great, Apple is making a lot of people choose sides on this topic.

Sure some folks might love it, but others, as in me included, are not that much happy and if only we'd get a quick third toggle to completely turn wifi/bt off, then all of us can live happily and end this mindless bickering.

Honestly, I don't like Apples stance on babysitting the users at times.

Nobody wants this and nobody requested it. This is a classic example of way overthinking a non issue and making the non issue become an issue that now requires a freaking pop up to not really explain what is happening. Since when is requiring a pop up "improving the user experience"?

Whoever came up with this hair brained idea should be demoted or fired. There's problems in Cupertino....
Clearly quite a few people in this thread alone are finding the new options useful.

Seems like the typical users that represent majority of the consumer base need some level of "babysitting".

Best solution would be off is off and through 3D Touch, give further options such as time length or WiFi network specific on or off.

Sure, but a non default, heck even hidden by force touch third toggle would just make everyone so much happier. I mean who would be even against it?

It still doesn't have to be this way, or that way, it can be both or any other way.
And I gotta agree on the ones against this move, as now it requires an extra step to go into settings to turn off.
I know, such problems.

Who cares though, we all know Apple is not the one to change their mind and specially now after this new pop up.

I absolutely loathe this feature. In the building where I work we have some spots where the WiFi reception is terrible. So I used to just togfle it off really quickly so I could use LTE to load whatever it was I was doing, and then toggle it back on. Now, even if I do that, it doesn’t reconnect until I force it through settings or go home for the day and wonder why my battery is so damn low. Oh yeah, because WiFi didn’t reconnect.

It seems there’s a good mix of love it and hate it for the change to how these buttons work. I think that’s because there are different use cases where totally off is preferred and others where just disconnecting is preferred. And both cases are popular and valid.

Apple wants their services (Air Drop, for example) to work all the time and if people turn off Bluetooth, then it kills their feature and confuses people. So I think the goal here is to make sure Apple services work and don’t confuse people when they don’t.

This decision comes at the expense of everyone who wants/needs to be able to toggle antennas completely on/off.

A 3D Touch or long press could expose the advanced options for complete on/off and that would fix the problem.

For now, it seems Apple wants advanced users to go into the settings app.

Personally, this new functionality has caused some problems for me. I sometimes do need everything completely off and now it’s extra work for me to avoid other problems related with leaving the antennas on. I would like something to allow me to completely turn on/off antennas from control center, like the 3D Touch options mentioned before or something in settings that changes how these toggle behave all the time. Just something!

I see what they are trying to do, but don’t agree with how they’ve approached the solution.

Have you heard of “do not auto connect” on Settings.app?
[doublepost=1510604888][/doublepost]Do your research in WiFi and GPS battery use. WiFi reduces battery draining by GPS. That’s reality no matter how much you may deny it. Feel free to believe in urban myths if you want to, though - to each their own.

Do you see me believing in anything, claiming anything, including those urban myths that you know and I don't in that post? I genuinely ask your source. You can always be a lamb and share those details. It's pretty common practice asking someone their basis. Be an adult and tell us what you know, chap! I just want to know what you know.

I thought this functionality was stupid when they first rolled out out, but I can't believe how often I use this feature. I'm glad they kept it and just added the notification.

While I can appreciate the usefulness of either approach, IMO the 'right' solution is to allow me (the individual customer) the ability to choose which approach is right for me. I would jump at the chance to change it back to off=off rather than off=pause.

It’s called nostalgia.

Common man, be fair. This whole charade could've been avoided if they made the option long press or 3D touch. Now it's just a silly "feature" that a lot of people like but a lot of people dislike. It was an easy way for apple to satisfy both parties. But they opted to change it instead. And after the backlash, they opted to explain themselves rather than giving both parties what they want. This is seriously the most arbitrary thing I've seen apple get wrong. The notch is at the very least necessary.

Many reasons why, yes those are great ones.
How about 2 extra antennas in your pocket broadcasting radiation into your thigh and groin area for no reason.
Extra battery drain
Security issues you are broadcasting 24/7 now

There is NO reason why Apple is short sited on intuitiveness. It should be a tap for disconnect and a hold for off. Solved everyone happy done.

And the response form people about having to go into setting is unacceptable. It take too much time and it is annoying. The other fast way it to ask Siri to do it, but you can't always use voice commands such as in meetings or in public situation where that would be inappropriate.

I agree with you.. where is the long press??? hellow.
Long press for those who don't have 3D Touch.

I personally think that wifi should be or could be geo based. I don't want my phone checking for wifi at every stop light. How about it only checks when I get to specific locations...like home or office..OR IF I ASK IT TO

this would save tons of battery

This is wrong, because this how you phone saves battery by not fire off your GPS all the time.

Try googling it, this been long proven to not save a measure amount of battery

Since you're reluctant to answer a simple question, at least tell us what to bother Uncle Google with? In case you may struggle to understand, I'm not just interested in a generic Google answer, I want to know your proof!

I agree they could have used 3D Touch to disable WiFi and Bluetooth altogether. The fact that I appreciate so much the new “disconnect” feature doesn’t make me abort of seeing how 3D touching would make it easier for the few of us that wish they could disable these antennae from Control Center.

Definitely a case of "two wrongs do not make a right".
They should simply at least allow us to have an "off" button that means "off" if so we desire. I very very very much do.

Just a simple example: I never need my iPhone to have wifi on, except when I want to tether my computer; at any other time, having the iPhone try to connect to random network (and often, fail and issue messages complaining about it) is just going in my way for no valid reason; so, now, EACH TIME I finish a tethering session, I have to go to the settings and go through several stupid steps I did not need before. Not my definition of easily usable devices.
