As an X user, I understand for some they want to offer the CC bar to help people out, but I would really love a toggle to turn it and the home bar off. I'm very familiar with all of the swipes as of a few hours into day one, and I don't need them on the UI any longer.

I'd be OK if they implemented it like this: turning wifi off in the CC will disconnect any connected wifi network and won't re-connect to it (or possibly any wifi network within range when you push the button - I could see either one being functional, but I prefer the latter) until 5am the next morning. It would still connect to other known networks.

I don't understand why is apple so mental about actually turning off data in general???
If you remember form first versions of iOS you cannot do that.
Now WIFI and Bluetooth left open where many users have no clue... this is simply crazy.

Can someone explain to me what does Apple gain from this?
Maybe I am missing something.

Thanks in advance.

Perhaps Apple should do what they've done so many times before: look at Android. The "Wifi+"-function is great, it uses location to determine where your preferred wifi networks are and turns wifi on at those locations. It checks if your mobile connection or wifi has the best connection and chooses that. And, it evaluates the connectivity of networks and if it seems a wifi network has connectivity problems, it moves to mobile.
But, if you turn wifi off, it sure is off until you say otherwise, unless you let it use wifi for location, which is the default.

I agree with some poeople here...we are NOT stupid. If we turn wifi off, we KNOW its off. How assuming Apple is to assume we are forgettign to turn back on or off...

Yes. De-activating WiFi kills battery life due to increased GPS usage. However, when I want to turn off WiFi, I don't simply want to disconnect it, I have a reason to do so. The usual workflow was working pretty fine - now they've decided to change it. It has become an inconvenience. Instead of providing users an option to make both happy, you screw one party over - those who liked the previous behavior.

That is simply not a way of proper UX design.

I like this. Instead of having to turn off my WiFi when connecting to some slow hotspots, I can just disconnect from them, so later when I'm at home it will connect to my WiFi which I often forgot I turned off.

Though the latter is now less of an issue with unlimited data.

God what a complete nightmare for anyone who lives in an actual city and walks around anywhere. Constantly connecting to public Wifi networks is definitely enough to break the functionality of a phone in Manhattan or Tokyo.

Oh Well, gotta wait for Jailbreak to bring back the functionality in Flip Control Center :) ("True Wifi off/ True BT off"_

Why the stupid bar under the system icons on the lock screen? It's a big empty screen and you still have to slide down to see the battery percentage! iOS has been getting progressively less user friendly with all of the extra button pressing and swiping required to see and do the things that were there at first glance a few years ago.

Why keep it an intuitive on/off when you can add a pop up explaining it?
Because there is NOTHING intutive about a button that, when tapped, changes color, gives no other feedback .....oh and permanently disables the core function of your device.

To most non-savvy users, that is a serious problem. This new way of doing is not about people who know what the toggle does. Pat yourself on the back for being so smart.

I just want to be able to turn them off in CC like I used to be able to. By all means leave the default however the way you want this week Apple, just give me the option!

It isn't the biggest thing in the world, but it does irrationally infuriate me, as much the 'we always know best' attitude as the removal of functionality.

As I've posted before on this, it's kind of ironic they gave people (and patted themselves on the back for) more configurability in CC in iOS 11, only to remove the function I (and I would guess many others) used the most often.

There is no compelling reason for a user to stare at their battery percentage all day on a device that should be lasting all day on a single charge. Need to check? Multiple ways to do so. Single gesture away. But you don't need to look at it all day.

Which has been proved to not save battery...

Because obviously the laws of physics do not apply to Apple devices.

It might not be much of a savings, but I use my iPhone when I go hillwalking. The tends to drain the battery fairly fast, and since I do not need WiFi connections in the Highlands of Scotland, I'd just assume that all the phone's energy be used for the GPS app I use, or making emergency calls or texts if need be. In this regard, I'd love to see Apple make an iPhone for active outdoor use (bigger battery, bombproof, waterproof, fully optimised GPS, perhaps a titanium frame for keeping weight down, greater telephoto capabilities in the camera, better on-the-go charging, etc.) but I understand this would be a niche market, so Apple is unlikely to do this.

And still Apple hasn’t embraced the idea of allowing us to fully disable from CC using 3D Touch. They have the technology, & they spent unknown amounts of money to develop it. Sadly 3D Touch feels like a forgotten hobby collecting dust in the background.

While I am complaining, I want my 3D Touch app switcher back, way faster and easier than the slide and hold, or inverted L gesture.

Where does it say it is an off button, it is now a disconnect button.

But it's not disconnected, that's the point. And worse, since some of buttons like Airplane Mode actually "disconnect" (turn on/off) when you toggle them, it only makes the UI even more confusing, for experienced and technophobes alike. It's failed UI no matter how you want to argue it.

I understand what they’re trying to do, but I believe it’s unnecessary.

Off should be off, on should be on.

Keep it simple stupid.

Why keep it an intuitive on/off when you can add a pop up explaining it?

"pop goes the weasel?"

Please tell me that I can disable that message.

Why not long press for the option to turn it off completely?...

They are turned off to SAVE BATTERY DURPA-DURRRR Apple!

I want my OFF toggles back. I understand how to manage my antennas I don't need to be antenna coddled by Apple's OS.

We should be able to swap the toggles out or HOLD on the WiFi Bluetooth to switch them OFF!

So STUPID.

Guys I completely agree!

Industry standard and simplistic understanding should REMAIN that way. Who at Apple is THIS stupid to change what users have always loved and expected over years?!

The new way is much better. When I get to my car for example at work, it has a very weak connection to wifi. I don't want to turn off wifi, I want to just disconnect from work. The old way I would forget to turn wifi back on.

What? You REALLY think this is better?
Let's say you're about to board an airplane ... toggle off ... you change timezones and boom it's on again much earlier than iOS is expecting ... is there still airline restrictions on radios?!!

Let's say when you land you're "expecting" based on this assinine NON-Industry standard change for toggle switches in a software based smartphone, that WiFi should connect to the airport and all the while your streaming is now via carrier roaming rates!! Yeah I'm sure you'd LOVE to see that bill - considering the basic common sense is to enable what you turned off and now through Apple indoctrination you're expecting it to turn ON automatically.

It discounts you from the wifi you are connected to, this is exactly what it does. Airplane mode turns off these radios.

To make everyone happy, Apple should offer an option to enable turn off temporarily or turn off permanently (and for all networks) on the CC. That, or a long press/3D touch to select which option. Easiest solution and makes everyone happy.
