The problem with this is that it defeats the end-to-end encryption of iMessage. Uploading them to iCloud means that your decryption key has to be stored with iCloud too, unless Apple changes the authentication method on iCloud as a whole.

Could they not store them encrypted on iCloud as well? Decryption key wouldn't have to be stored in iCloud then. The syncing can still be done encrypted, just that it goes via iCloud instead of device-to-device that it is now.

How would, for example, new devices decrypt it and make use of it all then?

1.) Dark mode
2.) 2-factor dynamic unlock screen (fingerprint + PIN + automatic re-lock if a bluetooth device falls out of range)
3.) A bloody settings button in the control center
4.) Split screen multi tasking for ALL iPhone
5.) Better force touch implementation
6.) Type contact names in dial pad for faster access
7.) a more semi-transparent Siri screen so things like addresses can be read while dictated.

we'll start there.

If you want all these things, you should buy an Android.

Apple has got it right.

Just to clarify if I may.
If Apple adds any of these features, you will be here posting Apple are Wrong.

Yes ?

I wanna see Jony Ive get fit

Perhaps he needs, some kind of watch that can monitor things and try to make to wish to exercise.

Dammit, if only someone had designed such a product he could look at getting for himself.

I think that's the same argument people are using when suggesting Apple increase the 5GB of storage for all of your devices combined. It's eye wateringly cheap. I'm almost 99.9% sure Apple can afford that. Doesn't affect me either way since my storage is elsewhere. Just pointing out that single argument works for both sides.

Yes, but Apple are greedy snakes. We have to rejoice when they finally give us something that's not designed to completely rip consumers off.

Landscape mode on the 4.7". no idea why we don't have that already.

I don't think they will ever implement landscape mode on the 4.7 iPhone. It does make complete sense for a larger display with the 5.5 inch iPhone and it's overall ratio. As much as I like my iPhone 7 plus, I never use landscape mode as much as I thought I would. Primarily because it requires two hands versus having one hand in portrait mode.

Everything mentioned here is pretty basic. And we still don't have it on iOS.
I would just add one pretty small and pretty basic thing also: SPEED DIAL

Dumb phones from late 90's had this option. Every other phone except iPhone has this. Well, only reason I still use iPhone is because of mac integration. But every day I find it hard to justify purchasing an iPhone just for that reason alone.

iOS is pretty lacking behind Android in options, so much so that it isn't even funny anymore.

Only up to page 3 of replies so I expect somebody (or several folks) have asked/pointed this out, but does 'Favorites' in the phone app not cover this function for you???

You have favorites on android as well. And no, it does not. There is no point in having 100+ favorites :)

You should try "Hey Siri! Call ___". I think it's speedy enough.

Siri is a joke I'm afraid. Especially if your native language isn't english. And you are mostly calling for non-english names :)

iOS has speed dial, it is called favourites.

Nice joke :)

Agreed. I think it speaks volumes about where your competition is at when the biggest thing Google announced for Android at I/O was icon badges.

Didn't watch Google I/O, or even read about it. But Android is way ahead when functionality is compared to iOS, so even if Google adds nothing, Apple would need a few years just to catch up. And that is if they even wanted to.

Just install an app like launcher, and you can put your speed dial in a widget.

For everyone who recommends favorites over speed dial:
I highly doubt you guys have ever used speed dial, or have any idea what it is (no insult intended, just my opinion) :)

People wanted control center,,, now they hate whats become if it... Make up ya minds.

You cant have a cluttered Control center, so u must split it up, something we hate...

you start adding more features like animated icons to third party apps and more, then also except more security flaws as well from it..

Its a cycle.......

- Add features..
- More fixes
- Rinse, and repeat.

Convenient as it is..

The only thing I've missed once or twice is being able to reply with an attachment - most often an image from photos.

Other than that the only thing I care about is having a phone with a battery life that's actually useable. None of the current models do. Adding all kinds of animation, multitasking and whatever else makes it sound like the battery life will take quite a hit on the iOS 11 and that's kind of sad considering the starting point. No more cordless, you need to be hooked up to a charger constantly to be able to use your phone?

On my iphone, for the life of me I can't get a true whitelist for my contacts. I want only those on my contacts to ring. Doesn't work for anyone as non contact numbers still ring thru. At least let me have a silent ring that I don't have to create myself so only certain numbers ring and everyone else silently rings.

Using a combination of 'Favorites' in the Phone app and 'Do Not Disturb' with 'Allow calls from Favorites' option set should achieve the functionality you describe.

I know, what I meant is, just delete the Contacts App.

You know you can do that now, right? along with Stocks and other apple apps that are in iOS by default.

Apple will introduce the next-generation version of iOS, iOS 11, on June 5 at its Worldwide Developers Conference. While WWDC is less than two weeks away, we've haven't heard many details on what we can expect.

There's talk about an overhauled design and an updated user interface along with rumors of new functionality for the iPad, but beyond that, we don't know what's coming, and we don't know what that new user interface will look like. In the absence of rumors, we've taken a look at some of the most-desired features MacRumors readers are hoping for in iOS 11, culled from our forums.

Unsurprisingly, many readers are looking forward to a new design and an overhauled interface. Here are some of the things readers want in a design refresh:

- Animated icons - Allowing developers to add small animations to app icons is something that iOS users have been wanting for several years. With access to subtle animations, apps like Fantastical could feature an icon with the current date, or third-party weather apps could display the current temperature.

- iPhone complications - The Apple Watch interface features multiple complications or small icons that let Apple Watch users glean information at a glance. On the iPhone, complications could be added to the lock screen or the Home screen to serve the same function, letting users see information like weather or activity level without needing to open an app.

- Customizable Control Center - iOS 10 made a mess of the Control Center, splitting it into three screens. MacRumors readers are hoping for a more unified design with the ability to choose what icons and functions are displayed. Expanded 3D Touch for more granular control over Control Center options would also improve the Control Center.

My biggest pet peeve, is like most I lock the orientation because otherwise iPhones constantly rotate when you don't want. However everytime a video players I have to temporarily disable that. iOS should automatically allow landscape videos even with portrait lock on when it detects the phone is turned landscape as an option.

What I would actually like is the option to toggle certain apps that can be accessed without passcode/Touch ID. Apps like Spotify, weather, news apps, etc., there's no reason why I should want to lock them as long as they're properly sandboxed.

I think about this every time I'm at the gym and I have to unlock my phone a million times just to play around with my playlist

Facepalm on the Photos app. Please at least bring it up to 2010 standards :p

Yes! Or at least 5GB PER device owned.

I wouldn't say per device owned, but rather per device category:
5 GB if you have a phone (any iPhone)
5 GB if you have a mobile device (iPad, iPod, Apple Watch)
5 GB if you have a laptop (MacBook, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro)
5 GB if you have a desktop (iMac, Mac Mini, Mac Pro)

that would grant a max of 25GB of storage for free

Enable Bluetooth RSAP (remote sim access profile) so that I can use my iPhone with the much more powerful receiver, transmitter and roof mounted aerial built into my car.

I certainly did use speed dial back when I had a feature phone rather than a smart phone (my first smart phone was Sony Ericsson p800, so long before iPhone) But I can honestly say that I do not think I have thought about it, and certainly not 'missed' it since.

Needing 100+ speed dial codes sounds like a fairly unique use case to me personally and if you can actually correctly & efficiently recall 100+ speed dial codes I'd suggest that you are fairly unique too. The 9 (or 10?) slots my feature phone had were plenty for me but then I do not have 100+ contacts that I need to call in a hurry on a regular basis.

You have looked in the app store for speed dial apps though yes? I never thought to look until replying to your post but it seems there are others that feel the 'need for speed'..

I do feel Apple have other priorities over an old fashioned speed dial.

I know what speed dial is, long press a key (Like number 1) in keypad (In iPhione App) and it dials a number you have set it to dial, guess what, I just tried, it works.(Never knew I added that one and that it works)
