iPhone and iPad users who have installed the current iOS 12 beta are being plagued with a continual popup that suggests a new iOS update is available when it's not.

Affected users are seeing the following message: "A new iOS update is now available. Please update from the iOS 12 beta." The problem is users receiving this message are running the most recent version of iOS and there is no additional software to update to.

Beta testers have been seeing this popup since the latest beta was released on August 27, but over the course of the last day, the popups have become much more frequent.

Many users are now seeing the popup every time an iPhone or iPad running the beta is unlocked, and it is a popup that must be manually dismissed each and every time before an iOS device can be accessed.

Developer Guilherme Rambo has suggested that an error in the latest update causes the iOS beta to think that its expiration date is imminent, leading to the popup problem.

Complaints on Twitter and the MacRumors forums are picking up from users who are frustrated with having to continually dismiss the popup, and it's not clear when a fix will be available.

Guys, I realize this is a beta and we definitely don't usually point out bugs in betas, but this one is on a massive scale and it's pretty annoying. We had a lot of tweets from people wondering if it was just them, so I wanted to post to let people know that it's a well-known bug that appears to be impacting most if not all beta testers. I've asked Apple when we might expect a fix, and I'll update when I hear back.
Personally, I think that if you're running a beta you should already be involved in forum and support threads where this would be well known, but I think giving everyone a heads up is fine. Putting this on the front page with "users plagued" in big letters is just begging for the usual whinging, though.

There seems to be a widespread belief that "beta" just means "I get to run the new hotness at its newest and hottest" without recognizing the implications and responsibilities that go with early access.

This started happening to me everytime I would open my phone, so I was like, “holy cow, fine, I’ll update.” Only to find that there was no new update. My next thought was to check Mac Rumors to see if anyone else was having the problem. I opened the webpage and was treated with this article haha. Glad to know I’m not alone

I have started to see this in the last hour and googled to see if it was a thing and im glad im not the only one!

Im sure Apple will have a fix/update out tomorrow.

Yep. Also just started on my iPad Pro 10.5 about 3 hours ago and has been doing it most of the day on my iPhone 7 Plus.
Agreed! Started on my iPhoneX 3 hours ago. Every single unlock, half of my notification pulldowns, and sometimes just randomly. Not really a biggie in a beta phase for me. (80 times a day) I can deal I go through the unlock rigamarole a hundred times, adding one more click isn't killer. But yeah. Same timeframe!

Changing the date to before August 30 2018 is a temporary workaround if the message really bothers you.

I am assuming you mean editorially you don’t bring up bugs. But, I am sure it’s preaching to the choir that as a tester we should definitely be bringing these bugs up. They are counting on us a beta testers to help them get squashed.

This should not be happening in the 11th beta release of iOS 12. I can see the first 5 or 6, but 11, really...
