All that plus
1. Better folders. The screen size allow to fit a lot more that 9. It horribly low information density and increased clicking and swiping especially on iPad
2. Keyboard with numbers row toggle switch (preferably with by app option)
3. Live icons at least for Apple apps, things like time are already work that way, most icons should.
4. Proper support of tags in Mail app. So that Gmail would work well.
5. Possibility to improve Siri with things I can teach it.
6. More account and preference sync. Not everything is synced now. like missed calls.
7. More safari UI and UX customization
8. Abandon icloud ID via external email, use proper Apple IDs with apple services.
9. Improve Photos family features
10. Multi-user mode on iPad and iPod touch
11. Fix Music app, the interface is broken and full of bugs or make an old style app for non-Apple Music subscribers

Apple plans to introduce the next-generation version of iOS, iOS 12, on June 4 at its Worldwide Developers Conference. Rumors have suggested this is going to be a bug fix and performance improvement update, with Apple delaying some features until iOS 13 to focus on these internal changes.

There are, however, rumors that we may see updates that include cross-platform apps for Mac and iOS devices, new Animoji, Animoji support for FaceTime, updated parental controls, and an enhanced version of Do Not Disturb. Rumors never cover all of the features that we see in new versions of iOS, though, so there could be additional changes in the works.

With that in mind, we've taken a look at some of the most-desired features MacRumors readers are hoping for in iOS 12, pulled from our forums.

User Interface Changes

- Dark mode - Unsurprisingly, a system wide dark mode for iOS is one of the most hoped for features for iOS 12, just as it was for iOS 11 and iOS 10. Apple users have wanted a true dark mode for years, but there's no word that it's coming in iOS 12.

darkmodeconceptmail-800x554.jpg

A dark mode concept from iHelpBR
- Split Screen mode for iPhone - The option to run two apps side by side on the iPhone would be useful on larger iPhones, especially with rumors pointing towards a 6.5-inch iPhone in 2018.

- More customization - MacRumors reader Breezygirl would like to see Apple add more Android-like customization options, such as the ability to change the background in messages, adjust the SMS bubble colors, or add a theme to the OS to shift the colors.

- Desktop mode - On some Android devices, there's a feature where you can dock a smartphone to use it as a desktop machine replacement, attaching it to a larger display, a keyboard, and a mouse. It's a long shot, but MacRumors reader Marrakas would like to see Apple implement similar functionality.

- Volume redesign - The design of the indicator when you adjust the volume on the iPhone has always been a point of contention with iOS users, and so it's no surprise that in iOS 12, MacRumors readers are hoping for a new, less intrusive volume interface that takes up less screen space.

iphonevolumecontrol.jpg

[*]Improved battery widget - The battery widget could be improved by allowing all of a user's devices to be displayed for quick cross-device battery checks.
[*]No more shake to undo - Several MacRumors readers are tired of the shake to undo/redo feature in the iPhone, which can be activated accidentally. Some readers would like to see an undo feature enabled through a different gesture.

App Improvements

- Camera controls in the Camera app - On a lot of Android devices, the camera app provides manual controls for photo taking. Apple has no similar feature for full manual control, and it would be nice if it were an option, even one that had to be toggled on in Settings. Other settings are hidden in the Settings app, and users would like to see these more readily accessible.

- Aspect Ratio in Camera app - Multiple MacRumors readers would like to see an option to set a default aspect ratio for photos.

- FaceTime - Several MacRumors readers are hoping for group FaceTime. Rumors suggest Apple's working on it, but it might not come in iOS 12. Animoji are expected to come to FaceTime, though, so you can converse with friends and family as an Animoji character.

facetime-800x462.jpg

- App Store wishlists - The revamped App Store in iOS 11 removed app wishlists that some users took advantage of often. This is a feature that quite a few people miss.

- Photos improvements - MacRumors reader kirky29 is hoping for a major overhaul to the Photos app with a lot more functionality for doing things like viewing and editing metadata, changing grid size, altering the order of the photos, and more.

- Music app overhaul - MacRumors reader GermanSuplex has several suggestions for ways Apple could improve the Music app, including the ability to turn iCloud purchases off if desired, improved playcount syncing across devices, the ability to sort songs within playlists by different parameters, refinements and improvements to cloud services and the way the app handles metadata, more control over which devices playlists sync to, and better syncing of music content in general.

- Messages search and archive - A more robust search feature for the Messages app would be a welcome change, as would an option to archive messages and snooze messages, as Joseph H points out.

iPad

- Mouse support on iPad - This one is a long shot, but MacRumors reader boston04and07 wants to see Apple add mouse support for the iPad for navigating through apps.

- iPhone apps for iPad - Multiple iPhone apps, including Weather, Calculator, Health, and Activity are missing from the iPad and have been exclusive to the iPhone for years.

Settings and Systemwide Features

- Revamped Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Toggles - With iOS 11, Apple changed the functionality of the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles in the Control Center. These buttons no longer permanently turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and instead just disable the features for a set amount of time. In iOS 12, MacRumors readers would like to see the on/off functionality returned or enabled through another gesture, such as a longer press.

controlcenterwifitoggles-800x707.jpg

- Do Not Disturb improvements - Do Not Disturb functionality on the iPhone is fairly basic, and that is actually one of the features Apple's rumored to be working on for iOS 12. The ability to toggle DND on and off for specific apps would be useful, as boston04and07 points out, and being able to set schedules for different days of the week would also be useful. An option to hide notifications entirely would be a welcome change for those who want to use their devices in peace.

- Biometric locking for specific apps - Third-party apps can require you to use a fingerprint, Face ID, or a password to access sensitive data, but as MacRumors reader TimFL1 says, this isn't available for first-party apps like Photos, nor for specific parts of apps, like individual photo albums.

- iCloud notifications - If you have multiple devices and get a notification from an app like Apple News, it goes to all of your devices instead of just one, and viewing the notification on just one device doesn't clear it from all of them. If Apple implemented iCloud notifications, notifications would work more smoothly across devices, appearing on just one device and clearing on all.

iPhone X

- Always-on display for iPhone X - Some Android smartphones offer an always-on display, something that Apple could perhaps theoretically enable thanks to the OLED display on the iPhone X, which eats up less battery life. MacRumors readers would like to see an always-on display on the iPhone X for things like the time and incoming notifications, even though it's probably a long shot at this point in time.

AI

- Siri - Improvements to Siri was one of the most frequent requests, with specifics that include Spotify integration, multi-lingual query support, and, in general, just features to make Siri smarter and more like Alexa or Google Assistant.

More than anything, most of our readers are hoping that Apple is going to hunker down and focus on bug fixes and performance improvements to make existing features operate smoothly and without issues.

Apple is said to be planning to address stability and performance concerns in this update, and has gone as far as delaying planned features in favor of underlying fixes.

Do you have other features you're hoping to see in iOS 12 that didn't make our list? Let us know in the comments.

[doublepost=1527044634][/doublepost]I really want to be able to screen-share my local mac on my iPad!

Move the UNDO button away from the right of the space bar on the iPad number keyboard. I don't know how many times I have accidentally hit it and deleted a huge chunk of what I have written. Could just get rid of it as far as I am concerned -- I've never used it on purpose.

I would like a “Do Not Disturb” mode linked to Calendar, where DND is automatically set during meetings.

Windows Mobile had this year’s ago...

[doublepost=1527045976][/doublepost]I've always wanted an option to mark text messages as unread. I can't tell you how many times I've read a text, tried to remember to do something from it, and then forgotten it was there.

New Bells and Whistles are always appreciated. But First Polish and shine iOS 11 so that iOS 12 wont have all the quirks and annoyances of iOS 11. Nothing better than a smooth running system !!!!

A very good list, thanks MacRumors! The only thing is that now, I can only get disappointed by iOS 12. I'm not a programmer, but it seems that many of these ideas wouldn't be so technically difficult to implement, and would greatly improve the user experience. Anyway, if half of the list, or the quarter, makes it in a year or two, I would be incredibly satisfied!

I love how everyone does their here’s what I want to sew in the new iOS....2 weeks before WWDC. Both Rene Ritchie and Jason Snell just did something similar. Hey guys how about 6 or 9 months earlier when if Apple sees it they might take it into consideration? What good does it do now when the feature set is locked? Other than raise expectations that Apple of course won’t meet.
Most of the ideas have circulated for many years, without any changes in the new iOS. So I guess the timing doesn't change a thing for Apple.

Dark mode, dark mode, and uh...dark mode.

Ummm does anyone use the new “Smart Invert” accessibility option? Works great in a lot of apps to get a “dark mode” that doesn’t mess with photo color.

Also, there’s a Zoom Filter function I use as my accessibility shortcut for Low Light that allows you to dim your display brightness wayyyy below the normal amount. Triple click my side button and it’s much easier on the eyes at night.

Personally, I’m hoping for Siri with better context, conversation threads, and a little more wit. I imagine these will be standard upgrades every year the way the market is running right now. Especially with Google Duplex making AI calls!!

I’d also dig collaboration in Apple Music for playlists. And support for multiple Bluetooth audio devices (AirPods), which would probably come with AirPods 2 with AirPlay 2, but same idea/execution.

I really like how iPhone users want things that have been on my Android or Windows phones for eons. Dark mode, better notifications, and speed and ease of use since marshmallow.
JK all! You'll get there 1 day.

Speed? Ease of use? Already have that. You sure this isn’t Opposite Day?

Being able to doc your phone and use like a desktop sounds very interesting. At first I thought the android version of this was a bit of a gimmick, but with the power of the A series processors, this could be useful.
Windows phones have had Continuim for a few years. Fairly productive in a pinch

Just reading through the wishes of the users. It does blow me away iPhones are so severely lacking such features.

Ios definitely needs extra steps Android users don't have to take to do the same thing. Lol how people explain on this thread with Bluetooth. I just pull down action center, toggle on or off or long press to go to bt.

- a non-grid home screen
Apps across all products are now laid out consistently in the Watch honeycomb pattern
- different volume interface
The screen blur effect on volume changes will now temporarily affect the entire screen rather than a small area in the center

Actually more seriously - what do so many people apparently dislike about the volume UI? I could understand people not liking the UX (not knowing if the button is changing app, ringer, or Siri volume)... but the pop-up?

- revamped notifications
Notification text size has changed to a 24 pt font, and notification popups have tripled in size to accommodate the new easier-to-read notifications.

Careful what you wish for :D

This has nothing to do with iOS, but I would love to see a replaceable battery.

notification-screens-ios-6-7-10-11.jpg
I would really love to see:
1: Better Notifications, currently the Notification Centre is horrible, I really liked iOS 6 Notification Centre, the stocks widget was taking less space (even on a smaller phone), it was continuous scrolling, there were group notifications. Notification Center has been tweeted almost in all os versions since iOS 7 occasions but not perfect yet.
2: Stability across the system, off-ocurse, the frame rate has dropped on iPhone 6s.
3: App similar to Dashboard in Android P, just to see how many unlocks in a day & App time etc.
4: Offline Siri, just to do basic tasks, like Increasing volume, brightness, calling a person, restarting, connecting to Wifi, Cellular Data.

People are asking for dark mode since ages, don't know when will they implement. Also people want new UI, accepted, the OS UI hasn't changes much since iOS 7, & its been 5 iterations, it must change in iOS 12, but there were rumours since Jan 2018 that iOS 12 is all about stability & improvements, so if people are asking for change of grid icons & all fancy things, I would suggest, first fix all those irritating issues of iOS 10, iOS 11, make it stable & then improve from there.

Bluetooth device naming in iOS. I've got 12 bluetooth devices paired with my phone and I want to name them. Several of them are the same device but different locations and not all connect automatically. Simple names like Living room, classroom speaker, Jeep, etc would be awesome!

iPhone support for Apple Pencil. Ok. I know that is hardware but I want it anyway.

Fix navigation so that screen doesn’t go blank during driving because FaceID can’t see my face...

Strange... So people basically want Android on an iPhone. Isn't it easier to buy some good Android phone instead of waiting year after year for these features?

No new features. Get the os working properly at first release rather than waiting for months until it’s stable and smooth.

Mandatory split screen support for non-game 3rd party apps. It's ridiculous that split screen on my iPad Pro does not work on arbitrary Google apps for example. Adding support should be only a few lines of code.

Stop these "only available on device X" features if there is not a true technical reason to not have it. Split screen should be available on iPhone - let the users decide if they want to use the feature or not.

Same for things like cellular download limits, I've got unlimited data so I don't want to connect to a WiFi to download some app just because Apple bases their design choices on California-centric **** tier mobile services.

On the stock keyboard I am still left wanting for Finnish prediction (something you can find on almost every keyboard on Android) and not having prediction when typing on the stock keyboard in Safari address bar is just a stupid decision from Apple when few actually use it to type URLs and instead use it as a search bar.

Apple needs to stop trying to dictate how users want to use their device. They think they know better but they really, really don't.
