I see some folks complaining about iOS 13 but I love it. Dark mode, better maps, Siri can read my texts to me, way better photo editing built in, swipe typing built in... I’d hate to go back to iOS 12.

Edit: oh man I forgot about “Silence Unknown Callers”! That is a lifesaver, puts all unknown callers straight to voicemail.

Skewed stat, but what do you expect when you're nagged everyday and/or can't/don't turn off auto-update. I'll stick to 11.2.5 thank you.

They nag you to death with daily reminders that requires multiple screen progression before you can go back to using the watch or phone or iPad. Nice to know that some people can still resist the 1984 approach that Apple takes to force "updates" which many times eliminate uses or possibilities. "Security" should not mean, you can't do this anymore.

I got off the update train at 13.4.1

Feels great knowing my phone won't keep getting slower and hotter with worse battery life any more!!!

Am still rocking iOS 11 on my iPhone X and a Mojave Beta release (4th) on my MacBook Pro :3

11 was terrible.

12 and 7.1.4 were the best.

I wish everything I had was still on 12.

Imo one of the reason Apple could do this is because they continued making their phones in the last 3 years or so, and they come with the latest iOS out of the box. For example, I bought an iPhone 7+ earlier this year, a phone that was originally released in 2016, and it came with iOS13 out of the box.

In contrast with Android, usually every year they completely refresh their lineup, leaving the previous years' models with whatever OS version it was originally released. At least that's my experience.

I am against Apple's nagging updates, that being said, unlike Catalina, I dont see why anybody doesnt want the latest iOS 13.

It works great and everything.

I think a more accurate number would be the percentage that made a decision to want the update irrespective of automatic download/install or manually triggering the install.
I know (in my heart of hearts) that apple has that information, but would be a snowballs chance in you know where for publishing them.

IPP 11 G2 and Pro Max: both on 13.5
Installed 13.5.1 on my IPP. Started having battery issues and problems with the lockscreen. Moved my IPP to PB and installed 13.6 as 13.5 was no longer being signed.
My Pro Max is still on 13.5 and I want to skip 13.5.1 especially as I cannot go back if 13.5.1 also gives me issues.

If Apple still signed 13.5 I would give 13.5.1 a shot on my Pro Max.

What would that provide for developers?

I always update. I keep hoping that some of the bugs I have will be squashed. Either the bugs don't get squashed, or new ones get introduced. Either way, I keep updating.

Could you provide some examples?

I always update the OS and apps whenever available. I know I've run into bugs before. But I can't remember any. I don't recall having any that were a serious issue.

email still doesn’t work quite right on iOS 13, though it’s much better than it was for the first 5 or 6 updates to it. Other than than iOS 13 seems to have finally gotten pretty stable.

At this time not much. Devs will likely focus on the greater number.
What it would do is provide a more accurate depiction of forced to update vs choosing to update for public understanding. I have run into more than a few folks that feel they “have” to update.

It's not really related to focusing on a greater number of anything like that, simply that that kind of a statistic wouldn't really be of much use to developers as opposed to the statistic that is provided.

I love the people who think they are cool being on an older operating system 😂. Welcome to security issues.

If all previous versions of iOS have security issues, it’s logical to assume the current iOS has security issues. Not the same, but probably the same amount.

While there's likely at least some of that in play, the difference there is that the older issues are mostly known in a wider manner with more time for exploits to be designed and become available.

I think they have stopped doing that as they realised that it made them look like douches. Also, virtually no one outside of forums like these cares.

I have a Mk1 Pixel as it still has free unlimited full-res photo uploads. It still works fine, despite not having any new updates since last year. Of course I would prefer it to continue to have updates and am definitely not going to defend Google's decisions (on frankly anything hardware or software related) but it certainly doesn't keep me awake at night that it doesn't.
90% of the time it's not Google but the carriers. Why provide you with an update unless it affects them. Want an update, upgrade your phone. That's the carrier's mentality. So unless you purchase a flagship android phone (you know the ones priced similar to Apple's) or a support Google Pixel you can expect little to no updates from the carrier for the life of the phone.

Yeah Apple, deactivate my 9.7 Pro on iOS 9 and force it to iOS 12, killing battery life and performance, disallow downgrades, crippling every single iOS device in existence. Just to brag. FFS.

I knew someone, briefly, who was trying to cling to their original iPhone 1.0. Are those things still able to work now?

Some people, huh... An iPhone 1 would be a curiosity, not something I would actually use.

I would like to see their face when they find out that the reason it's not working is because they are too cheap to upgrade. Um... 🤷‍♂️
At my office the company has a display of every console from Atari 2600 up until the Dreamcast, every mobile phone from Palm to iPhone 4 and Mac from Macintosh SE to the iMac (one with the monitor arm)

I have a shoebox with at least one model from each generation of iPhone. Haven’t tried turning those old ones on,lately.

One of the 1st rules of cyber security, keep your operating system up to date.

Awesome! I found my old Handspring. It was a good phone. A long long time ago...

I tried charging my old Palm Treo. The battery swelled up and almost exploded. Just say no! Tangent warning: I have a box of most of the Bluetooth ear buds I have had over the years. Numerous Motorola and BlueAnt buds, and the original Apple one that ROCKED! I listed the 'box' on ebay, and someone bid $300.00 for it. And didn't pay. They still work, I assume. I've got multiple charger cords for the Apple bud too. But old IT stuff? Be careful trying to use it again.

I had a first gen Nano. Charged it up, and the battery swelled and cracked the case. Apple just said 'We'll recycle it for you' *sigh*
