Some of these updates are people that had the update FORCED on them, like my wife and she is super-angry at this.

Apple did no forcing. If it was her employer, or something else, well, all bets are off. But either the iOS device has automatic updates on, and it did what it was allowed to do by the owner, or automatic updates are off and the most it did was show that the update was available.

Let's see... to install the upgrade, I needed to:
  1. Open Settings > General > Software Update
  2. Read about the upgrade and then click on "Download".
  3. Provide my device's PIN code.
  4. Click "Install" once the download had finished.

Gee, Apple, quit twisting my arm!

Meanwhile, this year alone there were more Android phones sold than iPhones sold in the last four years combined. So, in all likelihood there are more Android users on the latest version of Android than iPhone users on iOS 13.
I hope those Europeans still trying to make Apple out to be a monopoly do read your post. Now they are fussing about Apple Pay??

.. and 99% regrets TvOs13 pushed to the Apple Tv with "automatic update" off: I'm sure Tim Cook is happy and maybe 2 or 3 others at Apple headquarters.

After all I read I really DIDN"t want to update, but few days ago starting the :apple:TV, it was already proceeding to update it and my is off since ever!

tvOS 13 is actually an improvement over tvOS 12, at least in my brief experience. I had just purchased a new top-end AppleTV 4K, and was not impressed with the new remote and tvOS 12. But when I installed tvOS 13, the experience was vastly improved. Very happy with it.

The upgrade did not install automatically. Was this happening for others without their consent?

The latest version of Android OS was released September 3, 2019 and though there are a lot of "smart phones" that use the Android OS not many actually sell with the latest version. So, not only is your comment irrelevant, it is patently incorrect. Thanks for trolling by, though.

You are confused. There is no single version of Android. Each vendor has their own version. So, just like iPhone users are (or are not) on the latest version of Apple's OS, so are, say, Samsung users on the latest version of Samsung OS. You are talking about Google's Android. But this one is targeted only to Google phones. And, Samsung version of Android usually has way more features than the Google's one.

Not sure what these disasters are. iOS 13 running GREAT on my XR and the gf's iPhone 7S. Super-smooth upgrade, zero issues, zero complaints.
While there were some well known bugs with mail.app, etc I have not had that negative experience that a few have been vocal about. I also don’t use the built-in mail app so that is also a factor. Overall I am happy with iOS 13, some people just like complaining for the sake of it.

This is one reason why I stick to iOS due to the annual updates for security issues that is something that ticks me off about Android OS on none goggle branded hardware.

I've never seen a site more full of hatred to a brand they supposedly love. iOS 13 has been great for me so far. Only issue was bluetooth cutting out but that has been fixed in a timely manner. Some of you need to step back and realize things aren't as bad as you make it out to be. Now back to enjoying my super smooth 11 pro max.

Apple does a good job of pumping up those #'s by issuing public betas.
How many of those were already on a developer or public beta?

This as of Oct 15.. how does beta exist? the benchmark is IOS13... the flavor doesn't matter

Apple does all kinds of tricks to make you update. They'll make the update notice look like a password screen, so you enter your password in an attempt to unlock your iPhone to use and next thing you know it will start upgrading overnight cause you just entered your password, confirming the upgrade. Add the constant nagging and you might slip up and upgrade by accident.

You and me both... Nothing but nitpicking and bashing. Gets tiresome a times

Not taking sides but there is partial truth to both claims. It all depends on the Android hardware manufacturer and what version of Android is released in 2019 either version P or 10, and what update is released promptly. On my Nvidia Shield I get AndroidTV OS promptly and Google branded hardware also gets the latest versions for two years. Other hardware manufacturers is a hit or miss, it all depends on the cost of the device as the low margines on those devices does not provide a financial incentive for updates but rather to purchase new hardware as portion also deals with the capability of the device.

One of the reasons I stick to iOS due to annualized updates due to security concerns, though not perfect but better.

Why does everything have to be one thing is better than the other? People need to stop this childish attitude.

The percentage of Android phones introduced in the last four years running the current release is probably something like 5%. This is one of the reasons Android phones are worthless on eBay after a couple years.

These apple iOS upgrade rates prove most users don't care about OS updates.

Meanwhile, over on Android....

I am a happy Samsung Galaxy S8+ owner and I've said this many times before.

Google and the Android O.E.M.'s should be embarrassed by this. Sadly, they are not.

Apple and Microsoft do an incredible job with software updates.

To give credit where credit is due, the only reason Microsoft does such a great job now is because Apple made them look so bad in the past. But Microsoft learned and evolved. So good on them.

I’ve seen a lot of various spin used to justify the utterly pathetic state of Android updates, but this one takes the cake.

Are you actually trying to claim that Android on Samsung is a different version? Do you know anything about how Android is licensed to companies (like Samsung)?

Your wife is ”...super angry...” the onus is on her, the update was not FORCED on her. Teach her how to turn off auto updates: Settings > General > Software Updates> Automatic Updates. Problem solved.
