Some of these updates are people that had the update FORCED on them, like my wife and she is super-angry at this.

Turning on automatic updates (which is turned off by default) is not "forced."

I can PROUDLY say... not my devices.

Following the advice of forum trolls is nothing to be proud of.

I am a happy Samsung Galaxy S8+ owner and I've said this many times before.

Google and the Android O.E.M.'s should be embarrassed by this. Sadly, they are not.

Apple and Microsoft do an incredible job with software updates.

To give credit where credit is due, the only reason Microsoft does such a great job now is because Apple made them look so bad in the past. But Microsoft learned and evolved. So good on them.
Why should Google and Android OEMs be embarrassed? They still have the majority of market share, and the OEMs make money from selling new phones, not updating old ones. Besides, I don’t see any tech reviewers say anything about updates when they reviewed an Android phone. Just buy a new one. Problem solved.

Yes , there are few threads of people having terrible picture ,no airplay from iPad, just the sound etc
Probably AppleTv 4k works but not for TV4 like the one I have

Few more on Apple Forum https://discussions.apple.com/thread/250680430?page=1
and then I stop here
A guy was lucky to go to the apple store and get a new one because he still was under warranty
Mine worked so well till 12.4.1

Wait. Are you telling me that software can have latent defects or work improperly under certain scenarios?

Shocking, just shocking!!!!!

That NEVER happens with anything made by Samsung, Microsoft, Google, etc.

Buggy release, but I like the attempt at a swathe of new features.

I'd be curious how gun shy Apple are to post the Catalina numbers. I had to send a couple of warnings to a client of mine who is a large creative agency filled with Macs - please don't update under any circumstances... thank goodness they listened so far.

You do realize that a sizable portion of people avoid upgrades because they either don’t care about them, don’t think they have time to mess with them, or they are afraid of them, right? The fact that the update is free doesn’t matter.

The rest of the world doesn’t sit on MR at 1 PM ET on iOS launch day while furiously tapping ‘General —> Software Update’ over and over, lamenting on this board that their iPhone still says it’s ‘up to date’ on the previous version of iOS.
There are those, like me, who have not even received any pushed OTA update to iOS 13. My 6S is still on 12.4.1 and no notification for ios13. Most people don’t even know about iOS version and will only act when there’s an actual nudge to upgrade.

Heck, this might even show how many people on iPhone 6/6 Plus, who are stuck with iOS 12. Remember that the iPhone 6/6 Plus were the best selling iPhone ever. It would be interesting if there’s a breakdown on device models.

Meanwhile, this year alone there were more Android phones sold than iPhones sold in the last four years combined. So, in all likelihood there are more Android users on the latest version of Android than iPhone users on iOS 13.

Do you have stats for that?

rough life your wife lives if something that small makes her “super angry”

No doubt.

Wait, so let me get this straight. Apple "forces" people to upgrade to the latest iOS by: 1) forcing you to buy a new phone. 2) forcing you to break your phone and get a replacement. 3) offering bug fixes and security improvements as a solution to bugs and security issues.

If those aren't rock solid examples of Apple forcing people to upgrade, I don't know what is.

If you want any fixes done at an apple store, they first force you to update.

Meanwhile apple can't give away free updates.

Did you read the article? over 50% have upgraded in just the last few weeks. Your comment is factually specious.

55% people have fallen victim of this disaster?
Damn!

What disaster? My iOS devices are all working fine. So much drama, so little reality.

Honestly, you can have your features first. I'd rather have features that are not half-baked (to be fixed in a later release) upon release: smart hdr, dynamic hdr in videos, airdrop, facetime, imessage, that android is sorely behind the curve in.
Android has all of this (just not named imessage or facetime).

Sure. iPhone has 12% market share. Android sells 7x more phones, so in one year as many Android phones get sold as the last 7 years combined for iPhone.

Funny, it takes Android phones at least 2-4 years to even get the latest release. Even if they do receive the latest release, they won’t be able to get next years or the year after due to fragmentation.

Meanwhile, the iPhone 6s released in 2015 can run iOS 13. That’s longer than a majority of Android devices....

When there’s a pushed OTA on Android, depending on the OEM, there will be a permanent notification as well. That is if you’re actually getting updates.
I have had Motorola phones. There’s no notification of an update. I have to go in the settings and check if there’s an update. That’s how it was on the iOS until just a few years ago. These update reminders are extremely obnoxious and frankly intrusive. There should be a class-action suit to stop Apple from so intrusively imposing their software updates on their customers.

It's a shame apple didn't include night mode feature with the camera for older iOS devices, could have helped with the upgrade rates.
You do realize that Night Mode can only happen on the new iPhone 11’s due to upgraded sensors, along with improvements in the chip. It’s not like Apple can push an update on hardware via software🙄

Every single manufacturer does dynamic hdr in videos and came out first in Android and does it as well as Apple, considering apple is the gold standard with this? Messages and video calling are a mess in android.

(HDR has been around for ages. Both Apple and Android copied the concept)

That’s a lot of talk without actually saying anything. Samsung phones run Android. Samsung has to pass the Compatibility Test Suite to ensure their devices can run Apps from Google Play without issues. It’s not some custom version of Android that only runs Samsung Apps.

Years ahead? More lies. Android has some things iOS lacks while iOS has some things Android lacks. Overall iOS and the ecosystem is superior since I can actually run high-end Apps instead of the Fisher Price ones you get.
So, Samsung Android can run Android apps. And? MacOS can run iOS apps. Are they the same OS? Most (all?) apps from the leading software vendors get released on both platforms. Unless you are trying hard to find some apps that are available only on iOS platform, it's not really an issue. Not for a long time. In fact there are way more apps (and more types of apps) in Play Store than in App Store. I doubt you compared all 2 millions of them. Just as an example, you won;t find things like Nova Launcher (or any launcher), NBA on TNT VR, Tasker on iOS.

So basically telling the user there is an update is intrusive and should be followed by a class-action suit? With so many users, hundreds of millions, there will never be agreement on anything.

Or it wouldn't have made a difference. If one wants night mode, without an iphone 11, get an app from the app store. The $4.99 is a heck of lot cheaper than a new phone, although the hardware gets it done better as shown in comparisons between iphone and other android handsets.

Constantly bugging the user with the update reminders is intrusive. Can these reminders be turned off?

iOS 13 will likely be the least adopted iOS version in history. There's still untold millions of iPhone 6 and earlier iPhones out there in current use that have been barred from the update
