Apple takes the hit to foster good customer service in other areas. They do not data mine like google for example even when they have the perfect opportunity to do so. Let us not pretend. No price drop after removing components? Just say you own stocks but from a consumer standpoint it’s ********.

Again I will ask you. What has Apple removed from the iPads that ship with Lidar?

If that’s causing you to get so wound up, simply purchase a Samsung phone. Easy.

Apple could easily solve that problem by giving people who actually need an adaptor a voucher or discount if they buy at the same time as the phone.
This is what I’m hoping for. A lot of people have the 5W chargers kicking around, sure, but the 18W adapters were introduced with the 11 series. And if the 12’s take a 20W charger then that is brand new. Nobody has extra of those laying around.

If they offer a voucher for a free one, they still save the environment. Those who don’t need one don’t waste anything, but those who are coming over from Android or finally upgrading their 6s will be able to charge their new phone still.

You're seriously trying to convince us that you don't own a single USB charger? Not a single charger? Or is your story that you need to have one unique special charger for each device, and none of your devices can share chargers.

I don’t own a single USB C charger and I bet not everyone does

I think it’s a mistake to not include the adapter just yet. Their iPhone supposedly will still include the lightning port as of this point which is frankly quite ridiculous. And most consumers are quite technologically illiterate especially when it comes to knowing about “fast charging” and “18w” etc... they will be buying cheap garbage gas station bricks as always. And apple will have missed out on money saved/made from this move lol. And a large percentage of users still don’t have a usb c device to charge their phones with with the new cable they will be shipping as well. I someone highly into tech and knowledgeable didn’t get my first usb c adapter or device until the iPad Pro 2020. Let’s not also forget most people are arguing that people have left over adapters from years past. So Usb A adapters? And the new cable they are shipping with the phones works with them how? But like that matters because I have a lot of friends (which it really p’s me off) that constantly are loosing their adapters anyways. It’s insane and beyond me how on earth they do so. And off to the gas station they go again for their adapter. 👿 To summarize.. include the adapter... Make the iPhone usb c.. and wait a little bit longer for the market to completely transition (already has for the most part it’s just apple we’re waiting on) Either way this is all a money move. Not a save the earth move.

It's a good thing Apple and practically every store sells them. I know you think it makes sense to make a 100 million of them just so you have one and won't have to spend the money. You'll save money and what's a 100 million wasted cables for the environment as long as you get a cable right? 🤷‍♂️

I think the backlash will be big. I personally don’t care about either, as I have plenty of both and I definitely don’t need their cheap headphones that sound like $5 Chinese knockoffs. An average Joe will probably be disappointed though.

How is this reducing packaging and environmental waste if I have to order a power supply or headphones from someone else and they have to ship it to me in a separate box through a separate carrier as part of a separate transaction?

I'm so tired of this feel-good nonsense that doesn't actually have a net positive at all. In fact, it's a net negative. Well done Tim.

Are you sure you know the math on that? Maybe they figure 2/3 of people won't need to go ordering a separate power supply and headphones (I won't), so it's a net gain. I don't think you have the info to know either way, but I'm guessing Apple at least has some survey data. And of course, every additional iPhone released in the future leads to fewer wasted power supplies and earbuds, unless you vow to buy a new one from another vendor every time to make sure Apple is wrong :)...

You are one person.

Apple sells 200 million iPhones each year. Most of which are going to customers that have no need for yet another charging adapter. Even if half of their customers don’t buy a separate adapter or delay the purchase of one...well, 100 million times anything is a big number.

Personally I have about 2x as many USB ports in my home and in my car than I have AC wall adapters.

If the iPhone is too thin to accomodate a 3.5 mm headphone jack, then it’s too thin!

no one needs a 5w charging brick or EarPods. I'm glad Apple removed them so that they can spend some of the extra money saved in other areas of the product. people who think Apple is simply pocketing the extra money that was saved by not including these extra accessories are likely wrong.

Like when Apple stopped including Apple care for education purchases in the UK?

Tim Cook's Apple is one of beancounters.
