The government takes modern cars and wants us to drive them like we have clunkers from the 60's still. Waze and Apple wouldn't have a speed trap function if the government would get with the real world instead of their fantasy land.

Following the government's speed limits is like me having to purposely throttle my 2020 Mac's speed to match that of a computer back in 1989.
No it's not. Your car might have AWD, lane assistance, auto braking, night vision and whatnot - you still need to abide by the laws of physics and the human reaction time hasn't improved by a millisecond since the 1960's.

I live in a somewhat rural area. The rate of speed tourists from the city think is appropriate tells me they've never seen a moose.

Traffic engineers will say a road is designed to accommodate 75 mph speed limits. Some politician will walk in and demand it be 65 instead. The reaction argument is weak. Keep your distance from other cars... Something that's easily done if everyone would just drive like a normal person instead of having the few that are always on "Sunday cruise" mode.

Whether you're going 65 or 80, the damage will still be barely if at al different. The fact that everyone drives above the speed limit means the rates are too low to be reasonable. The fact that people have to constantly "look down" at the speedometer instead of driving naturally proves this.

Our local police are waiting on Carmarthen roundabout this evening in their BMW 530d (CV19 BHP). They usually stop random motorists because crime no longer exists :D

Rather than requiring multiple reports they should figure out how to measure report accuracy and trust reports from 1 reliable user.

Do these features (Speed traps, hazards, traffic cams, etc) only work in an active route? I really want to uninstall other map/GPS apps.

For these features to work effectively you need scale of users. I know no one who uses Apple maps. Waze all the way
Waze is a "waze of time". It has been always a mess and buggy in my experience especially CarPlay. Apple Maps isn’t too late to join the party here considering how much attention their new maps is getting.

any kind of interaction like this (the UI) with the phone while driving is illegal in California (and elsewhere I assume).
So quite frankly, promoting the UI interaction in the article is irresponsible.

Can't wait for the folks who will say "you shouldn't speed anyways." Right, like there's one person on the road that's never exceeded the ridiculously low speed limits the government wants us to follow. The government takes modern cars and wants us to drive them like we have clunkers from the 60's still. Waze and Apple wouldn't have a speed trap function if the government would get with the real world instead of their fantasy land.

why don't you move to Germany then?

I have two speeds: stop and go!

Last year even though people spent less time driving, traffic deaths increased. Speeding was the number one reason. Do some basic research before leaving comments.

Finally, getting sick of how buggy the Waze app is in carplay. Even Google maps is starting to report police speedtraps.
