Rather than requiring multiple reports they should figure out how to measure report accuracy and trust reports from 1 reliable user.
I suspect they won’t exclusively require multiple reports. Multiple maps users encountering an unexpected slowdown could potentially be used to validate a single report.

In iOS 14.5 and later, Apple has added a Waze-like feature to its native Maps app that lets you report accidents, hazards, and speed checks along your route when getting directions. Keep reading to learn how it works.

Driving on public roads can throw up all sorts of hazards, but if you're given prior warning then you can be better prepared to deal with them. Apple recognizes this, which is why it allows you to report incidents in Maps for the benefit of other users. If you see something dangerous on your route that you want to warn others about, you can do so by following the steps below.

Note that the Report feature described here is also available through CarPlay, which should make it easier to report an incident when you're driving, when ideally you shouldn't be interacting with your phone.

How to Report Speed Checks and Traffic Incidents in Apple Maps

  1. In Apple's Maps app, enter an address in the input field and select a route.
  2. Choose Go and start your journey.
If you come across a hazard, accident, or speed check, bring up the options card by tapping the chevron icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Tap the Report button in the menu card, then tap Accident, Hazard, or Speed Check. Alternately, say "Hey ‌Siri‌, there's an [accident/hazard/speed check]" and ‌Siri‌ will send in a report to ‌Apple Maps.

Reporting an incident flags the location with Apple, so it shouldn't be used except in a valid situation. If enough people file similar reports in the same location, Apple will use anonymized crowdsourcing to flag the incident site on the map.

I am from Canada, and I’m not sure if this feature is available here? I ran the update today, and tried this feature but the report button is not There. I appreciate the ability to now add a stop in route. That’s a feature that should’ve been there from the beginning. I was really looking forward to the report option. Let me know if anyone in Canada was able to get this working

50% of the autobahn has strict speed limits these days. Lots of speed cameras everywhere too — like the UK.
yep, and the other 50% have a construction zone every 10 km :)
I am actually originally from Germany, used to drive average 100-110 mph ... whenever I come back to CA from visiting I find it so relaxing here :)

I'm based in Singapore and I'm not seeing the Report option. Is it the US only?

This is great but I wish you can report road especially freeway closures too. So irritating when navigation takes me to a freeway that is completely closed off, then I pass the closed junction and it keeps updating the route to get onto the closed freeway. I have to turn it off and manually find a detour. Usually happens late at night and can sometimes double my commute time. This has even happened for the same freeway closure multiple nights in a row. Somehow the scheduled closure just wasn’t in the system. If I can report, at least I can help prevent this for others.

It requires multiple reports? Hm. I get it for quality control, but in rural areas that may not happen.
Technically all you need is to hit the brake pedal on a stretch of road where that wouldn't normally be required, and if your GPS is active Apple Maps will flag a potential hazard, showing it on the map and re-routing people after a certain number of other people have done the same.

Manually flagging hazards will just make the existing system more accurate.

Kind of lame to have it work only when you have a set destination. I know where my local Target is so why we would I need directions? The road there has a nice little curve where the police like to hide out. It would be nice to say “speed trap ahead” and having it logged then to not do it at all.

Yeah, they really need a driving mode that kicks in after you crack a certain speed.

Can't wait for the folks who will say "you shouldn't speed anyways." Right, like there's one person on the road that's never exceeded the ridiculously low speed limits the government wants us to follow. The government takes modern cars and wants us to drive them like we have clunkers from the 60's still. Waze and Apple wouldn't have a speed trap function if the government would get with the real world instead of their fantasy land.

Following the government's speed limits is like me having to purposely throttle my 2020 Mac's speed to match that of a computer back in 1989.
The only thing I would say is don't run into stuff with your car.

Wait, why is that CarPlay Screen right down the road from me. Someone from MacRumors must live nearby I guess.

Traffic engineers will say a road is designed to accommodate 75 mph speed limits. Some politician will walk in and demand it be 65 instead. The reaction argument is weak. Keep your distance from other cars... Something that's easily done if everyone would just drive like a normal person instead of having the few that are always on "Sunday cruise" mode.

Whether you're going 65 or 80, the damage will still be barely if at al different. The fact that everyone drives above the speed limit means the rates are too low to be reasonable. The fact that people have to constantly "look down" at the speedometer instead of driving naturally proves this.
65 vs 80 damage barely different?

You need to study Ek=1/2*m*v**2 as it says that kinetic energy increases based on the square of velocity. All other things held equal, speed plays the most significant part in crash damage, all other things not held equal it still does.

Last year even though people spent less time driving, traffic deaths increased. Speeding was the number one reason. Do some basic research before leaving comments.
2019 saw 1,752 deaths on UK roads — more or less unchanged since 2012. The highest figure was set in 1941 — 9,169. In terms of injury numbers, speeding was ranking the 10th most significant cause.

(Stats: GOV.UK, Department of Transport)

I looked the report you’re referring to and it includes all vehicle crashes with injuries (over 100000) this is probably why speeding ends up 10th on the list, if the report was only talking about fatal crashes I’m sure speeding would also be the top reason in the UK. Speed kills

Is this USA only?

Damn it. Nothing in Denmark. Sad really looking forward to this one…

Still not available in Australia

it’s a US only feature. After all, this is Apple Maps we’re talking about. It takes years, possibly a decade, for Apple to roll out features on an international scale. We can complain all we want about Google, but they go global at launch. Meanwhile, the list of missing Apple features and products in my country (Belgium) gets longer instead of shorter.

Politicians decide the speed limit in your country? In any civilized country this would be determined by a government or local agency depending on the road type and location.

I'll agree with you about the distance. This is a common mistake I see among the ones speeding - they drive too fast, too close and have way too tight margins. It's not about the Sunday cruise drivers though - you are responsible for keeping your distance to other cars.

Like others have already stated - you are mistaken about a lot of what you say. The fact that everyone drives above the speed limit is mostly due to the "it doesn't happen to me because I'm better than everyone else" mentality. You also don't need to look down at the speedometer all the time - I have enough hours behind the wheel in my car that I can hear and feel when I'm going the correct speed.

Any scientific study I've seen on this subject ranks speed as one of the top few causes of serious accidents.
