Created… same general democratic process, sure. Enforcement? Absolutely identical. The speed limit that’s posted is 10 mph lower than what you really drive, and 20 km/h lower than what you really drive in Metric.
Our governments are not the same. The US government is way more corrupt towards the middle class than the Canadian government. Look at the Coronavirus response differences as just one example.

US politicians create laws based on bribes from lobbyists (insurance companies, trucking industries, etc) and how much they get from them. Insurance companies line the pockets of politicians so the rest of us have to drive like we’re in a parade most of the time.

Tell me. How's Canada's response to Covid right now?

I hear it's stellar!

We had a moron running the show for all of 2020 and despite his best efforts to destroy the country, we're STILL doing better in America and now we have a competent leader so it's only getting better.

Oh... and Canada has lobbying too. There's even a commissioner for it. And while the claim "it's better than America" may hold water... you're not talking about a massive difference. With such a smaller population than the US, the "less bad" lobbying will tear democracy apart there quicker than here.

Canada’s treatment of the middle class is way different than that of the US.

I am no longer talking about this with you because it’s completely off topic and you have no credible experiences with US government.

Uhhh... I am an American. So I have very credible experience with the US government. I also live in Buffalo, so I can throw things at Canada and have had CBC as a cable channel for 40 years, so I'm also well versed on their current events. Canada isn't a foreign country here, or in Detroit... it's the next town over. The only notable difference you'd see crossing over are different numbers on the road signs, and skinny traffic cones.

Waze is years ahead of Apple Maps. Waze algorithms are far superior to Apple Maps for dynamic re-routing. As a road warrior, I trust Waze anyday over Apple Maps. As recently as yesterday afternoon (after upgrading to 14.5), I found that Waze' fastest route is faster than Apple's fastest route.

Is there a way to mark a reported thing as “Not There” similar to Waze?

Yes.

For now, reporting incidents is limited to the US and China

  • When driving while using Apple Maps navigation, use a Siri command like “there’s a crash up ahead,” “there’s something on the road,” “there’s a speed check,” or even “the accident has been cleared.”
    • Siri will confirm by saying something like “Ok, sending report”
  • For passengers, you can manually report incidents
    • Tap the up arrow in the bottom right corner, then choose Report
    • Now you can choose “Accident,” “Hazard,” or “Speed Check”
    • For accidents already showing up on Apple Maps, you can tap them and choose between “Cleared” and “Still Here”

I agree.

On the flip side you are among the very few that have
Maps: Congestion Zones
whatever that is.

Congestion Zones are areas where it is no longer allowed to drive old, polluting cars, for instance in some cities in Belgium, France, ...

Apple Maps shows the area as soon as you enter driving directions. And it gives a warning while driving. it’s a nice feature. I assume this doesn’t exist in the US, otherwise AM would definitely support it. But you‘re right: it’s nice they bothered to support something that is not relevant for the US.

I have a SERIOUS problem with any app pointing out “speed checks” or “speed traps”.
Slow the F down. Period.
I’m patiently waiting for someone to plownibto me. On three cameras.
I’ll take every last penny you have.

excessive speeding needs harsher penalties.
I think drawing and quartering is acceptable. Maybe public racking.
the iron maiden seams fitting.

Apple Maps introducing speed camera support was one of the greatest upgrades the app got.

It requires multiple reports? Hm. I get it for quality control, but in rural areas that may not happen.
Using Waze, some users hit the police report when they see a cop traveling in either direction which provides bogus location info. Multiple required reports will hopefully minimize these stupid distracting incidents.

Last year even though people spent less time driving, traffic deaths increased. Speeding was the number one reason. Do some basic research before leaving comments.
Seems that most accidents happen during lane changes (according to dash cam videos) when drivers are trying to get around people that don’t keep up with the rest of traffic.

65 vs 80 damage barely different?

You need to study Ek=1/2*m*v**2 as it says that kinetic energy increases based on the square of velocity. All other things held equal, speed plays the most significant part in crash damage, all other things not held equal it still does.
Very true, but speed doesn’t cause accidents. Irresponsible drivers hitting stuff causes accidents.

No it's not. Your car might have AWD, lane assistance, auto braking, night vision and whatnot - you still need to abide by the laws of physics and the human reaction time hasn't improved by a millisecond since the 1960's.

I live in a somewhat rural area. The rate of speed tourists from the city think is appropriate tells me they've never seen a moose.

So says the Man from Sweden. 😀

Easily the 14.5 feature I was looking forward to most. Then I tried it on my way home from work today and NOTHING! This doesn’t appear for me when I’m navigating, route activated or not. WTF?! Am I doing something wrong? I am in the US, so it shouldn’t be that.

Edit: The functionality appeared in my drive to work this morning. Not sure what changed, but I was actually able to report 2 hazards and 1 speed check. Interesting part of that was I was not alerted, so I guess nobody else reported to that point, or it was waiting for the multiple confirmation. Hopefully these alerts start appearing for those that aren't aware of the functionality so they start to use it. I think it was a big miss for Apple to not make it more apparent that this exists. Why hide it?

In iOS 14.5 and later, Apple has added a Waze-like feature to its native Maps app that lets you report accidents, hazards, and speed checks along your route when getting directions. Keep reading to learn how it works.

Driving on public roads can throw up all sorts of hazards, but if you're given prior warning then you can be better prepared to deal with them. Apple recognizes this, which is why it allows you to report incidents in Maps for the benefit of other users. If you see something dangerous on your route that you want to warn others about, you can do so by following the steps below.

Note that the Report feature described here is also available through CarPlay, which should make it easier to report an incident when you're driving, when ideally you shouldn't be interacting with your phone.

How to Report Speed Checks and Traffic Incidents in Apple Maps

  1. In Apple's Maps app, enter an address in the input field and select a route.
  2. Choose Go and start your journey.
If you come across a hazard, accident, or speed check, bring up the options card by tapping the chevron icon in the bottom-left corner of the screen.
Tap the Report button in the menu card, then tap Accident, Hazard, or Speed Check. Alternately, say "Hey ‌Siri‌, there's an [accident/hazard/speed check]" and ‌Siri‌ will send in a report to ‌Apple Maps.

Reporting an incident flags the location with Apple, so it shouldn't be used except in a valid situation. If enough people file similar reports in the same location, Apple will use anonymized crowdsourcing to flag the incident site on the map.

I’ve been able to successfully submit Accidents, Hazards and Speed Check without having a destination or route set.
