I don’t mind paying for it. I already subscribe to YouTube premium. However if they get rid of it even from premium users it’s a a joke. 4K has already turned out to be a big disappointment. They should update the article to indicate that request desktop site works, however won’t be long before Google probably disables that somehow. If they update this app for pip it may compel me to subscribe.
You can still do it. Pull up the YouTube video in safari. Go full screen, then swipe up to go home. The video will go into PIP and continue to play.
At the time I posted this we didn’t know it differentiates between premium and non-premium. I’m the one that discovered this distinction and posted it a few posts down from my first one. This is what has stopped working for non-Premium users.
Yeah you can play YouTube vids on iOS from Safari... For example go to duck duck go search the YouTube vid. Play the YouTube vid on duck duck go. Go full screen and then hit the pip button. On iOS?
Oh they care very much about money. They just don’t want any porn on their website. If YouTube cared about money they wouldn't be demonetizing and deplatforming people the way they have over the past 5 years. This "glitch" is just a flex.

Can you blame them?
As much as I hate YouTube ads and the fact they just blocked PiP, I still think that if Apple did a similar move, most people here would be defending Apple.
It’s YouTube’s way of convincing people to pay for their service. You don’t like it? Pay for it. Don’t wanna pay? Don’t feel entitled.
Doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried chrome, safari, Firefox, Aloha and tried it on all these browsers on desktop mode too. They should update the article to indicate that request desktop site works, however won’t be long before Google probably disables that somehow. Fair enough. I started paying for Premium. Got fed up with the ads and I DO watch a lot of YouTube. Worth the price.
EDIT: I think YouTube removed this feature to get more people to sign up to Premium.
Depends on your definition of porn 🙂Not that I agree with that other guy that they don't care about money but their demonetizing and deplatforming goes way beyond porn.
Because I don’t want adverts on my videos and I can get the family plan and share the ghastly YouTube music with my husband who uses an android phone. Tried sharing Apple Music on the family plan and could never get it to work.As an iPad user I just slide over YouTube app and PiP no problem. I just can’t move windows around freely. As for background playback, I close the keyboard folio cover and “bam” background playback. I just need to disable auto lock feature.
Why pay $16/mo to YouTube just to get PiP and background playback?
Sure. Here’s the problem though. PiP doesn’t work in the app at all even when you do pay.As much as I hate YouTube ads and the fact they just blocked PiP, I still think that if Apple did a similar move, most people here would be defending Apple.

Because no ads really is so much more enjoyable.even on Android when I use pip and pop up window it's nice to know my video won't be interruptedAs an iPad user I just slide over YouTube app and PiP no problem. But only if you request desktop version of the site, right? I tested DuckDuckGo and PIP didn’t work for me on the mobile site, just like with Safari.Yeah you can play YouTube vids on iOS from Safari... For example go to duck duck go search the YouTube vid. Exactly. I can’t do adverts. I’ve been subscribed to YouTube premium since it came out in the U.K. A few months after I got it I decided I didn’t want to pay for it anymore. I let the subscription lapse. Then I went to play a video. I was so fed up with the constant interruptions. I re-subscribed before the video ended.Because no ads really is so much more enjoyable.even on Android when I use pip and pop up window it's nice to know my video won't be interrupted
YouTube is maybe my most used app so for £11.99 a month I think it's worth it

It’s really good value for money. I got it for the as free videos, background audio and video downloads. But it had the added bonus of having google play music and YouTube music included. I use that on my google home devices. Excellent value really.
And it only costs me £17.99 for the family plan which my husband uses. I tried the Apple Music family plan but my husband could never get it to work with his galaxy note. It’s a shame that they are shutting down google play music though. I don’t really like YouTube Music. I really like google play music. I’ve been using it since it started. I’ll have to get used to YouTube music though as apparently it’s going away in October. I’ve already transferred all my music over. Hopefully it sticks around like hangouts which I still use lol
The fact that YouTube Premium is $15.99 per month blows my mind. So expensive for so little. I have noticed they’ve been showing more ads, longer ads, and less skippable ads though, which is getting really old.
