You don’t get to DIY it, you can only pull official records. Because of the joke that is America’s healthcare system, this is available to a shockingly small percentage of the population.
Most anyone who's been vaccinated in California has had the necessary paperwork filed with the state, If I understand correctly. California has about 12% of the US population right there. We'll see how other states do...

I'd be surprised if my state (Illinois) gets on board with this. It didn't even jump in on the exposure notifications.

This state is too broke to spend money on this stuff, apparently 😂 Even Wisconsin has exposure notifications. I get an "availability alert" for them in Wisconsin every time I cross the state line.
I agree our state is not in great fiscal shape. That said, I do hope they get on board with us. The sooner there are legit, verifiable ways for people to show that they’ve been vaccinated, the better it is for small businesses and retailers.

I’ve been able to do this in Australia for months… via our Medicare System (ie. universal healthcare… 😉)

However they need to allow a way for it to be read by a NFC reader (and have a QR code) to confirm it’s legitimacy. At the moment it’s simply a ‘card’ with no smart functionality. If someone can fake it by creating an image, that’s a problem.

They also need to educate those require to check them: how they should appear & behave on a users’ device (ie. might have to witness them open the Wallet App to view the card, etc - another reason why I DO NOT want Apple to open NFC up to any old developer).

Thank you! But sadly, the Plus version cannot be added to the Wallet app due to lack of support, so I’m still stuck with the NY app.

Yeah, it's strange that the Plus version can't be added to Wallet when the regular version can. That said, I don't mind just updating the regular pass in my Wallet every six months; that's not a particularly heavy lift.

I wish the California digital vaccine record portal could simply let us download a Wallet pass, or email it to the address associated with the vaccination. They offer it in PDF and PNG format, it would be trivial to also offer it in Wallet pass format. It works fine for boarding passes and the like. Why do we need to go through some app?

It pulls the data from your medical provider. Issue is most people didn't get vaccinated at their own doctor's office.
The list of providers is very limited right now, mine isn't on the list, so this update is useless for me.
Does it work with Epic? I sent my vax records to my doctor and they added to their Epic system. I can now see the vax in Apple Health. Just wondered if it might extend to the pass as well.

How does Apple handle vaccination cards internationally? In Europe, there are now several apps that read and check vaccination certificates and can then be used in everyday life. I'm curious to see whether Apple will also support this important topic outside of the USA.

Apple is probably the only company that could implement something like this worldwide. That's impressive.

The iOS 15.1 beta that was introduced today allows iPhone users to upload their COVID-19 vaccination status to the Health app and then generate a vaccination card in Apple Wallet.

vaccine-card-ios-15-1.jpg

The Apple Wallet vaccination card can be shown to businesses, venues, restaurants, and more that are requiring vaccines for entry.

As outlined in an announcement to developers, verifiable health records are based on the SMART Health Cards specification. California is using SMART Health Cards, so users in California can add their vaccination records to the Wallet app after installing iOS 15.1.

Other states and health organizations that use the SMART Health Cards will be able to use a button to let users know that they can download and store their vaccination information in the Health app and in the Wallet app.

California, Louisiana, New York, Virginia, Hawaii, and some Maryland counties support Smart Health Cards, as do Walmart, Sam's Club, and CVS Health. So those in the specific supported states should be able to look up their information in state databases, but those who were vaccinated through companies like Walmart and CVS will also be able to add their information to the Health and Wallet apps because it's the same system.

Note that some apps like the one used by the NHS in the UK allowed users to add their vaccination records to the Wallet app, but the new solution is a universal standard that will work for all healthcare providers/states that implement it.

Discussion should be limited to the app and implementation, and not politics.

I appreciate this, MR.

Vax Verify, they are having trouble verifying my information.
Had the same problem. I’m dumbfounded they partnered with Experian for this. I ended up requesting the manual document by filling out a form. They sent me like a full dump of every vaccine I’ve ever had. It’s kind of useless to prove your vax status because there is too much info. It takes 30 seconds to even comprehend what is going on and find the COVID shots among everything else.

I scanned the QR code from my CVS app and it added to Health and Wallet without issue. For those in states who don't offer a centralized vaccination record system, who were vaccinated at a pharmacy, you might check if the pharmacy website has a QR code for you to scan in.

The Smart Health Card specification being used for this feature isn't US only. Other countries/non U.S healthcare providers should also be able to implement these features.

I emailed the release form to DPH as well.

There is a website that does it for you, all you need is the QR code of your certificate which you need to upload and it turns it into a wallet card
