In the UK, the NHS app allows you to add your Covid-19 vaccination status to the Apple wallet. Very handy when required
First I’ve heard of this, assume you perhaps mean in England?

The app up here in sunny Scotland doesn’t let you do this, as far as I know.

What about states that aren’t using that system? Do you still need to manually import the digital card or “add to wallet” until it gets incorporated?

For NY, I’m stuck with either downloading an app or a temporary digital card that expires after a few weeks

They've updated the Excelsior Pass so it's good for 6 months, and added Excelsior Pass Plus, which provides additional personal data to verify and does not expire.

Since this is about cards being added to wallet I wanted to ask a question.

If I use the wallet app for my license and let’s say I get pulled over. I have to unlock my phone and hand it over to the police for them to take back to their vehicle with them? I’m assuming that’s the way this would work.

You don't have to unlock the phone, double-tap the on/off button, like with Applepay.

I was able to do this under iOS 14
I got one of those vaxeyes passes months ago, and even before that I just made my own that looks semi legit with a CDC logo, and a simple QR code that leads to a photo of the actual card that I uploaded to my own website.

*laughs in Floridian*

Considering we're like the third most populous state, it's amazing how absolutely behind we are in everything. I'd love to be able to digitally store more things in Wallet, but there doesn't seem to be any hurry here to move forward with it. About all I've managed to add to Wallet are my health and auto insurance cards, and that's only because they're large national companies.

Oh well, maybe we'll get there one day.

it would be nice if the pass had a photo of you in it. Save you searching around for ID when you are asked.
Not enough room on the QR code for an image high resolution enough to be useful (other than "yep, has two eyes, a nose and a mouth, must be them"). And it would generally be a requirement to show a valid government issued photo ID (drivers license, etc), along with the pass - the pass proves that someone with the name "Foo Bar" was vaccinated, and the photo ID proves that "Foo Bar" is you. There are already various practices in effect for validating photo ID.

Glad to see this option, I'll definitely add once it's fully released. What I've done for now is added a pic of my QR code from an app provided by my state and health care provider, then I took a pic of my actual vaccination card and put them both into a Note file. Nice and easy to pull up if/when needed.

It pulls the data from your medical provider. Issue is most people didn't get vaccinated at their own doctor's office.
The list of providers is very limited right now, mine isn't on the list, so this update is useless for me.

Mine had pulled the data from the state after I was vaccinated elsewhere so when I added it to my Clear account they just pulled it from my provider.

The Spanish Government is already issuing a Wallet version of the EU COVID Certificate. I hope that European format will also be compatible because it is already in use across the 27 EU Member States and 15 non-EU countries.View attachment 1838798

I hope they will let US citizens use the US proof to get a vaccine passport as it will make travel a lot easier for someone who gets it in the US but is also an EU resident.

Nice. Here in NY we have our own wallet for various passes. This will make it easier so I don’t have to open my phone.
Now of only my state would rescind the front license plate requirement.

edit*
I see the mods are going to have to work overtime deleting political posts.

I'm in Florida, all we have here is the paper CDC card issued when you get the vaccine. Is there any way to get this verified so that I can add a verified vaccine card to my Wallet app?

It seems ridiculous that this is so inconsistent across the country. Covid is a NATIONAL (hell, world-wide!) problem; why in the heck isn't there a NATIONAL vaccine ID system? The CDC should have provided a site where you can verify your vaccine. This is not difficult stuff, but for some reason the US is just really, really bad at this. :(

Illinois is not a part of this program yet. But there is an online portal where fully vaccinated and educated people can print off their vaccine information.
Vax Verify, they are having trouble verifying my information.

Assumptions are likely wrong. The reports I've heard from the few states where one can use digital licenses already are that the officers are specifically forbidden from handling the phone, you hold it up for them to see the information, scan the QR code, and/or (presumably in the future) use an NFC reader to collect the information, and they never touch it.

If one of them ever says, "I just need to take this back to my car for a moment (because reasons)", the correct answer is, "officer, you can look at it here, but I will not surrender my phone to you." If the conversation continues, the next answers are, "I'm happy to wait here while you call another officer to bring a functioning scanner", and "can I get your name and badge number for my incident report and potential lawsuit?" If I was in a state that had digital drivers licenses and I was contemplating carrying one without my physical drivers license as a backup, I'd read the relevant laws very carefully beforehand.

The indications are that with Apple's implementation, you don't need to unlock your phone, and I think you do need to authorize access to the license (and just the license) with TouchID/FaceID.
