No wonder, given Apple's recent controversies (CSAM, workers speaking up about negative conditions).
I’m not sure why finding out about Apple‘s working conditions would stop anyone from hitting the “update” button.
Again, just like the CSAM thing, 99% of the Soccer moms, grandpa‘s, and 12 year old girls Who use the iPhone have no idea what CSAM is, and couldn’t care less about it.
Likewise, I’m going to guess that the majority of those people also don’t know that iOS 15 is out given that Apple isn’t notifying people about it, didn’t bring it up in their Keynote, and unlike iOS 14, there’s not really a big headlining feature like the springboard updates last year. At least not until SharePlay releases later this fall, that’s when Apple will probably begin the major push

Useless features for most people in ios15, why should anyone “update” with a high risk of making the phone slower and buggier and have features removed? (Like no DND with notifications when you are using the phone!!!, no up-next widget, etc.)

Earlier this year, Apple announced that iPhone users who remain on iOS 14 now have the option to continue receiving important security updates, so this change is likely contributing to iOS 15's lower adoption rate seen by Mixpanel so far.
This is a welcome change. One of the things I hated about iOS in the past was how badly Apple tried to inflate their new version adoption numbers by forcing people to update to get security fixes. It got to the point that I started ignoring the risks associated with running an older iOS.

If I had to guess, they’re going to wait a few months before pushing people to iOS 15 automatically.

I truly just wait a few days so the download goes faster.
Nothing worse than a 4 hour download while you're at work and then it randomly restarting just before a conf call.

I'm still on iOS 13.3 on an 11 Pro Max. Apple is moving towards being like Google on privacy only it seems they won't be so upfront about it. I do not think CSAM will be going away and I'd bet money the coding is there. So they'd just need to push an update and viola!

No thank you.

Most users just let their phones update automatically and aren't going to be checking for updates every day. They'll check it once they hear about iOS 15 and want it. Yeah, maybe the banner is hard to miss, but again they'll know about iOS 15 and know it should be there somewhere. I don't think that's a big reason why the adoption rate is low.

I think it could be more to do with there being no "wow factor" or compelling reason to upgrade right away with iOS 15...at least in my opinion. Remember, widgets came out with iOS 14 and a lot of people wanted that as soon as possible. I know I was showing iOS 14 to my non-techy friends and family to see if they knew about it. I don't have anything to talk about or show them this time around.

I have an app I use that has explicitly said it doesn’t currently run well on iOS 15. As such I haven’t updated yet. That said I’ve preordered a new phone so hopefully they fix it soon…

Suddenly immediately after iOS 15 installed on an iPhone 11, three different lightning cables are acting up. Hate focus mode and want regular old do not disturb back. And you're welcome Apple, upgraded to another tier of iCloud storage.
I kind of agree. Was looking forward to the new focuses, but they’re overly complicated. I don’t need or want that kind of granular detail in who or what can disturb me for every given activity. But that said, you can still use the old DND and delete (or just not set up) any of the other focuses.

Honestly I'm not excited about any of the iOS 15 updates (and the changes to DND give me pause), so since my iPhone 12 is running really well on iOS 14 and they are planning to continue rolling out security updates for iOS 14 I'm not really planning to upgrade. That and every new generation of iOS seems to come with a significant hit to battery life for older devices.

Has anyone read all the new Terms and Conditions that are required with the 15 update? I did....maybe that has something to do with the new "non-traditional" update. Security has always been important to Apple but the language in the T&C's has changed. Some of the new features certainly provide points of debate for security. Interested in lawyers comments...The Vaccine ID in 15.1....why not in 15?

Apple released iOS 15 on Monday, and in the time since, the software update has reportedly seen lower adoption than iOS 14 following its launch last year.

According to analytics company Mixpanel, around 8.5% of users installed iOS 15 as of Wednesday at 12:00 a.m. Eastern Time, compared to around 14.5% for iOS 14 as of midnight on the second day after that software update was released.

Mixpanel measures iOS adoption based on visits to websites and apps that use its mobile analytics SDKs, so the data is not official. Apple has yet to share iOS 15 adoption stats, having last reported an 85% adoption rate for iOS 14 back in June.

Earlier this year, Apple announced that iPhone users who remain on iOS 14 now have the option to continue receiving important security updates, so this change is likely contributing to iOS 15's lower adoption rate seen by Mixpanel so far.

We don’t want their CCP backdoored stuff!! Did you guys see the new Surface Pro 8??

iPadOS is terrible, IMHO. I installed it and after running it for a day or so, downgraded back to 14.8. I liked very little about 15 for iPad. The home screen is terrible, Safari looks terrible and there's more. I am much happier ith 14.8 on my iPad. On my iPhone, 15 is OK. I actually like the URL bar at the bottom of the screen. I had to re-add all my shortcuts to my stack on my home screen cause they didn't work at all in the stack after the upgrade. I will stay with 15 on iPhone and 14.8 on iPad.

I'm going to wait and stay on 14.8 for awhile. I'll follow the iOS15 sub forum to see issues people are having and how Apple responds to them. I stayed on 12.4.1 all the way through iOS13 and only updated to iOS14 because I was interested in some of the new features offered and I bought a S6 watch so I needed to update.

iOS 15 is nothing to get excited about. New features so far are not much more useful than before
Think before you upgrade

Normally I upgrade but I’m getting a new iPhone 13 and decided I couldn’t be bothered to mess around when I’m just going to factory reset this phone in the next week anyway.

This is the first time they are allowing users to stay on an older iOS version...

They kept supporting iOS 12 for devices that cannot be upgraded to iOS 13/iPadOS 13 but for devices that can upgrade to iOS 13/iPadOS 13 they cannot downgrade [once the iOS 12 update is no longer signed] and remain on the new iOS 12 releases... I think iOS 12.4.1 was the last version for those devices then iOS 13/iPadOS 13 for them afterwards...

This time, I think, users have the option to downgrade to iOS 14.8 which is the latest signed version for iOS 14 as of this time... I'm not sure if we will get iOS 14.9 or it will remain on iOS 14.8.x

Yeah spying and “don’t upgrade yet” employer managed device policies (because they are lazy and haven’t tested internal apps yet).

Not liking the address bar at the bottom of safari, all it tells me is that people don’t care to learn the vast features of iOS by not enabling the reach function 😒 lazy MFr’s
