Is anyone having issues with USB drives connecting to an iPad?

I have an iPad Mini 6th gen running iPadOS 16.1 and it will not recognize an external USB drive that used to work fine with it. It is connected via USB-C with a cable that works fine for my laptop. The drive is formatted exfat.

The laptop sees the drive fine, but the iPad won't see it anymore...

As of this morning, my iPad Pro (2018) on this latest beta is no longer charging when connected to my Mac mini. I'm using the same Apple Branded USB-C cable I've been using, and even tried another cable. If I can find the power supply I'll try just plugging it in, but so far a reboot hasn't helped.

I'm also still unable to get my iPhone 14 Pro Max to finish syncing my Library in the Music App. I've tried restoring my phone from a backup (FIVE TIMES NOW), and even setting it up as new. I've tried turning off syncing my Music Library, waiting a couple hours, turning back on.. I've even tried turning off sync and deleting the Music App and waiting until Morning to reinstall and try again. No Change. I Filed FB11541646 for this...

I haven't used the phone in CarPlay yet to see this reported issue, but this morning my Maps app in CarPlay was stuttering and like jumping back/forth by just enough to make it seem like it was having the Camera issue lol

What a mess....

That’s rough buddy, sorry to hear that.

Have you tried logging out of the music app/iTunes app?

This sorted a syncing issue out for me when I used it.

I think it might be helpful to have a separate iPadOS 16.1 beta thread. I've been reading through here trying to sift between iPhone issues and iPad issues. My iPhone 13 Pro Max is running great on 16 and I'm not terribly interested in the iOS 16.1 beta, but having used the iPadOS 16.1 beta and having my MKB trackpad fail (reverting to iPadOS 15 fixed it), I'm really looking for feedback on the iPadOS 16.1 beta. Since the Stage Manager and external monitor support isn't available for an iPhone at all, it seems to make sense to have separate OS beta threads.

I just tried restoring to Yesterday's Beta and setting it up as new. No Change.

This is my SIXTH restore since Friday, tried anything & everything I can think of. I even turned the Sync option off and deleted the Music App last night and then waited until this morning to reinstall and try again, thinking maybe there was some indexing or something still happening. Nope.I'm even more nervous to go to an Apple Store because I know they're just going to set it up as new and try it, only to see it's still not working right. I'd have to bring my iPad Pro & my Daughter's iPad mini to prove it to 'em.

Give logging out a go.

iPadOS 16.1 Beta 9 has fixed the Clock app Timer breaking in Notification Center after locking the iPad. 👍

I've already tried just signing in after a clean install. Setup as new and skip all the setup stuff. Reboot, then sign in. Still only loads the same amount of my Library, which is accurate as of about 2 weeks ago or so. Nothing I've added since that point or even now, shows up on the iPhone 14 Pro Max. Other iDevices and Macs are totally fine.

I've been referencing this post with the Feedback I've filed, but I'm afraid to go to a Genius Bar. From my experiences, the folks there tend to not be as helpful as I'd hope. And replacing the phone means waiting roughly 6 weeks, and I'm not sure if they'd just flat out take the "old" one and tell me to wait? All of this is just ridiculous. Still doesn't top the list of all time "bad Apple issues" though. And everything else is working totally fine on the phone. I just can't download any music or add anything to my library. I'm stuck streaming everything, and as far as I know it's still potentially downloading ... something (?) in the background as it still continues to say it's syncing my Library pretty much non-stop.

With devices that are running a beta, they typically won't take any action as far as swapping out hardware or doing extensive trouble shooting. They will ask you to revert to the last public release. If it is still exhibiting the unexpected behavior, then they will do more troubleshooting with a potential replacement.

Not to be rude, because this comes from all of my frustrations these last few days, but duh. And I wouldn't have jumped onto either of the recent betas if things had worked correctly on iOS 16.0.1

More time wasted for someone else to say "huh, that's weird..."
I'm done right now.

iPad Pro 11 2020
No issues with USB other than it says "NO NAME" in Files even though the drive(s) do have a name(s).

I agree wholeheartedly with this.

Up until today I was keeping Messages in the cloud forever until I noticed they were taking up 16 GB of space. I reduced it to one year and checked but they’re still taking 16 GB of space. Ideas?

I’d give it a day and see if the “counter” updates. Also, isn’t there some sort of quasi-trash where you can recover any messages you deleted in error for 30 days? If so, it may show the 16GB until that time runs out.

EDIT: Found a reference to this. https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/re...gate,days remaining before automatic deletion.)

It appears you can accelerate the deletion from the Deleted Messages tab in Messages.

Either way they are not doing it idly. They don’t send out messages to everyone who posts feedback. And it says that they think they got it fixed and need you to confirm that it worked.
Agreed. I have submitted probably a dozen bug reports in the last year or two. I’ve only been asked about two.

BTW, one was fixed by then, the other hadn’t been, but was fixed in the next release.
