Yeah I think they still need to fine tune AOD, no point in designing something to save battery and actually drain more.

Great I ditch my black noir background then 🥹

That’s insane bat. But then it is the size of a surf board

My thinking on the battery drain of the AOD is: that what’s the battery is for. Using the phone in any way is a drain on the battery, by definition. So, unless a feature unreasonably or excessively drains the battery, I accept it.

In this particular case, I view the utility of the AOD as being well worth the additional battery drain it may cause. I usually have my phone off a charger (other than brief snatches on my car Qi charger for 10-15 minute drives) from roughly 6am to 10pm each day. I have roughly 30% remaining at the end of the day and I’m perfectly content with that.

There are no prizes for leftover charge on your battery at the end of the day. Use it all and enjoy the phone rather than let it be a source of unnecessary anxiety.

I would also LOVE to know this. Have any worked yet? Do you need to activate in Apple TV? Doesn’t it work without that? Any insight appreciated

From what I can tell, they turned that off when beta 3 dropped. I can certainly not find any way to invoke it.

And I overslept this morning because my automation to play the radio at 7:20 simply didn't occur. It worked yesterday. And it works when I use "Test This Automation." So it's just the "automation" part that doesn't work in Automatons. Swell.

Oddly, my wakeup triggered automation DID run today, for the first time in several weeks.

Something’s up at Shortcuts HQ!

Yeah no totally behind that.

When I say save battery, in my head I mean, so there’s more of it for other tasks. Do a nip and a tuck here and there, means extra juice for other features longevity.

I agree if this drains the battery, the AOD is worth it. My problem is I don’t think that’s the real corrupt. I think there is something in iOS 16 that is causing the issue, but of course AOD will drain the battery some. It just can’t explain all the battery issues.

For the last two weeks or so my iPhone 14 has not sync'd any photos to iCloud.

My setup:
  • Other devices, iPhone 13 Pro and iPad Mini 6 are also not syncing
  • The last time my phone sync'd to iCloud was 9/27
What I've done so far:
  • Turn iCloud photo syncing off and on
  • Paused syncing and restarted syncing
  • Turned off and on Cellular Data
  • Signed out of iCloud / phone and signed back in
  • Reset network connections, then signed back in to my WiFi
  • Turn off phone and turned back on
  • Checked storage - I used 1.1TB of 2TB
  • Checked Apple's online services and Cloud Backup, etc. is all operational/online
Anything else I can do?

Question: Do your devices create backup files on iCloud daily?

You have done it all what I would have recommended and then some. I believe the only thing left now is to contact Apple Support and have them check your iCloud account at their end.

You’ve done everything I’d do. But then also you’re on a beta so your phone is likely to behave unpredictably.

Apart from a restore using the IPSW file of the beta your on… I’d sit tight and hope it sorts itself out on official release.

Just check though you don’t have any very large videos files stuck uploading.

Thanks Axel. Yeah I think that will be my last option. They might say, oh you're on beta, pffff lol.

Thanks Pearsey, we'll see how long I can hold out until the official release. Nothing stuck uploading as far as I can tell...

1. Disable iCloud Photos on all devices.
2. Change your iCloud password and be sure to sign out of all devices in the end.
3. Restart your devices and sign back in one device at a time starting with your iPhone.
4. Take a couple pictures on your iPhone.
5. Enable iCloud Photos on the device and see if it starts syncing.

Keep us posted.

So I am more impressed with the Stage Manager stability in this released than previously. I worked from a coffee bar this afternoon, using my M1 iPad Pro and my 2019 16” MBP using Universal Control. For my last meeting, I decided to put away my MacBook and take the meeting using Teams on my iPad. I had Teams, Outlook, Slack, and Jira open during the meeting, and could switch between them freely without my webcam shutting off. When a text message came in, I dragged the notification down to the workspace and it opened Messages, all while my webcam was running. It did close out Slack, since there’s a limit to 4 apps in a workspace, but it was the app that I hadn’t used the longest.

I did have ONE respring, but I never lost my call audio, and when I reopened Teams all the info was still there.

All in all, that’s an improvement over how it behaved previously. It was a pretty great multitasking experience for an iPad.

Well I tried the steps above and so far it seems stuck syncing photos from the Shared Library. There is only a pause link. Click it only changes from pause to resume. Maybe the sync only happens at night? Guess I'll be calling Apple Support next week. Thank you! Had hope for this troubleshoot tip.

Plug in your iPhone to charger and leave it locked for a few mins and check back again.

Yup it's been plugged in and I've been eyeing the sync status every so often. I also allowed my iPhone to go through my firewall without any interaction from my VPN or any other rules. Will see how this goes. Thank you!

It’s either your network or one of your firewall/VPN apps that’s blocking the connection as I mentioned in the DM. Unlikely it’s a beta issue.

Don’t guys with 14pm find it hard to interract with the DI up top? Given the size of the phone?
