It was a test of the security update feature (as part of beta testing), not an actual security update.
This strangely makes me feel better. I have become insane about the new trend of apple having stupid bugs and not finding them until users are being effected. See the new Apple TV for example. Or the iPhone 14 pro/pro max.

True but I think users finding bugs, in a beta release, is acceptable 😁

No worries and thanks for checking. My frustration is with Apple, not you. I'm on the beta now so no need to check unless you're also curious.
Alarm went off this morning and the Lock Screen widget showed my next alarm as off, which it isn't. Still broken.

Yeah but then you miss out on releases like yesterday.

Not digging anyone out, just wondering 👍🏼

And I’ve always been a bit to paranoid about installing betas via IPSW without the dev beta profile in. Quite cheeky the phone let’s you really.
I have often wondered why Apple didn't make it a little tougher to install a beta IPSW. Would cut down on the unauthorized IPSW download sites.

As far as the test yesterday, shouldn't that have simply been built into the code of B3? then a server-side push could make it available to anyone running a high enough build? (Just my opinion.) But I see your point. I have actually been toying with pulling the profile back down from the Dev portal and installing it in case I am away somewhere w/o my MBP and something is released.

So after almost 2 days with beta 3 out, the swipe to home stutter bug is really gone for those who had it?

(I have been annoyed so much by it on my 14 pro max since day 1. Can’t believe it’s finally fixed.) Might install the beta just for that lol.

In general how is iOS 16 on ipad? Is it safe to update to it right now or hold off? I'm on 15.7.1 right now.

Mail - push

With this beta I am seeing an issue with Mail updates for push accounts.
When I interact with an email on any one of several devices, both the iPhone and iPad do not update the status of the email nor the associated badge. Updates just fine on my MB, my Android, my PCs, etc...
The only account that properly updates is iCloud Mail.
Note: I do not use fetch accounts with the Apple Mail app.

Reported via Feedback.

Same here. Some emails won’t load even though data is on.

I use iMazing for wireless backups to my Mac, and since iOS 16 the passcode is always required. Per iMazing it's part of new security in iOS 16.
Love iMazing. Literally saved me hours - or days - when the Cigna app faulted (could not be removed nor installed).
Was not backup at the time but now that’s what I use.
