My 16.5 journey... from 🤯 to 🥳

Tap to wake was awful on 16.5 b1 and some Settings where changed on the last IPSW file update.
So I reinstalled the iOS, reinstalled a couple of apps because Maps was laggy opening, still no change.

Downgraded the normal Finder options button tethered IPSW file way, but phone errored mid process and a restore was the only way out. Restored back to 16.4 from an Archived back up.

Everything was back to normal... until, Public beta came out and I got a red badge 🔴 😅

So I thought, screw it, easy enough to restore back again, so I installed 16.5 Public beta, OTA, 😳 yes I know shock horror, what drugs was Pearsey on last night, and...

...Everything is just peachy. Tap to wake is super responsive and in the process Settings weren't changed. Feels really great on my ip14P

So... maybe Public builds are slightly different to Developer builds 🤷🏽, even though they hold the same build number, or just the restore fixed something with an already lovely running phone on 16.4... moral of the story is, betas are tricky sometimes, things don't always go your way, so you just gotta get proactive with it and try things out and always, always, have a back up from any build but even more so from the last official to jump back to - I didn't need to wait for iOS 16.5 beta 2, as some might of thought, put it that way. Peace 👊🏼
on my iphone 13 Pro, both the public and developer beta weigh exactly the same. the only thing that changes is the text that shows the update, so I bet that the restoration has helped in your case

The weather animations sometimes work even with reduced motion turned on but not always. I wish this was actually always the case. I only have reduced motion turned on because I literally CANNOT deal with those constant fade out / fade in effect when switching between apps

Is there a way that... the point of difference in the Dev build is just more of a wild card, with things not so buttoned up, like they would do for the public build maybe?

I'm not a developer, just a designer end user, so can only see the details in what I experience, so not fully behind the iOS coded curtain. Would lose ends of settings or how the final iOS beta gets packaged be any different maybe?

Pure speculation in what I'm saying of course, but as always behind it all a thirst for knowledge about my hobby.

There are times when my install would change settings and/or things just didn’t work right.
For those a complete wipe > reinstall > update would provide decent results.
Crazy odd stuff.

really tempted to update as my phone has never been off a beta for years, but battery is insane for me on 16.4 so I’m reluctant to update.. also I don’t see any of the bugs that people mention so

This is one of those times where I’d say stick with the release version. There’s nothing compelling, feature-wise, in this beta and if you like where you’re at, stay there until this one is released (probably late April-ish).

Has anyone experienced weird glitches with an iPad Pro Magic Trackpad (the 2019 keyboard with the Trackpad, not the new one that came out last year). Mine jumps the cursor around the screen, stops registering frequently (meaning I type but there’s no input on the screen) until I disconnect it, and type something on the onscreen keyboard).

Not sure if this is an OS issue or a physical problem with the keyboard itself. I was hoping to hold off replacing it in the hope that an iPad Pro version of the newer keyboard would be available soon. But it’s getting pretty bad.

Silly question so pardon me, but you’ve tried cleaning contacts/removing all other peripherals (incl. Pencil) and cables from iPad?

…Or Resetting All Settings if it comes to that, perhaps?

Yeah it’s annoying I wish Reduced Motion would keep them disabled

Not silly questions at all. I have cleaned the contacts, both on the keyboard and on the iPad. I've never tried removing the Pencil. Will give that a shot. No cables or other peripherals are attached. And 😬 to resetting all settings. But I'll do that before I go out and buy a new frickin' $300 keyboard...

(Thanks!)

I have the same keyboard for my old 2018 iPad Pro 12", but have not noticed any similar glitches. I'll double check tonight when I get home.

My iPhone XS reverted the modem down from 5.02.02 to 5.02.01 after updating to iOS 16.5 public beta 1

That happens on the first beta of a new point release because they fork the code for the new beta before the existing point release is released to the public. So the 16.5 b 1 code has stuff that was current, say, 2-4 weeks ago. Hence the older modem firmware

The weather app sometimes fails to download weather data and shows nothing on the weather widget. Also my AirPods Pro 1. Gen has connected to the iPhone while they were in the case with closed lid. I remember reporting it back in Feb and the case is still open. Other then that I haven’t experienced anything concerning. Pretty good release for beta1. I just wish they could tune it to the way the 16.4 beta2, my 12 pro max was blazing fast with that one. Not saying that current release is slow, but nothing like 14.2 beta 2

I’m on 16.4 and the weather app is not working randomly. So i suppose it’s not a bug it’s a system problem
