As brinkeguthrie said.. the update did nothing for my iPhone Pro Max 11. I have tried almost every workaround that there is on the apple forums and apple sites, none seem to work!

16.0.2 didn’t fix it on my 14PM but as others noted just tap cancel and you’re done with it. No need to enter anything.

Yeah, you're right. 16.0.2 didn't fix it. It was fine for 2 reboots and now my iPhone asks me for the password again.

Thought it was my imagination but you’re right, it didn’t pop up the last time I rebooted but did this time. Anyway cancel gets rid of it.

By the way, I've lost all my cloud files from Readdle Documents app after the update. I don't know whose fault is that, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's Apple's...

what does "DFU" mean? you mean it just overwrites the current install? Why would this fix it? And how do you do this via 'iTunes?'

A normal restore via iTunes would probably fix it, but if you're going to the lengths of doing that, you may as well do a DFU restore. There are guides on the button sequence to place your device in DFU mode. See here

It's the deepest restore mode possible. AKA a complete nuke. You can then restore from an iCloud backup. I would avoid device to device transfer or an iTunes restore. They seem to bring a lot of junk across to the freshly restored device.

and as the password request is intermittent, although it seems to be just after waking or powering up from cold state, how do you know this fixes it? I have OKTA on my phone for 2FA and wouldn't want to lose it.

I don't know for sure, but when I upgraded my phone OTA, I had this problem every restart. After a fresh install, I've not seen the pop up once.

I personally don't think it would be worth a full restore if this is the only issue you're having. A fresh install usually fixes weird bugs like this though

Just for you to take into consideration: I haven’t had this issue until I restored my phone with a clean install from my Mac…
